OPA!!! Nothing like runny flaming cheese to bring tears to my eyes...

Ford field replaced Tiger Stadium, right?

OK, Korger for hot dogs, and don't THEY carry Sanders, too? Too bad about Farmer Jacks- "I"ll Stand on My Head to Please You!"

We don't have White Castle (whitey Bities) here in Georgia (except in the freezer section at the grocery store) but we have Krystals which are similar. We also used to get them at a little white diner on West Road in Trenton, I think it was called Jimmy's or something, and Top Hat on Fort Street had them, too.

I'm still in Oakland county, barely, but from here north they do Flint coneys. It is NOT a coney. They're disgusting! I worked at a kerby's as a teen and they, along with Lafayette and American Coney Island are all owned by the same family and use the same ingredients. YUMMY!!!!

My dad used to stop at the top hat on Fort when we'd go to my grandparents.

Comerica park is Tiger Stadium. I actually like that! The views of the city from the field are amazing! Ford Field is the Lions turf now. The silver dome is... I forget.. someone just bought it though.
*half watching Hilary speak*

I was just down in Dearbon last week for my DH's work. We had dinner at Fairlane Manor and did Greenfield Village for the day. I miss being down there all the time. My dad worked for Ford, but he also did RC boats in their pond over on test track property so we were down there all the time.

It's been a blast talking with you guys, but I have to go to bed now...with visions of fudge, ginger beer, coney dogs dancing in my head. Thanks for the memories, I will check in and bring this back up tomorrow!

g'nite y'all!!

trip for coneys sounds better. Lets try to forget we're all getting older and well.... nevermind.

OK, one last post before beddy bye..My wedding reception was at Fairlane Manor, and I used to LOVE, LOVE LOVE Greenfield village. That is going on my list of something I want to take the boys to when we go back. I doubt my DH will want to do it, but I am going to try. As a teenager, my friends and I would go at Christmas time and run around in the snow while we walked to all the buildings. I actually got to spend the night in the Henry Ford Museum when I was in Girl Scouts, they used to have a dormitory type room with a bunch of bunk beds and shower/bathroom areas. I don't know if that was it's purpose or why they had those accomodations. Very cool...Night in the Museum!

My dad worked for Ford, too. He retired from the Rouge Plant about 18 years ago.

My grandpa was the head of the powerplant at Rouge! I can't remember when my Grandpa retired but it had to be around the same time period as your dad. He almost always worked nights.

My dad worked at the NAOO building, which is gone. It was the short building next to the village. He was in charge of powertrain /scheduling for north america. He took early retirement about 6 years ago.

I found out the day after our dinner and tour of the Ford Estate that my grandpa actually would go into the power plant there every two weeks as part of his job. He had to make sure everything was working correctly. I wish I would have known this the night I had the tour!

ummm yes, I am #1hockeymom and I drive a Ford! My Freestyle got to visit its friends on Friday and Saturday. I live up in GM country and my car misses its cousins! :)

We leave in 7 hours for our trip back to MI. It has been two years since our last visit and four years since we transferred out of MI, having spent our whole lives there.

On this visit, we are going to Greenfield Village and taking a Ford Factory Rouge Tour! We are going to spend some time at Cranbrook. We will also spend a day in Ann Arbor and take the kids on a tour of the UM campus. We are probably going to take in a Tiger game but I will not go willingly. I cried when that first bulldozer broke through Tiger Stadium and I still hold a grudge. DH doesn't have any problem with it. Hoping Kwame gets canned while we are visiting! :rotfl:

Welcome Home!

As a kid we went yearly for a field trip to either the museum or village (we switched every year), and we did the original rouge plant tour where you started with the steel being made and ended with the car coming off the line. I haven't done the new tour and my kids haven't seen any tour.

For my teaching degree I had to teach a science class at Cranbrook once a week for a few months. There is a lot to do there! I believe the Science Center in Detroit has all been redone, too.

I think you could hear the cheering in the burbs all the way to Manoogian mansion the day he got sent to jail! Now we just need to get him out of office!

Yes, travel bug, it is a LARGE jar and plenty for all. colesmom is bringing the Vernor's and Stroh's..we need someone to bring the Faygo..can you do that?
You got it! I'll bring Faygo. Since someone else is bringing the Rock 'n Rye, I'll bring the classic Faygo root beer. Remember the Faygo song?

"Remember when you were a kid?
A part of you still is.
That's why we drink Faygo." :thumbsup2

Hey, even though it's out of season, maybe I can track down some Paczki's (pronounced "poonch keys" for those not familiar with them) straight from Hamtramck. Gee, only 800 calories and 35 grams of fat in each one. But who's counting? ;)

I can cover the Mackinac fudge as I now live up here.

hockeymom-Estee Lauder on-line, nope don't like Macy's as well.

Stroh is now owned by Miller

Can someone send me a real coney Please?

I'll do ya one better...remember they did this song for their commercial with the guy with the big mustache on the BobLo boat.

Comic books and rubber bands
Climb into the tree top
Falling down and holding hands
Tricycles and Redpop
Pony rides and Sunday nights
Roller skates and snowball fights
Climbin' through the window
Remember when you were a kid?
Well, part of you still is
And that's why we make Faygo

There's more, and I had to google some of it...but I will always remember that guy on the Boblo boat.

don't forget the RedPop!

#1HM, my dad was a tool and die maker, so he would have been towards the beginning of your tour!

Bring on the Paczkis!! I never knew how to spell it, and I don't think I have ever had a real Polish one!!

LisaR have a great trip, and when you go to Cranbrook, look down Lahser and wave to my in-laws! The live near Maple off Lahser!

I have heard of all the problems with the mayor..is that who got arrested? and he is still in office? Only in Detroit...Murder City..

Coleman Young was in office when I left.

OK, what is the scoop with John Kelly, Marilyn Turner (the gasping weather girl when I was younger), and Bill Bonds? Need to know this stuff...

Oh, a trip down yummy Sanders Memory Lane. I didn't know if they were still around or not. I taught in Detroit 1965-1967, fell in love with Sanders hot fudge. Wow, I haven't heard of it in years. Come to think of it, I now has a cousin who lives in Detroit,,,time for a call for a care package ! Thanks for reminding me of my past !
