MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

It must be something that the insulin does to us. I wonder if it causes inflammation?

That is a very astute thought Nell. You could be right. Something else I've read about recently is that research has shown a very low carb diet has been found to prevent cancer cells from growing. Some cancer cells feed off the sugars in carbs and will starve and die when not given sugar. Another good reason to keep our diets lower carb. :thumbsup2

Definitely! It's amazing how much they know now about cancer and what contributes to it. Lisa knows a ton about that. Where is Lisa anyway? She must have gotten busy with Hubby.

It's good to be back. Night, see you tomorrow. I changed my voicemail message at work to let people know I wouldn't be there all last week, so I'm sure I'll have a gazillion voicemails tomorrow :headache:

I tried to scan the the site here last week but wasn't able to really follow too much. Did I see stwill post that she was struggling? Has she been back? I hope she's ok. We all know how hard it can be when carbs take over our minds..I have to tell you, after just a few days of overeating carbs, my body did NOT like it. Everything that usually hurts really felt worse. Aches and fatigue that I'd forgotten could feel so bad. I wonder why carbs effect us so much physically

Barb, anything that turns to sugar in your body causes inflammation, which is the root cause of aging and most disease. Starchy foods as well as sugary ones turn into sugar. Most of the white stuff is bad for us.

He just went to bed early so I'm back for a minute:) Cancer thrives in an acid environment. Sugar causes the body to lean acidic, as well as coffee, meat and dairy. Leafy greens keep you alkaline.

Frozen grape snack and bedtime for me, ladies! Sleep tight! Love you all! Glad you are back in the fold, Barb!:grouphug:

Hey all,
We just had a wonderful dinner...bar-b-qued tri-tip roast, a spaghetti squash casserole and sweet potato pie for dessert. I posted the casserole and pie recipes on the recipe thread. They were both from RecipeZaar.com and modified some by my daughter and I. The pie recipe tasted just like pumpkin with less carbs...very legal on Step 2. It called for brown sugar in the recipe but I added 1 TB molasses, which was 16 gr carbs, and my family liked it better than pumpkin pie. It was a little more dense.

Since some of you were talking about cows earlier, I have a story to share. Yesterday, I was driving home from the grocery store with my 3yr old grandson and we were talking about what he was going to do when he got home. I told him that he could be my big helper by waking up his 18yr old aunt. I suggested he take a flashlight and shine it in her eyes to see if she was awake ( small children absolutely LOVE flashlights). He said this sounded good but that we would also need to find a "flying cow". This threw me for a loop, so I asked where we would find a "flying cow". He replied, very seriously, "in a garage". DUH, of course, how could I be so stupid! Well, we looked in a few of the garages that we passed on the way home and didn't see any so he was quite happy to take the flashlight and use that to wake up his aunt. He also suggested that we drive the car in her bedroom because the headlights would be very strong to wake her up. His aunt grumbled about the flashlight in her eyes but didn't know that she had been spared the "flying cow' and the car headlights. I sure LOVE small Children!

Nell, Robin..Sounds like step 2 is going okay for you. Robin, I don't do the green tea for religious reasons and I know I'll be just fine without it. So, you're not the only one not drinking it.
Barb, It's good to see you again. Don't be too bummed out about your slip...life is to be lived and this plan will always be there waiting for you to start back up. I find that such a comforting thought. It is sooo not the end of the world if we mess up!

I intend to do a regular Thanksgiving. I will eat small amounts of the stuffing and potatoes and then fix a sugar free cheesecake and sweet potato pie along with a few other regular pies. We have about 15 people coming. Most times we have upwards of 20, but my kids wanted to keep it just immediate family this year, so we'll see what we end up with.

Okay, I've rambled on enough. Will check in tomorrow.

Feast upon the Words of Christ

Wel, I am off to bed too...got my 11-20 all off schedule today, so just had a string cheese and some crackers and will get up in a few hours for some yogurt....back on track tomorow for sure!! I cant believe this Met B stuff can screw us up so much!!

I've been trying to sneak spinach into everything I can, since I dont like the taste of it plain...even stirred some into my mashed cauliflower last week...any other ideas how I can get "leafy greens" in? I want to be Alkaline!! Guess I will put some in a quiche when I cook again on Tuesday...what else is considered a "leafy green"?? And I dont want to hear ANYTHING about seaweed Lisa!! I guess maybe I dont need to worry too much with my Shakeology? dont I have kelp and all kinds of weird grass in there? I need to go to the website and post the ingredients again so you can look at them for me...seems like Barb might have gone there and somehow got the nutrition panel to post...then we all got ZAPPED by LCF and the troubles began!! OMG, was that all my fault!!:scared1:

Carol - if you dont mind my asking...what religious reasons keep you from drinking green tea? I know that most here are very religious and spiritual, as I know I am, and I was just curious about that...maybe I shouldnt be drinking it for religious reasons either? Please dont be offended by my asking and feel free to tell me if you dont care to share that information.

Anything salad is a leafy green (darker is better) and in kale soup the kale is a leafy green and all of those greens that they cook in the south, I don't even know the names.

I want to be alkaline too! (are banana's alkaline?)

It wasn't all your fault Pony! :grouphug: And if you were an instrument of change that god was using, good for you!:woohoo:

Robin,
I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints aka Mormons. We don't drink coffee, tea or liquor. I'm not offended that you asked. It's what I am and how I live. I would not presume to tell you that this is something that you have to do, it's just what I do. I truly love the spirituality that I find here with all you friends and the comfort I feel in saying I go to church and that I follow Christ.

Thanks Kathy. That sure wouldn't hurt  By the way, I would love to meet your dog, he sounds awesome :lovestruc

Thank you! I think he's pretty awesome for sure. Tons of training and treats. I really want to do therapy with him, so hopefully it all works out. We have tried to put him in every situation we could think of. He will even let us hold onto him and he will help us down stairs. He is such a good boy. He will let us do anything to him. So laid back and he trusts us completely. I would love to get another boxer. I have been looking for a couple months. But none really "jump out at me" like he did. In time I will.

Barb: I got the dresses at Ross, but months ago – didn’t try them on and they were too clingy when I did, but loved the fabrics so put them aside for inspiration. I can’t wait to wear one to work this week! We are simplifying Thanksgiving a bit – like a pure vegetable, instead of any sauce and plain sweet pots. I’ll make my pumpkin cheesecake for the rest of the fam and probably the low carb pie with the praline crust I have made before for us. We’ll have a big salad, too and probably soup for starters. Ginseng is an aphrodisiac, Barb! Were you prepared for that? LOL! The sandwich thins are Orowheat. 17 net carbs. It’s ginkgo biloba that’s good for your memory Kath.
Really screwed that one up!!! LOL. Sorry. Thinking I may need some of the ginko :lmao:

Good morning ladies, and Tom too!! What a wonderful night's sleep! I know it was a restorative sleep because I actually remember dreaming!! I know that is the REM stage, and where all your restoration comes from. I just hope it was an all night stage of sleep. I think you drift in and out of it, but don't really remember. It's fun to watch Tyson in his REM. His legs start moving around, like he's running, and he does a this little puppy woof. His jowls will fill with air and kind of blows out too. I'll have to get a video of it. It is so funny to watch and listen to.

I fell off the wagon of sorts last night at work. I was cleaning, and there were some of those tiny little tootsie rolls. My absolute favorite. Not even thinking, I grab the 4 last ones, and ate them. About 10 minutes later, I thought, WTH did I do? I can't believe I did that! Then making a steak sandwich. I used my 6 carb bread! Only 1 slice though. It was like I was on auto pilot or something!! It was a couple hours before I went to bed, so no bedtime snack. I did weigh myself this morning to see how badly I may have messed up. Gained 5 pounds in 1 night!! Lesson learnt! It totally amazes me how carbs can mess with us. I was so proud that I was down to 174. So, I promise to be good and be extremely careful from now on. But I thought about it last night, and realized I was closing in on my 5 hours when I went to work. I should have grabbed a mozzy stick or two to get me through.

On that note, Thanksgiving will be just a spoonful or two of stuffing, mashed potatoes, my mom candies sweet potatoes so I don't think I'll have those, and she usually has corn or peas, so I'm thinking of a low carb green bean casserole perhaps. Then I'll make Diane's pumpkin pie and use that for dessert.

So if I stay on step 1 until Dec. 1, I think I'll be ok.
Well, off to the shower. Have a great day everyone!!

To all our friends in the path of hurricane Ida. Please take care of yourselves and be careful. Be careful if you go out and about. I will be praying for all of you.

:grouphug:

Good Monday Morning Everyone! Ready to get myself together and back to my regular 11-20 schedule today...yesterday was just a mess!! OMG!

Kathy - funny how when we are hungry or tired, it is so easy to stray from the plan...I know that I have to treat step 2 like a JOB just to keep it straight...dont know why it just seems to require more dedication from me then step 1 did...I guess it will be better after I have been on it a couple more weeks, I DO remember step 1 being a challenge in the beginning! When I did my re-run it was like old home week!
That is so awesome that you have managed to bring Tyson along to the point where he could be an assistance dog....takes so much time and dedication! I do believe that some dogs just seem cut out for it though...and Im sure its not every boxer that would be as great as he is...I know the Jack Russell I have now is the best Jack I have ever known, and I have had many...when he is gone I dont think I would ever find another like him, so will probably not get another one! Im sure you will just "KNOW" when another boxer will be the right one for you!

Carol - thanks so much for sharing that...I did not know that Mormons had that restriction...I knew about the alcohol, of course, but not the coffee and tea...thats interesting. I do agree though, that the spirituality and belief in God that runs through most of us here is refreshing and comforting to me!

Lisa - shot of lemon juice with drop each of peppermint and lemon oils...right? I swear I am going to get it together and start that detox! I wonder too, are you taking the B-12? I understand that Diane is recommending that now also...I sure hope she plans to put out a "sequel" to the original book and list all of the updates she has made!!
How did your open house go? Hopefully you had the beautiful weather we had here on the East coast to bring the people out looking!
Whatever happened with you getting in touch with Abby? did you end up finding her and she had gone off the plan? I forgot what the outcome of that was...

Hope those of you who are "missing" will stop in soon, we miss you!!
