MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Sorry to be a downer tonight...still at work, but just got word that they will not be able to treat Dennis's cancer, as it has spread everywhere....:sad1: trying to decide now if they will be able to send him home with morphine and a daily nurse checking in...OMG:sad2:

I will try to ready up on posts later on when I get home...theywont even let me visit tonight as it will be too late by the time I get off work...Pony is very very sad...

Oh, Robin..... Hugs, hugs, hugs.....:hug::hug::hug:

Quick check in before heading off to work...thanks for all the hugs and prayers and concern...if I lived with them and could do it all for them , MAYBE they would seek second opinions and alternative therapies, but as it stands, it seems they are just ready to lay down and bury their heads in the sand...not a thing I can do but pray and be the shoulder to cry on...not sure with the no insurance thing where they would go for that second opinion anyway...Rick is full fledged into drama queen mode, woe is me, and Dennis is actually appearing the stronger one and just accepting his fate.:confused3

Sent off the e-mail to Diane, so I guess I will pass along her words of wisdom later. She is usually so quick to answer!!

Lisa - Its not all falling apart...just to the point where we are expecting greater results and trying to figure out how to achieve them! If I was plugging along and losing a pound a week or so I would be ok with that, but its just not happening, and I am being so good about my exercise and all, I just cant understand why Im not losing! My total losses in 4 months was almost ALL achieved during the first 8 weeks on step 1, and the last 8 weeks have really produced nothing...I am SO glad that it is working well for you and Tom and also for Nell, but step 2 really doesnt seem to be agreeing with anyone else. And I KNOW we are all doing it according to her plan, although in different ways and with different schedules and foods. How I wish I could be able to go to NJ and meet with Diane in person!!

Sorry y'all are losing your computer time to spouses with FB addictions! LOL, at least the ponies and doggie here have no computer priviledges!

Robin: I'm looking forward to hearing what Diane suggests for you. I can see why you would be concerned about medication. You did only have elevated sugar in the morning, though, right? Does the doctor say you could deal with that without medication? I hope so, in case it continues. I can't help but be worried as it seems like everyone is having trouble with Step 2 but me and Nell and I'm afraid this whole thing is falling apart. My husband wants to stay on Step 2. He likes it better. He lost another 1/2 inch off his waist since we were worried about his progress so he's decided to stay on it. Anyway, I know you will pass on whatever Diane says.

Nothing is going to fall apart  When in the past has any new way of eating worked perfectly for everyone? Not. I can't say why Pony or others are having trouble with step2 or why you, Tom and Nell are very well suited to it :confused3 I think we all have to take the best parts of MM that work for us to make it something we can live with forever. I truly believe some are much more sensitive to carbs than others and that's why I chose to stay on step1 for the weight loss phase and test step2 for maintenance. It's still MM and we will be here regardless of how we customized the plan

I hope Dennis' acceptance is a sign that he's at peace and maybe, just maybe, he's accepted God too.

Robin - so sorry to hear about Dennis.

Sorry to hear they aren't open to alternative therapies. We have a commercial here from Cancer Centers of America, and the quote one woman has from her Dr. when she asked how long she had was "We looked over every bit of you, and nowhere did I see an expiration date", or something like that. I hope they find the will to keep fighting.

Robin - let us know what Diane said.

Lisa - glad to hear Tom is losing again.

Jocelyn - how cool to sit and watch the storm over the water. I love a good thunderstorm.

Natalie - glad to see you back!

Melanie - nice to see you.

Well, our HS band concert was awesome last night. I came home and was too tired to get online, so I just vegged in front of the TV for awhile.

I skipped Zumba last night (first time) since my knee had been bothering me, plus since I took the day off work I didn't feel right going to exercise class. Obviously my mom drilled that into my head when I was a kid.

Back at the office today, so off to work!

Hello all,
I just wanted to pop in and say hello, let you all know I am still following this WOE and enjoying my carbs :lmao:

Pony, so sorry to read your bad news, I will be praying for all of you in this time of need!

I haven't been able to read all the posts but did catch a few of them. This is a very busy season for me and my little ones, so I will be in and out a lot but I am still here!

I have gained 5lbs since adding in carbs, this isn't upsetting me as I know that has happened to others. I just hope that I start to loose really soon. I am worried about my hubby though, he is showing some inches gone, but no lbs as of yet even on step 1 but he isn't exercising at all and I think this might have everything to do with it... not sure on that!

Everyone else is doing fine now, we had cases of the flu and colds floating in this family, but all is getting better now!

Will catch up later so wishing you all well till then!! :flower3:

Melanie, good to hear from you! If hubby continues to have no weight loss, please post a typical days eating for him and let us take a look. Is it possible he's cheating? Just a thought. My hubby sometimes pretends to follow whatever WOE I'm on but only when I'm looking. Then I find fast food bags in the trash ;)

Good evening everyone!! It is so nice to see you all here tonight. Missed you all!!

Robin, I just make the "basic" muffin recipe and add stuff I think may be good in it. I did coconut oil and chocolate, and tasted a bit like a mounds.

Nell, I don't see why you can't use oatmeal and use it as a 11-20.

I am sort of like you all. If step 1 is working, stay on it, but toss it up a bit maybe. Just pay attention to your body.

Day off tomorrow, yaaa! I was planning to decorate, but may end up meeting mom at the mall and just hang out a bit.

Ok, off to finish my chef salad. Late supper. If Mike doesn't hog my computer, I'll be back LOL

Kathy, Enjoy your day off no matter what you do!

Hi Ladies! My laptop crashed the other day so I have to use my husbands and he usually has it with him at work--I have it for the day so I'm trying to catch up.

I'm learning soooo much about fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, unbelievable! Thats were I've been, sorry ladies but I'm cheating on you all with other message boards!!

Also some of you know about my mom--she had an mri the other night and the next morning we had to go to radiation. It only took 2 months and a week's visit to the hospital (where they DIDN'T see the mass!) to finally figure out what she had, and she's been in pain since. UG!! very frustrating.

ok, going to make some coffee (decaf of course!):surfweb:

Natalie, good to hear from you. I'm sorry your Mom had to go so long without proper diagnosis and care

Natalie: I'd love to have some of the links you are perusing:) I need all the help I can get. I'm in a slump and can't seem to get the fatigue arrested this go round.

I just wanted to remind everyone that we aren't supposed to evaluate losses on any step until 8 uninterrupted weeks have passed. Yes, I do cheat and weigh and measure, but that's not to say we should expect to see numbers change before the 8 week cycles. We used to be so good about reminding each other about Diane's recommendations. We are all individual in our needs, but I just wanted to go on record that I very much need support that is black and white because I am terrified that anything else is going to put me back to where I was last year. This is just me asking for what I know I need, not to speak for anyone else. :grouphug:

Lisa - Diane told me to measure every 4 weeks on step 2...and as usual to stay off the scale as much as possible. So I have measured at the beginning of week 9, (first day of step 2 first go round), then again before I went BACK to step 2 4 weeks ago...nothing at all lost in waist or hips. Not even a smidge! And I did weigh at those same intervals, so I know that I have only lost another couple pounds during the entire last 2 months, since leaving step 1 the first time. Now I reminded Diane that all the weight lifting and exercise maybe helping convert fat into muscle, so I know that will weigh more...and I am the one who truly does NOT care what the scale says....its the lack of inches and sizes lost that is concerning me most. I could easily fit into the next size pants right now as far as legs and butt go...its just that the hips and waist wont allow it! The doctor recommended "standard" for safe weight loss has always been like 1-2 pounds a week, although I realize that doesnt pertain to us MM's. But my questions to Diane are that so many others seem to be having success, even when they are not sticking to plan anywhere NEAR as religiously as I have been. Reporting pants falling down, needing new undies, having to buy belts, bellies deflating in as little as a couple weeks time. Remember that KW was losing sizes like every couple weeks! And she was just sitting in a chair doing arm exercises!! And I DO have alot to lose too, like others, its not like I am smaller and only trying to lose a few pounds...I need to take off another 60 at least!! And it just is not happening, no matter what I do.

Barb - I agree that no matter what modifications any of us do, nobody is leaving here or not an MM! We are all in this together, no matter how each one of us gets there. Kathy is still on step 1 but she is drinking a glass of milk before bed at night...not a legal food for step 1, but its working for her!!

Nell - I understand the "science" behind the specific allotments of carbs, the reasoning for the 11-20, but if that amount is not working for me, whats a Pony to do? 11-20 just seems to be too many carbs for me...

:drive: Lisa, this is me hopping in the car to come down there to give you a hug. No one here wants to influence you in any way to change what you are doing. YOU know what black and white is for YOU and we are still here to support you as well as everyone else no matter what adjustments they've had to make. This group has always been one to veer off the garden path and that is one of the qualities that brought us together :grouphug:

Robin, close your eyes, this is about mushrooms

Jocelyn and anyone else interested, I just posted the cream cheese stuffed mushroom recipe in the recipe thread. A free food on any step :woohoo:

Robin: Have you heard from Diane lately? I am a bit confused by some of your statements because you told me that Step 2 wasn't working for anyone but me, Nell and Tom but then you said others have lost a lot and you are comparing yourself to them. I can really see that you are frustrated and I hope you and Diane find the solution that is right for you. If you are a 'rare bird' your formula may be different than what she recommends for the rest of us. I bet you look terrific anyway after all that exercise and you probably feel much more like your old self.

Thanks, Barb! Hug received. Is veering working for anyone as far as better results? Hope so, if so! I am so tired of having a problem and I need the solution to be at hand. I honestly don't think I have any more experimentation left in me.

Natalie: Are you still seeing Diane?

You are doing so well, it seems you have already found your solution, right? You don't need to experiment anymore, I think you've found what works for you. As far as veering goes, I am doing much better after returning to step1. I lost inches and pounds on step1. I did step2 for about 5 weeks and found my waist continuing to go up  I did lose a few pounds though. I re-started step1 about a month ago. I've lost all the inches I'd gained in my waist plus another one for a total of 6" off the waist :woohoo: In addition, I'm down another 5 pounds. If it aint broke, don't fix it :)

I would like to hear from anyone else who's been tweaking the plan. How are you doing?

I'm so glad that worked! I wonder if I should do Step 1 before Christmas??? I'd like to be thinner for the pictures this year. Do you think it could cause me any harm or not? Are you doing pure Step 1? I think Nell is right that to mix the two might confuse the L & P.

Oh, and if one decides to stay on Step 1, what would one do about a special occasion? Just do it and go right back to pure Step 1? Probably. Do you think you'll ever add in carbs again on a daily basis? That's what messed me up the most about Aitkens. I couldnt' do it forever.

Absolutely, pure step1. I may not be following Diane's step2 guidelines but I'm still black and white step1 ;) Lisa, I don't think step1 for 3 weeks would cause any harm or problems. Then you could do a step2 Christmas and ease back into step2 using the most gentle carbs recommended. JMHO

Thanks, Barb! I'm going to talk it over with Tom.

I think I'll go to Ace Hardware. It's a beautiful day, I need more miniature lights and I'm weird cause I love a good hardware store! Oh, and there's no food there, or is there?

Good morning everyone! I'm really twisting my gut around thinking. I wouldn't have made it through Thanksgiving without everyone helping me. And everything costs so much here. I'm really thinking of going to school and then heading back north, or somewhere that it doesn't cost so much to live. I know it sounds trivial, but I've got myself worked up to a state. What is keeping me balanced is things like considering Dennis and Natalie's mom, and realizing it could be a lot worse.

Pony, I wasn't trying to increase your frustration. What I was trying to say and probably didn't do well is that I'm thinking whatever step works for you, it would be better to stick to it instead of mixing the two. Or if you want to try something in between ex: 8 carbs, then do that exact amount every five hours. I'm thinking the back and forth might be the thing that messes with your system. Whatever you decide though we'll all be here to help you through it. Worse case scenario, whatever carb amount you chose doesn't work and you'll end up back on one anyway. Which I know really depresses you. :)

Lisa, stay where you are. It's working. I think your doing like I do, trying to tweak things to speed things up. In my opinion that is heading for trouble land.

Kathy  I hope you have a wonderful day. Just think how much nicer the house will feel all cleaned up! It will be nice to have it clean while your putting up the decorations too!

Barb, I'm glad your doing so well. I'm proud of you also for recognizing old patterns!

Ok, I better check the bank and stuff before the farmer gets going.

Oops, I missed the last part. I'm with you, I couldn't do Atkins forever either. That's why I'm thinking step1 for the weight loss, then test step2 for maintenance. If I keep losing, I'll try step3 carb levels and see what happens. Step2 is really generous on carbs and won't be hard to stay on. Like any other step1 cheat, you just pick yourself up and go right back to it. Since you're already doing it for the long haul, there's no need to add 3 days or 10 days or whatever because of the cheat. Again, this may not be for everyone but it's what my mind and body likes. :)
