MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Morning Kate and Kathy! Im up too...trying to shake off the blues and get myself motivated for the day!

Kate - great news that your niece is doing better...OH the POWER of PRAYER!! Believe me, whether Nell likes it or not she is getting all my YUKKY teas for Christmas!! LOL, in a nice little basket too!

Kathy - Mentalpause? I LOVE THAT!! Im taking that thought to work with me today to share with some of the co-workers who will think thats a riot. They are almost as easily amused as we are here!

Lisa - hope you are feeling better when you wake up...my blood sugar is way high this morning...I just do not think that carbs of any kind agree with me...dont want to go back on meds at night, so not sure what to do about it at all.

No difference so far in 3 days gluten free...pretty sure that is not my problem, but will stick it out through the end of the week anyway...Diane said I would notice a difference in a weeks time if I had a sensitivity.

Jocelyn - Various cancers just seem to be the designer disease these days...so sorry about your friend too. Dennis has had chest pain for over a month that moved into his back before they finally diagnosed him...he goes to the doc today to examine a lump in his other side too that they fear may mean that it has spread already to his liver...men are such idiots about going to the doctor, I suspect he has been in pain for longer than he is saying...of course being a member of the gay community he was afraid of Aids, but he and Rick have been together so long I told him that probably wouldnt be the case...this diagnosis has hit us all hard.

Carol - and everybody else that applies...I think it is harder for us to reconcile the slow losses since so many others are reporting dropping sizes and inches fairly quickly...and Diane's glowing desciptions of how the pounds lost will look like twice as much...I just have not seen any of it...I wonder sometimes if I really AM Met B, but I know I am, since I answered yes to almost every single question on the little test thing...and the fact that I usually feel so much better since starting this...I just know that any other diet I tried usually delivered faster and more noticeable losses in the beginning...of course they never lasted, and never produced more than 10-20 pounds of loss before stalling out. so I guess the 1 pound a week thing means that we will eventually reach the goal, its just going to take a lot longer than I had planned. I'm still well over 200 pounds, and just figured that meant I would be in the faster losing group!! No Way though, PONY never does anything normal!! I am always the exception to the rule!!:confused3

Thank you. The official word yesterday was that she is going to make it. She is conscious and communicating which made everyone feel better. My sister said that the doctors and nurses were smiling which was also a really good sign. She continues on dialysis but they are pretty sure her kidneys will start functioning soon.

Hello All, I've been MIA for a couple days, but I've been lurking and reading your posts.

Kater - So glad to hear that your niece is recovering.

I was sooooooooooooo touched by the love and kindness you all share. It's amazing how close you all are, but yet so far away. You hear all the time how people start up romances on the internet and I would think how in the world can you start a relationship over the internet, but I've seen it with my own eyes how wonderful you all are to each other.....I had tears in my eyes when I read what you girls/guy did for Nell. It was awesome. Sometimes when I'm going through I think no one cares or have the time to, but you guys just showed me if you're real with others, they'll be real with you. You all are really a blessing. I know I don't chat as much as the rest, but believe me I'm hear and praying for each and everyone of you.

I'm about to complete my 2 weeks back on step 1 and will be starting step 2 again.....11/23. One thing that seems to be a struggle with me is exercise. I use to get up and go to the gym before I go to work, but I can't seem to motivate myself to do that anymore. I have been going to zumba class twice a week, but I still have to get 3 more days in. Please pray for my strenght. I know that this woe is a God send and I just have to work the plan.

Keep up the good work and know that it is more blessed to give than it is to receive...but you all know that!

Sandra

Morning Kate and Kathy! Im up too...trying to shake off the blues and get myself motivated for the day!

Is it sunny today? Can you get outside for a little while? Sending you :hug:s! I think you need a good dose of Christmas music - turn it up LOUD!

Sandra - it is good to "see" you! It is amazing that we can become such good friends through the internet? I love how close we are and hope that someday we really can meet for that Godiva ride! Why don't you just try adding one more day of exercise for awhile. Can you take a walk in the middle of the day - during your lunch hour? Even a 15 minute walk will get you moving in the right direction.

Kater - I thought about taking a walk around the mall during my lunch break, but again I got to motivate myself some how. Thanks for the suggestion.

Kate - would love to get out in the sun, but it started raining AGAIN yesterday and we are in for another day of rain today...supposed to clear up tomorrow...so I guess I have to get my miner's cap out!! I got my Christmas CD's out yesterday, so its LOUD TSO in the car on my way to work!!

Sandra - hang in there...like Kate said, any additional exercise is a good thing, so try to just get in an extra 10-15 minutes here and there above what you normally do...a quick walk, a little dancing...We love you too and are here for whatever we can do to help!! Just knowing that there is someplace to go when I am feeling down or grumpy, or sad or even happy is such a great thing!!

Hello just wanted to pop in and let ya know I am still here, just gonna be quite busy till Christmas! This season is alway busy for me, I have several gatherings with family and such that it takes a lot of time! I know I am not the only one that stays this busy, just letting you know where I have and will be lol:goodvibes

On the Turkey we usually cook ours in a roaster oven and it does really well we like it that way.

Still confused on the thick n thin thing :rotfl: but I did see something that was to thicken food and not add any flavor to it so that might be the same thing it was thick something not sure of the name though...

Lisa:We share the same day! That is so cool that your birthday is Feb. 10 like mine... I really hope you get to feeling better though, and yes I think also if you aren't feeling better soon I would go get checked!

Nell: It is always a blessing when you have friends like these even if we are all far apart... seems like we are close!

Also on the bread I was talking about just a short note 1 minute microwave bread: 1/4 cup flax mill,1/4 cup ground almonds,1Tbs half-n-half,1TBs oil,1 egg and 1-2 pks splenda mix up and put in glass bowl (lightly sprayed with nonstick spray) put in microwave for 1 min! This is really good and along the same line as the muffin you all are talking about I think....

Anyways the bread is a free food is what Diane said in her e-mail to me I did ask cause wasn't sure if we needed to count it as a 5x5 and she said NO it is FREE!! Wow that was great news and has gotten us through some tuff times on plan when we thought we needed something a little extra!
Well, just a thought of the day:lmao:

Hope everyone has a good MM day and I will check back when I can!Gottta go do some work now, trying to get some Christmas money for the kids!

Thanks Robin, it's so good to know that!

Melanie - That's good to hear! I tried it the other night and loved having some bread with my meal. I had some with my natural pb and it was so filling. Have you tried the 3 min chocolate muffin... it's good too. I had it last night with some whipped cream and slept like a baby..hehe

Sandra

Sandra:
No I haven't is the recipe in this thread? I must have missed it could you give it to me would love to try it! and it is a 5x5 right?

Just a quick post. When I got to work this morning I found that we'd been broken into. Someone tore the handle off the back door  Stole a laptop, some cash and money orders :sad2: I called the police, then the landlord. Told him we need a REAL deadbolt lock on the backdoor, not the crappy bedroom door type he had on before. I'm still checking things out. It feels so creepy knowing someone was here.

Barb - sorry to hear you have to deal with it. It's hard when you feel like your territory has been violated.

......I just heard an ad on the radio for J.C. Pennys. Bring in a pair of previously worn men's slacks and get a pair of their Hagar (sp?) brand men's pants for $19.99. Might be a good way to recycle some of Tom's too-big pants and get a Christmas present for him at the same time? I believe that they said that the details are on the website so you might want to check to make sure I got the details right?????

Melanie:

There was a discussion about the one-minute muffins on the last thread. I think that Kathy found the recipes on Low Carb Friends - actually it is a whole thread with discussions about variations on the recipe. The link to the Low Carb Friends thread was posted. I am going to try to copy it.... If it doesn't work, it was post #1480 on the thread we just finished over here at Disney Forums.

Quick post before I run up tpo the courthouse. Seems the losses we took yesterday at work from the theft was less than our deductible so we're out there :sad2: I spend most of the day on edge. We got a good back door security system in place so I feel a little better.

Kate - I'm so glad your neice has improved.

Lisa - Hope you're better today

Nell - We're so glad we were in your life at the perfect time to help you out

Pony, Carol, Jocelyn and all of you who are not seeing the results you hoped for when you started. I too don't know why this plan works the way it does. I've only lost 2 pounds in the last month (ZAP), my waist is only down a half inch but I'm fillting into clothes I couldn't a few weeks ago :confused: All I know is that I feel better and am more in control of my eating than I have been for years. I'm happy and still hopeful. When you start to doubt, think back to where you were before. Not only were you bigger, but you didn't have these wonderful friends here  Diane says adamently that if you are doing EVERYTHING she advises, this should work. Look hard at what you're doing. If you've been right on, as previously suggested, contact Diane to see what she thinks.

Pony - My birthday is May 25.

I'll catch you all later.

Not only is there alcohol in it (the first thing on the list) but the dextromothorphan (sp?) acts like an opiate when taken in large quantities. So, you get the high as though you took opium.
His PO told him since there is no way for them to do a drug test on him for it, he would arrest him for under aged drinking. I know he has shoplifted it in the past, and not very good at shoplifting (that's how they got him in jail to begin with) and we are hoping that he will shoplift again to get some, and get caught. As soon as his 4 months in prison were up, first thing he did when he got home was go get some of the robitussin. We just found this out from this teacher. She is something else.
Robin, thanks for the idea of the "tough love." That is what got him into the half way house to begin with. We told him we love him, but don't want him at the house. He is more than welcome if he cleans up his act, but not before then. I honestly don't know if a "boot camp" type thing would work for him. He is so intelligent, he knows how far he can push this stuff before it "harms" you. He has come pretty close about 3 times to OD'ing.
Ok, going to read some more posts.

Kathy - sorry you are going through with this. Sometimes being uber-intelligent isn't such a great thing, huh?

I'm not feeling very well today, so I might go rest. I went from being pretty tired to feeling like I was going to faint in the middle of the night when I got up to do the middle of the night routine. Kind of scary. I wonder if my blood sugar or blood pressure is off somehow. Just going to try to get some extra rest today and see what happens. Love you all and prayers for Kate, Kathy and Barb and anyone else with sadness or challenges today.:grouphug:

Lisa, I hope you are feeling better.

Thanks, Kath! Whatever keeps us interested and on plan is really cool - variety is important. That's what always made me bored on Aitkens after a while - not enough variety. We had a pot luck at work today and they had pumpkin cheesecake, cookies, cakes, pastas...I had cheese and Caesar salad then came home for my real lunch. It was easy to pass up the goodies! I can't believe how this is working. My lower stomach still has a pooch, but it doesn't really show in my clothes now. I'm happy to be heading into the holidays in a more positive spirit.:yay: At that early bird special at Macy's yesterday I got a $395 leather jacket for my son and sweaters for each of my men. With the morning sale price and my coupon, I paid $95 for all 3 items! There are some great bargains out there now.

Good job on passing up the goodies, and wow you are Betty Bargain Finder now!

Jocelyn, the teacher I was speaking of used to be his math teacher in junior high. They kept in touch "over the years" and he has done some odd and end jobs for her around her house.

Kathy - that is so not right for a teacher to be involved like that.

I just ground up some more pecans. I used 1/2 cup of pecan halves and it produced 1/2 cup ground up pecans. Weird. Here is the carb count on the back of my pecan bag.

Per 1 ounce:

4 carb grams
3 grams fiber

1 net gram per ounce.

So a 1/4 cup is 2 ounces (there are 8 oz. in 1 cup) and that means there are 2 net carbs per muffin minus any "flavorings" such as cocoa or such. I think cocoa is 2 net carbs per tablespoon, so a chocolate muffin would be 4 net carbs.
Hope it makes sense to you.

I am coming into this way late and haven't read the middle pages, but you can't base a dry liquid's weight on its volume, it must be weighed. The 8 oz in 1 cup is for liquid measure. You might want to weigh your pecans to be sure.

Back to reading.

Hi Guys just checking in!

Came home from Zumba Monday and wasn't feeling good body ached all over.
Tuesday couldn't get out of bed felt like I was hit by a BUS!!
Wednesday felt a little better but by 4:00 in the afternoon started loosing my voice by 7:30 no voice. :scared1:
Woke up this morning and my throat is so sore :sad2:

Needless to say I am :sick::sick::sick:
I hope you guys are doing better than I am!

I went to Jamba Juice and got a coldbuster! It's not on the plan but boy it felt good on the throat.

No Zumba for me for the next 2 days :sad1:

Love you bunches!!!

Robin: You made me cry with your sweet words! Your friend may have a blessing in disguise with the layoff – perhaps it will give him time to focus on his health.

Kate: That’s so cool that you and your daughter have the same birthday! J-P and I are exactly one month apart. Waking up to the news about your niece was the best thing ever! I am so relieved and I hope she continues to improve in leaps and bounds today. That’s great about the pants! I know just the pair to snag! He’s looking so good!

Sandra: It was so good to hear from you! I wonder if you can come up with some ways to move around that are less regimented? Maybe some creative things you enjoy doing? The 7 hours of yard work hauling compost for me this weekend counted for sure and was gratifying, although I was really sore, lol! Seriously though, walking with a friend or even at the mall will count for your exercise.

Melanie: That is amazing we have the same birthday!!! I’ve only met two other people in my life with my birthday. Have fun preparing for the holidays – we understand how busy you can be. I’m trying to get my husband to start this weekend because he’s on call a lot in Dec. this year. We live on a wetlands where everyone on both sides has black wrought iron fences to the nature area. We all sting swags of white lights across our fences. It’s gorgeous. We do luminary bags up our sidewalks on Christmas Eve in our cul-de-sac, too. It’s so magical. We’ve lived here the longest, so I can’t bear for him to be late in putting up the lights, lol!

Barb: That’s so awful about the break in! Are you ever there alone??

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I feel better today after an early night. Tom keeps making sure I’m taking that Vitamin D, lol!

Laura: Have you called the doctor? Do you have a fever? Just asking because you are around so many people, you could have come into contact with H1N1. Don't wait too long to seek medical attention if you aren't better. We love you!!! Get well soon!!!:grouphug:

Kate, I'm so glad to hear that your niece is awake and better. Keep us posted. It sounds like you are feeling better, too? Yesterday was my day for FUNKY feelings so I can sympathize with you. Let us know if you need more :grouphug: That's what we're here for.

Sandra, I struggle with the exercise, too. Even if you can only get 10mins in, it's better that nothing. Try for that and then increase the time and just do the best you can...that's all any of us can do.The best we can. I know that I am my worst enemy and will immobilize myself by trying to bite off the whole thing instead of a little at a time. Hang in there!:cheer2:

Lisa, You sound like you're feeling better. Are you? Thanks for all your suggestions during my melt down yesterday. They were appreciated. I will email Diane and see what she says...I think. My clothes are looser so I keep getting thrown off when I weigh myself about once every 5 wks and see that I've lost a lot less than I thought I had.

Robin, I guess you and I will be on Step 2 a lot longer than everyone else. I bet your fluff will start to budge soon when the exercise really kicks in. Sorry you have rain again today. We here in this part of Calif would like you to send some our way as we haven't had much for several years. See what you can do, Okay?

Kathy, Still sending out good thoughts for Carrie and Michael that all will be resolved in a manner that is helpful for them both. You would have thought you'd died and gone to heaven here also, with all the wonderful cake smells that have been emanating from my daughter's apt downstairs. She makes wedding cakes from scratch, ones that actually taste good. They called and I answered. What more can I say!

Daniele, Am so glad that you had such a wonderful surprise. I hope it takes some of the stress out of your life for awhile. I know that you would do the same for anyone here.

Sorry to hear about all the friends that are battling cancer. My best friend has been dealing with beast cancer for the past year but it looks like it's taken care of for now. Being reminded of our mortality by all these friends' illnesses sure does help me to treasure the days that I have been given.

On that note, wishing the best for you all today,
Carol
Step 2- don't know if I should go back to step 1 after these past 2 days

Feast upon the Words of Christ

It was the first day after their original anniversary that the pass was open on the weekend to get married in Tahoe. They still celebrate on their original date and don't minus the 'missing' years. We just had their 50th this year and Dad bought her a huge diamond - her first:) She wore a gold band all those years. Now she has two rings. Dad was so cute when he brought the ring over for me to see and fused all over the wrapping and everything. It was very sweet. He had the Wing Beneath My Wings played for her at the restaurant the night they got married again.:flower3:

Lisa - what a sweet story.

I don't know what to say to you guys (girls). I got your present a short while ago. I can't stop crying. I don't know whether to hug you or yell a you. :grouphug:

Nell - just know we love you and wanted to help.

I was trying to figure out how to pick up my medicine and buy food for the week with 40 dollars. I can't talk or think. Just thank you all so much. There was sleeping socks too. I can't even believe all of you. I think that your all angels in MM bodies.

Nobody should ever have to choose between food and health. Was Marti able to get her Dr. appt. rescheduled? If she is unable to work due to her knees, you should look into getting SSI (Disability) for her. I suggest using an attorney. The SSI people will deny you outright the first time (they always do that), but when an attyorney is involved it seems to get resolved faster.

Robin, You asked if there was something you missed on me blowing Step 2. I have been weak willed the past 2 days. I told you guys that my daughter was making a wedding cake for a reception on Friday...well, yesterday as she was cutting and leveling off the carrot cake ( she makes a FABULOUS cake) I started eating the shaved off pieces. Today I told myself that I would count that as a slip and do well until possibly a little slip for some more cake at the reception. So, I went to swim and then stopped at the doctor's office to weigh myself as it's been about 5 wks since I last weighed and have felt like I have lost a lot since then. 4 lbs. A measly 4 pounds. I was bummed. So I came home and ate some more of the cake that she had cut off...white cake this time and very yummy. Then I had four squares of dark chocolate this afternoon ( 3 is legal 11-20) and now I feel like crying and screaming and running away from home. Actually just running away from myself. I need a swift kick to get me back up in the saddle (don't think any of your ponies could hold me, Robin. Would have to be a horse with a very strong back). Sorry, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it....unfortunately.

Carol - sorry you had a slip - but that's all it is, a slip. Regroup, stay away from the baking area and remember that cake won't taste as good as being healthy feels!

Thank you. The official word yesterday was that she is going to make it. She is conscious and communicating which made everyone feel better. My sister said that the doctors and nurses were smiling which was also a really good sign. She continues on dialysis but they are pretty sure her kidneys will start functioning soon.

Kate - so glad to hear the good news. Hopefully they can determine if it was caused by alcohol, and get her the help she needs for that too.

Lisa - hope you are feeling better when you wake up...my blood sugar is way high this morning...I just do not think that carbs of any kind agree with me...dont want to go back on meds at night, so not sure what to do about it at all.
Robin - what are you eating at night before bed? Is it different on days your BS is high in the a.m.?

So sorry to hear about your friend. Dennis will be added to the prayer list.

Robin - I am glad to see that there are others out there who seem to have the same doubts I do. I also answered yes to her questions, but seem to be the slowest loser here. I have still only lost about 18 lbs in 3.5 months, and haven't even really dropped a pants size, just fitting more comfortably in the ones I have (and had outgrown). However, even if I lose 5 lbs. a month, that is so much better than where I was going. I just need to stay positive (hard to do with all the rain here too), and move forward. I do feel better, but still struggle to make by carbs work on Step 2. I end up eating weird things at meals just to get my carbs in. Last night I grabbed Chinese because I had to work a Board meeting, and after eating the shrimp and veggies I realized I still needed an 11-20. So I grabbed sweet potato chips. They were good, but didn't really go with the Chinese.:rotfl:

Sandra, we love you also. Please join in the chats. That's why we are all here. This has become more of a friendship with a WOL on the side, if you know what I mean, and we would love for you to jump in with both feet. We can't chat with you when you are only reading, but I know how tough it can be to feel like I have something worthy to say.

Barb - glad you got a new security system. When we were robbed last year we decided not to turn it in either. Not worth the hassle and the increase in premiums.

I went to Jamba Juice and got a coldbuster! It's not on the plan but boy it felt good on the throat.

No Zumba for me for the next 2 days :sad1:

Love you bunches!!!

Laura, sorry you are feeling so poorly. It really seems to be getting around. I'll Zumba extra hard tonight in your honor!

I have a "non-scale success story" to report.

While walking ahead of DH the other day, he reached over to pat my backside. He gave it a rub and said "If that is what Zumba is doing for you keep it up!" So apparently there has been some toning in areas I can't see, but DH is keeping track of it for me.;)
