I'm considering a quick weekend to UO over MlK weekend (the weekend before the HP blowout). Im trying to minimize days off work/school. I'm also taking two masters classes on mon/wed, so mlk monday would be the only monday off class.

We went this past Memorial Day and felt it was more crowded than Xmas week. Does anyone have experience with MLK weekend? My second option would be to take off a Friday and just go fri- sun (like jan 31-feb2)

Thx!

I was there this past MLK weekend....Parks were packed and traffic "Holy s*&T....

Yes I stayed on site.....Took the bus around so I would not have to drive....Lines were bad in the mornings. But slowed some what in late afternoon.

How about the Thursday-Friday before MLK? We are trying the squeeze it in before our cruise.

the darkside hotels are a very close walk to the parks.

taking the bus to the parks from the hotel is a long ride.

are you talking about the darkside hotels?
i'm confused by you taking the bus and not having to drive to the parks.

or are you talking about taking the mears shuttle bus from the motherland to the darkside parks?

Ya, kind of a confusing post.

OP, if you don't want to walk, the water taxi is a better alternative to taking the bus. The buses are more for transportation between the hotels. However, we did have the bus pick us up once when we were taking the shortcut from the PBH and he drove us right to the US entrance area. That was very nice!

If you are staying onsite, don't worry about crowds and lines...you'll be fine!!!

We were there last year for MLK, and found Universal to be completely manageable, approx 45-60 minute waits for standby, and express was approx 15 minutes or so on most. We were also there for Memorial Day, and while we found the Disney parks to be extemely busy, we actually thought that Uni was so much easier to get around that we spent an extra day of the weekend there that we had originally planned to spend at Disney. :confused3

I'm the OP and actually never asked anything about transportation, my sole question was in regards to the crowds at the parks.

Thx

Sorry, I was just trying to give you a heads up because the information from other posters was not really in your best interests. I apologize for trying to save you time during your vacation.

damo, you always give excellent, and more, advice to everyone!
you know the darkside and are extremely helpful.

i'm sure someone will read your post and be grateful to you for the additional info that they can use.

Almost every public school in the state of Florida K-12 (and many of the private schools!) have the Friday before MLK off for a Teacher's Workday, as it is the end of the semester. Went to Disney last year, will probably do Universal parks this year. Disney wasn't as crowded as it could have been, but they were not expecting so many Florida residents!

Staying onsite with Front of the line privileges shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks mac. You do exactly the same thing. It's a good thing they pay us so well or it almost wouldn't be worth the effort!!!!:rotfl2:
