Were going on a MK Fireworks cruise this May. I've never done one of these so was hoping that some of those who have could answer a few basic questions. :earseek:

How far away from the fireworks are you? I know your on the Seven Seas Lagoon but how intense do the fireworks seem from there?

You see this is one of the surprises I have planned for my husband and I on our honeymoon. He does not know about it yet, but I'm a bit worried. He loves boats, water, and fireworks. But a few years back he was almost killed by a firework. Sadly a firework shot into the crowd in our hometown and killed a child I knew. He was directly in front of her and while he was not seriously injured, was burned slightly, and saw what had happened. I wont be more graphic than that.

Since then we have been to fireworks, and we have been to the MK fireworks on main street and he was fine there. Every fireworks show we have gone to has actually been at his insistence, and he seems to enjoy them. I also think hes 100% honest when he says he's completely fine and loves fireworks still, but I guess I can't help but worry. Perhaps I'm fretting, but do you think the fireworks cruise might be a bit much for him? Should I tell him and spoil the surprise and tell him so he can prepare himself for it?

Before you think I'm loony for even considering this, please note that the only reason I even considered surprising him with this was b/c he actually mentioned wanting to do the fireworks cruise. He even kept checking up with me to see if we had gotten one. Me being my clever self told him they were all booked up so it could be a surprise for him. I was so excited about booking something he had wanted to do at first!!! But now I'm second guessing everything! From what I've already mentioned do you think he would be too caught off guard by something like this? Is it simply a pretty view or intense? Are they more intense from the water than from Main Street? I don't think they would be but since I'm not 100% sure I wanted to ask. Its our honeymoon so I want him to truly enjoy this.

Any ideas on sneaky ways to find out if he would get freaked out or not without actually spoiling the surprise? I'm at a total loss on how to be stealthy here. Also, what would you do in the same situation? Would you keep it a surprise or tell him? Thanks so much! :wizard:

I am glad to hear that your DH is ok.. what an experience. I too booked the MK Fireworks cruise last year. Slpit the boat with another family I found on the DIS. I was so looking forward to this and thought that it was the most amazing thing that I have ever heard. Well it was not....IMO you are to far away to really appreciate the show.... you do not hear the music..the CM said that they are working on getting the music to the boats. The larger boats, have the music but the pontoon boats to not. Then there is the weather factor. We had an on and off rainy night and it really was cloudy which made it even harder to see.

Hope that you make the right choice... good luck.

I don't blame you for being concerned. I surprised my DH with a Wishes cruise last April for his birthday. We loved it. I guess I didn't realize the weather factor. kfw2dad I hope you try again. We had a great captain and really loved the tour part around the 7 seas lagoon. We did have sound on our pontoon boat. The fireworks were gorgeous, but the booms were soft because of the distance. We are going back agian this April. I thought it was one of the best things we ever did at WDW.

Enjoy your honeymoon, congratulations! :bride:

First, thank you both so much for the feedback. DH is a water nut so Im sure he would have been happy with just a boat, even without music or fireworks. :) To him those are going to be the extras. Thats odd that there was no music for you though kjwdad2, the CM I spoke to said the boats have music? Gotta love the inconsistencies!

From the sounds of it, if your that far away I'm thinking DH will be fine. I keep reminding myself that it was his idea in a way b/c he suggested it originally, but what can I say? I worry too much. Its hard for me not to though, our friend who was with him when this happened is scarred from the experience. He can't go near fireworks shows and jumps at any loud sound now. Seeing him react this way has made me wonder if DH was being macho and saying he was fine with fireworks when he really was not. That wouldn't be like him, to say one thing and think another, but one can't help but worry ya know?

It looks like its time for some serious stealth maneuvers. Heres the plan! I can "let him see" the disboards Illuminations thread, say I'm looking for a fireworks cruise for us to share (conveniently not find one), and just ask him directly. Hopefully that wont arrouse too much suspicion. Key word being hope, hes too clever for his own good sometimes!

I think you're a great DW for worrying about this, but the most telling thing to me is that he asked if you guys could do this. With that, I wouldn't worry about it. His friend may still be spooked and that's fine, but it doesn't sound like DH is if he is asking to do this. I say go and enjoy!

If he is fine on main street, he will have no trouble on the cruise - it is much farther away.

I actually appreciated the magnitude of the Wishes fireworks more from the cruise - you can really see how many go up at once.

The fireworks actually go off over and behind the castle. If someone is on a boat in Seven Seas Lagoon, I would think it was much less of an impact than if you were inside MK. I wonder what's the attraction of a night cruise where you are far away from the fireworks? Sounds like something I would rather do in the daylight to check out the lagoon, instead of paying extra to see fireworks from that distance.

I have always wanted to try the Illuminations cruise, but wondered if you were covered in ashes by the time it's over!
