My DH has a bad back and was told by his dr. to avoid roller coasters that might whip him around. He didn't give a clear answer on smooth coasters like Space Mountain but my DH said he won't ride to be on the safe side. My question is about Mission Space. He is dying to ride it and I was wondering if it will be too rough.I know that it spins but does it jerk the back at all? I really don't want him to do anything that he'll regret but I know he would really love to ride this since he is a space enthusiast.

It does spin, but, you are not aware of the spinning if you keep your eyes forward and open. It does do some evasive moves but, not as bad as Star Tours.

I wouldn't call it "jerky". There are some unusual effects, but it is not a bumpy kind of ride.

I haven't been to WDW yet but I have a bad back to and with this ride I'd be concerned about any pressure on my back caused by the g force. Normally it feels really good when I'm in a car for example and it accelerates, for me it's a bit of relief. However I don't know how I would feel if the acceleration were as strong as if I were on this ride, or how I would feel when it was over once the pressure was gone. Hopefully your husband will get to ride and have the ride of his dreams :wave2:.

I am over 50 and I got more problems with my back than I could mention here.

Anyway, I rode Mission Space and the ride does not put any pressure on your back what so ever. It is a strange ride, but neat, no pains .

I have to tell ya, I was worried though, but, I just had to try it and I am glad I did.

My husband has a bad back from a wreck (he broke 2 vertebrae) and he went on Mission Space in July 2003. He never complained about pain and said it was a great ride. ::yes::

Same here, my DH had three vertebrae broken in his back years ago and it bothers him still at times. He loved Mission to Space and rode it several times. Your DH should have no problems with it...:)

I've also got back problems and it didn't bother me at all.

I found Mission: Space to be much, MUCH smoother than Space Mountain. :)

I wouldn't go on Mission to Space if I suffered from motion sickness on simulator rides (I don't usually, but felt pretty green on Mission), but I can't imagine that it would be hard on the back. Not a jerky ride at all.
