Mission Space??

My DH is fine on most rides, but now he is getting older (bless him), can't stand any rides that spin very fast, like the teacups. Just wondering if he will be OK on Mission Space or should he avoid it? Don't want any embarassing mishaps?

He's fine on rollercoasters, its just the spinny-type rides he cannot do.

I would say if the teacups are a no then unfortunately MS would be no either - lots of spinning

Mission Space spins you very fast and the screen you are looking at tells you that you are going up. I did not do this because of the spinning but DH did it and felt quite disorientated for quite a while afterwards......

I didnt really notice the "spinning" sensation on MS, although I did know in advance that this was how they created the G Forces in the ride.

I would compare it more to being dropped from the biggest, tallest steepest coaster in the world..but in reverse, as you are propelled "upwards" to simulate a launch. To be honest, this is the only part of the ride that I found really intense, the rest was a lot tamer than I thought it would be. I definately didnt notice the spinning at any point, but I guess we are all different!

I can't stand the spinning tea cups, and dread it when my kids plead for me to go on them, they always make me feel quite ill (the tea cups not the kids, although.....!!)

However I thought mission space was FANTASTIC.

The first time I was really worried about the spinning, but once on the ride I didn't notice it at all. I did exactly as the CMs said which was keep watching the screen in front and to keep your head back against the headrest. I never took my eyes off the screen in front not even daring to blink. Wouldn't recommend doing it more than twice in a row as I did start to feel a bit wobbly after the second time.

If your husband suffers travel sickness or feels ill after doing the simulator rides like Star Tours, I would give it a miss.

There are sick bags on this ride. I noticed that if you kept your head looking straight ahead and didn't look to the side the spinning feeling would go. I wouldn't miss this ride, it was amazing. We were told that Nassa had gone to try this ride out when it opened and they said Mission Space was the nearest that the puplic would get to going into space.

DH and my dad gave this a wide berth after reading the warning sign's.but then again they did feel quite sick after the tea cup's and cat in a hat ride.

I no longer go on the tea cups as they are guaranteed to make me feel nauseous - although I've never been physically sick.

I had serious thoughts about MS but I love space so I was determined to go on it. I followed all the instructions exactly and came out feeling fine.

I rode it twice with no ill effects but I have seen others saying it's made them nauseous for hours.

I think if you suffer from motion sickness you would be in for a rough ride on this one from what I have read. We are trying it for the first time in July. DH isn't going on it because he does suffer, he was tempted to go on when he found out about the sick bags but I didn't fancy sitting next to him if he threw up.

I get sick on spinning rides, but I had to give Mission Space a go anyway.
Within a few seconds of take-off I knew I had made the wrong decision. I kept my breakfast down (just!) but I was a strange shade of green for 3 or 4 hours afterwards.

I'm glad I did it the once, but I won't be repeating the experience.

Being of robust constitution and loving coasters, simulators etc, was keen to ride Mission Space.

Have now been on MS twice - first time felt wretched both during and after but thought it was because I had pulled the restraint bar down too far. Next time I left the bar with a little breathing space - I felt worse !!!

The visual sensations are great - if you do suffer motion sickness beware - it will test your food retention capabilities.

i would say, of all the rides i went on back in July 2003, Mission Space was the best !!!

Just a shame its all over so quick.

Definately worth a go. My wife suffers terribly with motion sickness but was determined to try this. She loved it and wants to go on it again in November. None of us noticed the spinning, just the G-Forces.

I suffer terribly from sickness, but I was determined to give it a go - being a would-be-astronaut-if-everything-was-equal-kind-of-way! A cast member in one of the shops persuaded me to go on it and gave me the advice to completely focus on the screen and not move your head. I was so focused that I forgot to press my button at the right time, but had the most amazing experience. I was fine whilst on it, but afterwards took a long time to re-orient myself - had to go inside a cool building and drink! But I am so glad I went on it! One other word of warning though - the cabin is quite cramped. You actually don't notice the spinning and the "view" from the viewscreen is amazing - you actually feel like you are in space. Awesome!

I went on this ride last year, and was very impressed....I had no idea how they simulated the G-forces but they feel very real ! I would be very interested to read any background information on it if anyone has any links ?
