MK Firework Dessert Party

Wow - I'm feeling like I'm no help! It was so hot I can't imagine having had coffee so I didn't even look. I did ask my son about the milk and he said he didn't see any either.

I have an update if anyone is going with dairy/lactose intollerance. I sent an e-mail to special diets asking what might be available for my niece and got a reply.

Most of it is the regular pre-packaged desserts, but they also have Snickerdoodles, Tofutti in both Chocolate and Vanilla, Rice Dream and a Raspberry Tart-same as on the buffet table and fruit.

I will keep this reservation as there are lots of things for my niece to eat.

I would contact special diets to make sure that these items or similar ones are available for your ADR.

I think the point of saving tables for walk ups is that they don't sell them in advance so the 24 hour cancellation policy wouldn't apply to these tables since they are nit available to book in advance on their system.

That being said, does anyone have experience with walk ups?

Oh. My understanding, from the CM, was there was only walk ups IF they didn't pre-sell all of the ressies. It doesn't make much sense not to sell all the tix you can....ahead of time. Why take the chance of not selling out?

I see...in my original post I was asking because the CM said that the dessert party is one of the few things that they actually hold tables specifically for walk ups. She may not be right (I've had a lot of CMs who don't know what they're talking about when it comes to this dessert party) but if it is true it's worth looking into. I also may have my hotel concierge continue to check for me throughout the week once we've checked in.

So disappointed!! I was away this weekend so today was the first day I could call for reservations. They had nothing available for my entire trip (10/2-10/8). I called back tonight after reading this thread about unchecking the box and the CM said "Oh, no, I know that." Then I wanted to be doubly sure so I called back and said I wasn't staying on property so they wouldn't tie it to my reservation at all, and still no luck. This is a "foodie" vacation so it would have been a great addition, so I'm really bummed.

I feel your pain......this would have made a great addition to a "foodie" vacation.

Keep trying back, though...you never know what might open up! pixiedust:

I've had the best luck with last minute cancellations. Here's some pixiedust: Good luck!!!:goodvibes

It never hurts to call in the meantime...you never know!!

Just a quick reply - got home late last night and are still trying to find the house, laundry, etc! :rotfl:

We went primarily to meet others and there were many parties of TGM and DIS'ers. For anyone else there, my son was the one in his DIS shirt handing out small flashlights and glow light bracelets to all the kids! I ended up just sitting and socializing and missed meeting a lot of people. There was plenty of ice and the drinks were cold and the snacks were all good and cold. Liked the mousse desserts and the fruit (which seemed refreshing in the heat). Sorry, but all of us at our table thought the Mango Shooters were HORRIBLE! They looked so good but were way too bitter for us.

Check in only took a couple minutes - maybe 10 people in line ahead of us when we got there around 8:05 for our 8:15 time. Just long enough for them to check the list and put on wristbands. Food was all ready and there were never lines at the buffet that I saw. The castle was beautiful there and it was a lot of fun. With two of us I think it was definitely worth it and a great time. I probably wouldn't do it again, especially with a family of 5 and the new, higher cost, but we wouldn't normally do Wishes at all since we're definitely early to bed, early to the parks folks! If you plan to do it anyways, it's much better than sitting on the curb for an hour and the view can't be beat and the food is just the added bonus!

I'll be glad to answer any specific questions!

Thanks!!! :thumbsup2 My dd was given a flashlight Friday night and she thinks it is so cool. Dh isnt really into meeting people so we didnt really meet any disers or tgm's but had alot of fun!

The buffet was fun 9very tasty, love the mango shooters!) and it was nice to just step up to the rail for the fireworks. We were lucking enough to do the illuminations mickeys moms party Sunday and then this on Friday for 2 great fireworks views.

I went on Tuesday, August 25th. It was wonderful. It wasn't crowded. Maybe because it was pouring down raining? The fireworks were fine in the rain but Tinkerbell didn't fly. :(

Loved the brownies and creme brulee. Daughter loved the mango shooters.

don't know if this has been shared, but i am at least 20 pages behind due to being in wdw...

i spoke w/the dessert party manager (gigi, ironically enough) when we were there on 8/26 and she told me it was going to be re-extended beyond the 10/31 date 'til the end of the year... it will be closed in january to install ceiling fans as it does get hot under there... they are expecting a price increase (drat, it was the best bargain on property!) and it will soon be available on the dining plan pending when they can get the computer system updated to include it... that may or may not be before the 1st of 2010...

btw, we found it to be FABULOUS!! we had a party of 14 and they seated us at the tables closest to the railing... the platter of "safe" desserts gigi brought out for my peanut/tree nut alleric ds was amazing... so great that the other kids were jealous and she brought out a second platter for them to all share!!

my fave were the tiramisu and the mango shooters... the fresh berries were amazing! the flavored iced teas were soooo refreshing!

i will definitely do this party again!

oh, and gigi indicated also that it would be offered on party (MNSSHP and MVMCP) nights... but she didn't share the specifics of what guests would be included, if you would need party or just park admission, etc... sorry!

That's the same time as our ressie. :) Can't wait! Look for the lime green Mickey head on my purse. :)

*ALL* the reservations for the dessert party are for the same time... although they tell you 8:15, they started letting people in earlier when we were there... and all the desserts were already set up by 8pm :)

They told me that my ressie was for 8 and to be there by 7:45...do I need to rethink that then, and not worry about getting there that early?
:upsidedow

because there were some issues w/lines building in the early days of the dessert party, i believe they are suggesting that people arrive a little earlier... we walked in w/zero line at a few minutes before 8pm... if you arrive at 8pm, you will have a full hour to enjoy the desserts before the fireworks start... if you arrive after 8pm, you are just reducing the time you have for dessert...

Wishes was at 10 the night we went (Spectro night), so we did everything an hour later than you, but they started checking people in at 8:30, and people were lining up even before then. When they checked us in, they didn't really look at our assigned time, which was not till 9:05, they just found our name on the list and gave us bracelets. Then, they still didn't let people in until 9:00.

If anyone is interested, I will give my opinion. First, I would not do it again on a Spectro night. I had purposely booked a Spectro night, since the review I read said you could see the parade really well from the dessert party. So I though we would have a relaxing view of both the parade and fireworks without the crowds. It wasn't until after I had booked the party that I started seeing reviews that stated you could not see the the parade very much.

So when we checked in, I asked the CM if we could go watch Spectro once our bracelets were on, then come back as soon as it was over and have our desserts then. I was told that was fine. A different CM saw us start to leave and warned that if we were not right back for them to let us in right at 9:00 that the other guests would rush the dessert table and there would be nothing left if we got there much after 9:00. This made no sense to me when my seating time was for 9:05 and this was a buffet to watch a 10:00 event.

So DH and the kids and I found a place on Main street not too far from the Terrace, where we could see the parade. I spent the remainer of the parade going back and forth from Main Street to the Terrace, making sure there was still dessert there, so my family was able to see (most of) the parade and still get to the dessert party by 9:15. Not so relaxing for me.

There were still desserts when we got there, but I can see why there are reports of the desserts running out and not being replenished. I saw folks filling their plates like they hadn't eaten all day. Some took platters full of a single type of dessert back to their table. (They went uneaten). CM's were refilling the trays and putting them out on the tables very quickly, but they would disappear immediately. As long as we waited (less than a minute), a new tray would be out soon so we really had all we needed.

The desserts were very good- I loved the Tirimisu.

Wishes viewing was very good from where we stood at the rail. We were very dissapointed, though , that Tinkerbelle did not fly at all that night, despite our anticipation of seeing her fly right over us. It was very slighty raining, just barely, I heard no lightning, but I assume weather was the reason.

Now I would never, ever, want to compromise Tink's safety, and I know that we aren't even guarenteed Wishes will happen, much less that Tink will fly. But it still was very disappointing for myself and my kids, who thought she would be so close for this special event.

I was at the Mickey Mom's club Illuminations party last week as well, and honestly, that seemed much more organized and less stressful. Maybe because it was free, so my expectations were lower. And of course the Wishes desserts were fancier, but honestly, my kids liked the Illumionations rice crispy treats, ice cream, and popcorn better than the fancy puddings and such at Wishes.

We attended the dessert party in July by walking up. Well, we actually purchased the tickets about 2 hours prior to the start time directly from a cashier at Tomorrowland Terrace. We were a party of four. I think they had quite a few cancellations due to a storm passing through. Spectro ended up being cancelled, but Wishes went on as scheduled. I'm hoping for similar luck when we return in October, although the price increase is a little hard to swallow.

now here's a question:
with the fireworks cruises, they changed the name to speciality cruises to cover their backs on the odd times they needed to cancel the fireworks.
with this being listed as the wishes dessert party, what happens if the fireworks are cancelled?

This is really interesting, as I too wish too watch SPECTRO from Main Street before going up to the dessert party.

So do you think it is bett just twatch SPECTRO and arrive for the dessert party 'late' (I was told by CM that they hold your res for 20 minutes past the res time - so that would mean we could watch spectro without losing our pre-paid res)

OR

Is it best to check in first, then go and watch SPECTRO? Although this would be tight as Spectro is 8pm, and my check in is 8pm, so It would be a quick dash to get to Main Steet before the parade reaches that part of the park - and hope there is a viewing spot.

Finally - do we all need to check in, or can one person do it for all of us. Iwas thinking about getting a viewing spot on MAIN STREET, then one of us poping up to check in, saying that we would all be up shortly - so at least they knew we were coming.

We are not a greedy family, so as long as desserts run throughout the buffet (8pm until 9pm) as they should, then this would be fine for me - I would not be piling my plate up, and just taking what i intended to eat, then go back for more I so desired.

Finally, just an opinion, but if a cast member said to me that all the buffet might be 'gone' at 9pm, and I had a 9:05pm reservation, then I would complain and ask for my money back - I would also report the CM for being awkward and ridiculous. It seems that he/she was just trying to put obstacles in your way.
