Mixing booster shots???

I got a Moderna booster yesterday after 2 Pfizer shots.

It's been kinda rough, not gonna lie.I had no side effects from my first 2 shots. Like, none.

My arm KILLS. It seriously hurts so badly, all the way down to my wrist. I have a knot and hot welt at the injection site. I feel achy and like I have a fever, but I don't. Took some Tylenol at the 24 hour post vaccine mark. Helped with the body aches.

I was prepared to not feel great, but I'm still glad I got the booster and I'm encouraged by the reportedly slightly better protection afforded by mixing and matching.

This is my worry. I am totally prepared to be in bed on Saturday.

My daughter got her booster on Saturday. She got Moderna for all three. She said she woke up shivering, head ache, back ache, and nauseous. She said it wasn't as bad as the after the second dose. But since Moderna booster is a "half dose" that makes sense.

I got the Moderna shots over 6 months ago. They were pretty nasty for a day after each one. I am planning on getting a booster but I'm not sure where. I just took my 11YO for the second juvenile Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination yesterday at Kaiser. We're not Kaiser patients, but they take anyone and didn't even ask for proof of insurance. But yesterday they didn't accept walk-ins all day, but our kid got the first vaccination 3 weeks ago and the return date (had no time though) on the back of the vaccination card was acceptable as showing up for an appointment. But they did have Moderna and adult Pfizer-BioNTech, but there didn't seem to be that many getting those compared to all the juvenile vaccinations. I was hoping to get a booster but without walk ins they wouldn't do it.

Our local school district is requiring full vaccination for in-person learning, but that's for kids who are 12. So all the vaccination of the kids under 12 is voluntary. I'm not sure how if works when my kid turns 12 - whether or not the juvenile sequence qualifies for the requirement.

I mixed mine - I just chose which one I wanted when I made the appointment. I'm actually not sure if it was "approved" yet, to be honest, but no one asked.

I did Pfizer first round and Moderna booster. I reacted to 2nd dose and booster, though booster reaction didn't last as long other than a painful arm for a couple days. My DH is getting his booster tomorrow and is doing Moderna as well.

I've been having stomach pains on and off all day, but no nausea. It's more like a deep ache in my core, if that makes sense. I actually almost turned on the heat today, but managed with a space heater. I was freezing all morning.

I think I'm also developing "covid arm" as my injection site has turned quite itchy and there's a welt about the size of a quarter there now. I totally forgot about that phenomenon. It's not a thing with the Pfizer shot.

Both my DH and my DD got that welt. (They both got Pfizer boosters; I got a Moderna booster and didn’t get one - go firgure.) DH’s was pretty large. We put some cortisone cream on them and they went away in a few days.

DD finally managed to score an appointment for today. She has to travel an hour there and back. This after two weeks of searches and checking the pharmacy of every store she went into to see if they take walk ins. Here, they’re up for grabs so our plan was to run her up to Walgreens when she is home next week if all else failed. I’m glad she’ll be getting it before she gets on that plane. I forgot to ask her which she is getting, she had said she’ll take whatever she can get. I did not mix and only had a sore arm and mild fatigue for one day with Pfizer.

Got sick and a fever after all 3 Moderna shots.
What I question is why people are afraid to feel sick from it since the stronger the reaction the better its working to protect you.
This is misinformation.

Your physical response to a vaccination compared to another persons lack of reaction does not in anyway mean that it is working better for you than the person with no physical reaction.

Vaccine side-effects shouldn’t be taken as a measure of the effectiveness of the vaccine. Despite the varied immune response to vaccines, most people achieve immunity against the coronavirus on vaccination, regardless of the presence, absence and severity of side-effects.

I agree; any medical professional I’ve talked to say the same. My first was AstraZeneca and I had absolutely no reaction; I barely even felt the shot go in. It did not shake my confidence about the vaccine’s efficacy. I get an annual flu shot and never have side effects beyond a sore arm and fairly recently had a tetanus shot which hurt like the dickens but produced no reaction. It didn’t even cross my mind to worry that they weren’t working.

I had no side effects with the 2 Pfizer or the Moderna booster.

Yeah - the protection isn't directly related to any symptoms from the vaccination. But if one gets side effects it can be almost assured that one wasn't just injected with plain saline.

Our 11YO just got the second juvie vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech of course) and had no symptoms either time other than a little soreness at the injection site.

I have heard that people who have had Covid often have worse side effects, as their bodies are already primed to attack the virus. That's been true in my family - only one sister has had Covid and she's had the worst side effects out of any of us. She said it's like having Covid again, just for a day or so.
She got the first round of vaccine only about a month after having Covid, so she's hoping it's not as bad with the booster (next week) since it's been a lot longer since being infected.

I believe that's been spoken about in the context of a 1st dose since normally that is considered a primer. To your body it's less like a primer since it "remembers" already.

:scratchin Is that something you seriously worry about when getting a vaccination?

Pfizer VAX, Moderna Boost here. My advice - KEEP MOVING! I was fine with all 3 shots but did start to feel very achy and feverish if I sat down and let it get to me. Once I got up and moved around again I felt better almost immediately. Gonna leave it to you to Google the efficacy, other than JUST DO IT!

OP here. I went ahead with my booster yesterday am and went with Pfizer for no particular reason. :rolleyes1
I initially had the Moderna series with thankfully few side effects. Just a few feverish feeling hours after the second dose.
Today I feel a bit feverish but am not running a temp. No sore arm or anything.
So far so good! :cat:

You never really know. There have been mistakes, including nurses injecting the entire contents of a vial that was supposed to provide 6 doses. Especially with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that's supposed to be diluted with sterile saline. There were some cases where a child got the adult version which supposedly is about 3 times as much. Granted my kid is 11 and larger than some 12 year olds, so the cutoff age for the youth dose would seem to be somewhat arbitrary.

But yeah there have been cases where plain saline was injected - either intentionally or by mistake. I don't say this as an alarmist, but it's just one of those little things that occasionally happens.

BERLIN, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Authorities in northern Germany appealed to thousands of people on Tuesday to get another shot of COVID-19 vaccine after a police investigation found that a Red Cross nurse may have injected them with a saline solution.
The nurse is suspected of injecting salt solution into people's arms instead of genuine doses at a vaccination centre in Friesland - a rural district near the North Sea coast - in the early spring.
"I am totally shocked by this episode," Sven Ambrosy, a local councillor, said on Facebook as local authorities issued the call to around 8,600 residents who may have been affected.
A North Carolina Walgreens mistakenly gave some people a saline injection instead of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Walgreens recently learned a “limited number” of people at a location in Monroe were affected and that the company has contacted them about the mistake, Rebekah Pajak, a spokesperson for the company, told McClatchy News in a statement Sunday.
The company did not specify how many people were affected or at which store the mix up occurred.

So, I had a ROUGH night last night. I was so achy and had alternating chills and hot flashes. Woke up drenched in sweat in the middle of the night. Woke up with a sore, scratchy throat and that phlegm-y feeling in the back of my nose/throat. I am wiped out and have been dizzy all morning. Clearly I'm sick ON TOP of the vaccine side effects. What terrible timing, huh? It does explain why I felt so awful though. I was a but surprised about how badly these "side effects" were hitting me, considering the Moderna shot isn't fundamentally that different from the Pfizer ones where I had NO reaction.

I did take a Covid rapid test this morning, which was negative. I guess this makes cold #3 for me this year.

My arm pain is significantly better, so at least there is that.
