MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Good evening everyone!! It is so nice to see you all here tonight. Missed you all!!

Robin, I just make the "basic" muffin recipe and add stuff I think may be good in it. I did coconut oil and chocolate, and tasted a bit like a mounds.

Nell, I don't see why you can't use oatmeal and use it as a 11-20.

I am sort of like you all. If step 1 is working, stay on it, but toss it up a bit maybe. Just pay attention to your body.

Day off tomorrow, yaaa! I was planning to decorate, but may end up meeting mom at the mall and just hang out a bit.

Ok, off to finish my chef salad. Late supper. If Mike doesn't hog my computer, I'll be back LOL

I am eating every four hours and including a 11-20 carb. At those daytime meals I try to include some other foods. I'm struggling with getting the veggies in however. Like people have mentioned, this isn't about win or fail, I'm taking this wonderful new info and incorporating it into my life with great results! But it doesn't mean the book is the only good information there is. One example I'm thinking of is processed food. Diane is all right with a lot of it. I prefer to stay away from most processing. I'm not going to take that knowledge I have and can it because I'm following the book.

This is working great for me now. I eat at 2:00, 6:00, and 10:00 both AM and PM. 10am is breakfast, 2pm is lunch, 6pm is dinner, 10pm is before bed, and the 2am and 6am in the middle of the night is a liquid yogurt mix I make up and put by the bed. I love my little containers with the screw caps for this. They hold exactly 8 fluid ounces. All of my meals tend to be small and low calorie. I think it's important where I'm eating so many times a day to keep them small. I know I'm not eating enough vegetables, and am trying to work on that. I need to make more cream of vegetable soups I think. They are so easy, and a very palatable way to get down even vegetables you don't love so much!

Sorry to be a downer tonight...still at work, but just got word that they will not be able to treat Dennis's cancer, as it has spread everywhere....:sad1: trying to decide now if they will be able to send him home with morphine and a daily nurse checking in...OMG:sad2:

I will try to ready up on posts later on when I get home...theywont even let me visit tonight as it will be too late by the time I get off work...Pony is very very sad...

Kathy, You're welcome out here anytime you can make it, as we are the land of PERPETUAL sunshine. You would need to bring some of your rain with you but just maybe a few days worth. We are not greedy. Also, Tyson would love it here. He could run the hills with my dogs and help chase away coyotes and maybe even find some of the shoes that Lobster has lost for us. It's kind of doggie heaven as they can then run through a really smelly, yucky pond on their way back home and act hurt that they aren't allowed back in the house when they return! LOL
Carol,
Tyson would have a blast!! But I have to keep him away from the pond, unless it's not too deep. He is top heavy, and doesn't know how to swim. That is a downfall of some boxers. I always thought dogs knew how to swim instinctly. Tyson drops straight to the bottom LOL. I don't want to have to jump into a stinky pond to save him :lmao:

Glad your feeling a bit better.

Oh Robin, I am so sorry!! My heart goes out to you, Dennis and Rick. I will be saying a lot of prayers for everyone involved. I am sending some hugs your way and tons of love. Wish I were there with you to hold you all and wipe the tears.

Pony  I'm so sorry. Maybe he could try some of the alternative treatments. There is something called the "Gerson Therapy." It has had success where doctors said there wasn't any hope sometimes. Google it. It about a lot of condensed nutrition using juicers. Nothing too out there.

Hi, Jocelyn. I have the power cord problem too. I like to sit in bed with my coffee and laptop (like right now) and it ruins the powercord. It also ruins the connection inside the computer that allows the battery to charge. So, I generally have to keep it plugged in. This is probably the third laptop I have had so I know it is the way I sit with it that is the problem - not the computer. Anyway, I hope you have your powercord!

I wanted to tell you that I don't use Photobucket for my FB pictures. Just regular jpegs work just fine. I send pictures to facebook directly from my phone or I just upload them from my computer with no problems.

Thanks for the info. That is probably why my battery has not been charging a lot lately, either. I am waiting for the cord - takes about a week to get anything here!! The laptop I am using now has a much sturdier connection so I will probably continue to use it for my posts while having it on my lap. They are called Laptops, aren't they?????

Good Morning. I stayed on step1 up to Thanksgiving day and the day after. No big binges but ate stuffing two days in a row. Went right back on step1 last Saturday. I know I have to go to step2 eventually but I have almost decided to save step2 for after my weightloss phase. Use step2 for a trial maintenance and see what happens. If I continue to lose I'll test step3 carb levels. As I said before, Diane advises step2 based on the opinion that too low carbs are not healthy. I just disagree that step1 carbs are too low. In fact, there is a rather moderate carb level when compared to all the other lc plans. What I'm taking from Diane is the new knowledge of the importance of the timing for carbs and the reduced fat. I'll continue to do that for any phase I'm doing. So, while I'm not technically following MM by the book, I'm still an MMer as far as I'm concerned :upsidedow

Barb, I agree with you and that is what I was trying to say to Robin, too. There really are quite a few carbs allowed with veggies being a free food. I think the timing is the key here and the fact that I now sleep through the night is the best treat of all. I know I don't stick to the same amount every day so my system is not used to one number.

Robin: I’m so sorry to hear about Dennis’ prognosis. I will be praying for him.

Nell: We watched a great movie about the Gerson therapy. It was wonderful. I think the name is The Beautiful Truth. Highly recommend it. The format is an investigative piece done by a very young man for a school project. He travels the country interviewing doctors and nutritionists. Wonderful! Glad you are with me on Step 2!

I don’t think our bodies could get used to a number if the number is made up of different sources every day. Variety is the spice of life! What I am very afraid of is not having this formula to rely on and slowly ‘sneaking’ back in the carbs that got me in trouble. I lost weight twice with Aitkens, but I got more and more exhausted and as soon as I started to eat anything with carbs, I gained it all back. I never want to mess up my body like that again. That’s why I feel like relying on Diane since she has the experience with so many other people. I can see using Step 1 formula for clean up times, but making up my own plan would really frighten me.

Hello all,
I just wanted to pop in and say hello, let you all know I am still following this WOE and enjoying my carbs :lmao:

Pony, so sorry to read your bad news, I will be praying for all of you in this time of need!

I haven't been able to read all the posts but did catch a few of them. This is a very busy season for me and my little ones, so I will be in and out a lot but I am still here!

I have gained 5lbs since adding in carbs, this isn't upsetting me as I know that has happened to others. I just hope that I start to loose really soon. I am worried about my hubby though, he is showing some inches gone, but no lbs as of yet even on step 1 but he isn't exercising at all and I think this might have everything to do with it... not sure on that!

Everyone else is doing fine now, we had cases of the flu and colds floating in this family, but all is getting better now!

Will catch up later so wishing you all well till then!! :flower3:

Good Evening All –

Kathy – thanks for re-posting the recipe. It really does help to have fun things to taste now and then.

Robin – no I do not do a night time feeding. I tried it at first, but now I barely wake up and go right back to sleep. When I was still reading from 3 – 4 AM or so, I would have something, but haven’t done that for quite a while. I don’t like to make any noise if I can help it, either. I do not have the blood sugar issues, though. I agree, calories do count at some point, but you do need some fat. I’m not a fan of most low, non fat items as they replace the fat with sugars!! The carb count goes up quite fast with them. I don’t use all that much of anything, so like the real thing. How sad that Ken will not be back for the holidays, but absence does make the heart grow fonder? I speak from experience!!! Your trip to CT should be great, though.

Will continue to pray for your friend, too. How sad for both of them.

Kate – so sorry to hear your niece is still not doing well. It doesn’t sound good at all. More prayers going that way, too.

Lisa – Georgia Lee has barely posted lately on “her” site. When someone asked why all of you weren’t there anymore I was tempted to say that one of them had been too high handed and did the whole thing in. I refrained, though!! She has not mentioned she is having blood sugar issues, either.

Lisa – you and Nell are doing so well, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Beverly – hope you are not coming down with something major. I’m sure your plants will enjoy their warmer home!

Nell – I think you could use the oatmeal – as long as you don’t add real sugar you could have a real find. Oatmeal is a lot less expensive than the nut “flours”. Actually a lot of my low carb recipes call for oat flour which is just finer ground oatmeal. The Starbuck’s here has an oatmeal muffin that is to die for – literally!. The calories and WW points were in the paper one day. It was my favorite breakfast for many months several years ago. I didn’t think to try to de-carb it!

Oh Pony – I’m writing this as I read the posts. How sad about Dennis. A special hug for you.

Hi Melanie, good to see you

I got through today’s posts. Hope I didn’t miss any comments. I did get to my water aerobic class this morning. The new gym is so state of the art. I just wished it wasn’t so far away. I had a great morning there.

I have been invited to a fashion show – luncheon tomorrow. It should be fun. The menu will be a set one, but hopefully they will do one of their salads that are so good. Part of the restaurant is outside, though and it is pouring rain at the moment. Not sure what that will do for the gathering!! We are finally getting our December weather. Just had a flash of lightening and then the thunder right on top of it!!

I think I am going to say good night as we often lose power in storms like this!!

“See” you all in the morning.

Love you:love:

Treadmilled off some frustration and feel better now...SORRY!

Carol - your words have been very uplifting and have brought me some peace...thank you for that my friend.

Lisa - dont fret...Im not going to go off plan...just thinking I will return to the basics of step 1 and not freak out if I have 6g instead of 5!! Going to be sure to eat every 4-5 hours and get lots of veggies and "legal" carbs...and if a day or two finds me having an 11-20 or two, then so be it!! Of course Diane's response will be HUGE in whatever I decide to do...I have huge respect for her, but just dont think step 2 is going to work out for me for the long term...I REALLY dont want to go back on meds just to have 11-20's on a daily basis! One of the GREATEST things about the first 8 weeks for me, was being able to go off so many of my meds!! Im quite happy to have Julian bread and 5g wraps instead of rice, sweet potatoes and beans!! Perhaps she will have some other sort of advice, so we shall see tomorrow. I have NO carb cravings at all, now or on step 1, so Im not too worried about straying away from the carb restrictions either...none of that really interests me at all any more, and quite frankly I find having to eat the step 2 carbs a pain in the neck and I dont enjoy any of them really...I can still make Jocelyns chili without the beans, and sub the sweet potatoes for more broccoli and mashed cauliflower!! Nell's broccoli cheese soup, miracle quiche with lots of veggies, and salads with tuna or chicken....sounds great to me right now!

I feel the need to sleep, so Im going to have a few pieces of turkey, a handful of pistachios, and go to bed...

Melanie - so good to see you here, Im sure the holidays will be very busy for you with little ones around!! Hubby definitely needs to add in the exercise...dont forget that Diane is adamant that it is a very key piece to this puzzle!!

Thanks Jocelyn, I think we were posting at the same time...Its going to be a tough road ahead, I just pray that he wont suffer long term, it would just be heartbreaking for everyone.

I think I am getting plenty of fat with the cream cheese, and other cheeses that I eat, plus the occasional pat of butter when I cook eggs...Im not going to go crazy and restrict my calories, just trying not to add in any I dont need! Seems crazy to go to the gym and burn off 250-300 of them, and then wake up in the middle of the night just to eat some more that I dont even want!

I was quite surprised to hear from GL in my e-mail yesterday! Not quite sure what she is about these days, and dont quite care. I guess maybe she was looking for some type of response from me regarding blood sugar, since it was she and I that had asked Diane what could be causing the rises when she and I both graduated initially to step 2. Her e-mail said that she was basically off plan, not exercising or drinking all her water, etc so maybe that is why she isnt posting much over there...maybe a little embarrassed to be handing out advice that she isnt doing herself!

Have a great time at the fashion show and hope you dont lose power!!

Robin: I'm looking forward to hearing what Diane suggests for you. I can see why you would be concerned about medication. You did only have elevated sugar in the morning, though, right? Does the doctor say you could deal with that without medication? I hope so, in case it continues. I can't help but be worried as it seems like everyone is having trouble with Step 2 but me and Nell and I'm afraid this whole thing is falling apart. My husband wants to stay on Step 2. He likes it better. He lost another 1/2 inch off his waist since we were worried about his progress so he's decided to stay on it. Anyway, I know you will pass on whatever Diane says.

Hi everyone! Marti fell in love with Farmville on facebook, so I couldn't get on the computer all night. :rotfl: At this point I have to hurry before the strawberry crops wilt. Good gosh!

Lisa, don't worry, we're not all going to fall apart. Even if some of us are one step one again, we'll still be doing it.

Pony, Step one and step two are different animals. I think to do step one it has to be less than 5 carbs to keep the L & P shut down. Once it starts up Diane has us do exactly between 11 and 20 but that is reprogramming them to work right. If you went back and forth I think you'd end up a mess. But maybe 11-20 isn't the only magic number for reprogramming. It will be good to see what Diane says.

I'm going to go over to the recipe thread and check the muffin recipe. I have a little flax too, so I can add some of that too. I'm going to see what I need to try them from oatmeal. I can make oatmeal flour in the Puerto Rican style wooden mortar and pestle we have. Oatmeal is so affordable. I think I large can of generic oatmeal is even less expensive than wheat flour. I hope it comes out well.

Well, I have to go to sleep. It's 5am and I haven't slept. I wanted to say good night and I didn't realize I was waiting so late. Stupid farmville! lol Night everyone! :grouphug:

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great night sleep.

Nell, I have the same problem lately with Mike and Jungle Jewels on FB. He NEVER gets on a computer, and he saw me playing it. Now he's addicted. He started playing it yesterday morning around 10am and played until about 3 this morning. Minus about 3 hours. I am going to bring Carrie's desk computer downstairs (she doesn't use it) so I can come here when I feel the urge LOL. I have decided my kid isn't normal. She doesn't want her computer!! It is an older one, and she did ask for a computer for her June birthday so she has it for nursing school. But she never was one to watch tv or get on computers much.

Robin, maybe if you "inch up" your carbs, you'll find your magic number. Can't remember if your still on step 1 or not. I would do as you said, but start with maybe 10 carbs and see how that goes. Not sure if it would help. I can't blame you for not wanting to take meds.

Lisa, forgot to tell you good luck with your new clients. Now when I watch House Hunters on tv, I think of you. LOL I am glad Tom has finally had some results. Maybe he just needed an "oomph" of sorts to get over a little hump :confused3. I decided to wait until after the holidays to go on step 2, so you and Nell won't be alone for too long.

Melanie, great to see you. Try to enjoy the holiday season even though you'll be so busy!!

Nell, I would grind up the oatmeal and just use it instead of the flax and see how it goes. I think it would work great. Really miss oatmeal.

Jocelyn, just wanted to say hi and that I wish I had your weather. I absolutely love watching storms. Never seen one over the ocean though. I think it would be so beautiful to see!! Be safe.

Need to get dressed. Have a good day. Need to clean house today if I don't meet up with mom at the mall. I am wanting to get my Christmas tree this weekend!! And we are to have snow showers, so it will be nice decorating it!!

Sharon, thanks for the cute email. I loved it!! I have also come to the conclusion, I think I like dog days better!! LOL

Oh, before I forget, Mike said on the Dr. Oz show yesterday, he was talking about chronic fatigue syndrome. That is the main reason I want Carrie's computer downstairs. She has sound, so I can hopefully log on and watch it.
:grouphug:

Hi Ladies! My laptop crashed the other day so I have to use my husbands and he usually has it with him at work--I have it for the day so I'm trying to catch up.

I'm learning soooo much about fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, unbelievable! Thats were I've been, sorry ladies but I'm cheating on you all with other message boards!!

Also some of you know about my mom--she had an mri the other night and the next morning we had to go to radiation. It only took 2 months and a week's visit to the hospital (where they DIDN'T see the mass!) to finally figure out what she had, and she's been in pain since. UG!! very frustrating.

ok, going to make some coffee (decaf of course!):surfweb:

Kathy--how to do watch Dr. Oz on the computer?? I missed the first 8 minutes and I feel like I missed alot! I know he was talking about the XMRV virus that they're now saying is whats causing chronic fatigue--want to get that testing done--thanks
