Mission space motion sickness question

If I remember right, Bonine is the same ingredient as the less drowsy Dramamine. Not sure what the drowsy dramamine would do to me, but the non-drowsy stuff knocks me off my feet for 24 hours. We're talking all I want to do is sleep. Not good! Does the same thing to my DH and my daughter.

I got my ginger capsules at GNC. They used to make a concentrated formulation, which was great--little strong capsules. They stopped making them and I have to take twice as many of the non-concentrated. Basically take one or 2 in the morning and follow up with another one or 2 mid-day. If your local pharmacy doesn't carry it they should be able to order it.

The only side effect is "ginger breath". :rotfl: I also take it whenever I'm feeling a little sick at home. It's a Chinese remedy and it does seem to help.

Make sure if you do try Bonine, etc that you try it out at home first.

I see you've gotten lots of opinions and good advice... but here's our experience.

My DH -- very sensitive, can't look at anything inside the car... gets sick on Body Wars BIG TIME, and hates Star Wars -- rode MS and did okay. He said he felt a little "off" but not sick. (Can't do Dramamine... puts him to sleep.)

My Best Friend -- can't ride anything that spins with out tossing cookies -- rode MS and was really glad she did. She felt a little queesy but didn't get sick.

Me -- spinning is no problem, but I'm the biggest ride chicken you ever met -- rode MS and really enjoyed it, inspite of it being the most intense ride I've ever been on in my life.

All three of us are VERY glad we did it ONCE. Don't think I'll do it again, but I'm SOOOooo glad I didn't miss it! It was AWESOME to the max!!

BUT... definitley go in and at least stand in line. Even if you chicken out there is a cool room at the end, (after you get off or when you walk through after skipping it) that is lots of fun. There are simulators there... kind of a game it's lots of fun! We spend time there every time our DS9 (who loves MS) rides.

So, good luck -- and my advice... be brave and go for it!
I'm sending you Pixie Dust!! :wizard:

I agree with the others about the retrun trip from mars-very happy it was over. I actually experienced a tightening in my chest. I also will not ride it again. it was cool, but once is enough! :earseek:

I HATED MS!! I won't ride it again and my 4 yr old DS won't be riding it either. I took Bonine every day on my trip (I'm prone to motion sickness). I didn't get motion sick really, but I got a horrible headache and went to the first aid station for asprin. I was riding solo and was in the same "car" as a couple and their friend. The girlfriend was very nervous and the two of us were sharing anxious feelings and laughing before we got on the ride. I almost backed out at the last minute but decided to butch up. Well, I literally gritted my teeth the entire ride. I kept my eyes open, as advised, and hated every minute of it!! I could TOTALLY tell I was spinning and it was NOT a good feeling. When the ride was over the other lady who was nervous before the ride was actually in tears. It was quite a drama. ;)

I've never *hated* a ride before... but I'll never go on MS again. YUK!!! :guilty:

Is mission space the ride at Epcot. I think it is the one I was scared to go on because you are shut in a capsule. I am very clauster phobic and didn't know what to expect. But they had cold air blowing on you. so i didn't feel panicy. I just loved it and rode it several time. We leave in 2 weeks and am anxious to ride soarin. never have.

I rode Mission Space in April and got very seasick! It didnt help that we just had hot dogs in Germany! When we went back in October I skipped Soarin as some people said they got a motion sickness while on it. But when we go back I may try Soarin, but not Mission Space again!

Used to be able to ride absolutely everything, bring on the tea-cups. Unfortunately, I've developed neck problems & an episode of vertigo after having a virus a few years ago:sick: .

I have to judiciously pick & choose my rides, anything too violent & I'll need muscle relaxants for days.

My personal picks & misses:

Luv MS - didn't know we were spinning (kept waiting for it to begin LOL). The sensation was one that I've never experienced - fantastic. Did feel odd after the ride, but it disipated by the time we walked thru the building...can't wait to do it again in Dec.

I can tolerate the motion simulator @ Star Wars, but thought Body Wars was ridiculous...even my family said it was unnecessarily rough.

IMO Dinosaur wasn't worth the jerky ride either.

Can't wait to try out Soarin (even though I do have a fear of heights)...from all reports it's a gentle ride.

Waiting for the scoop on Everest, not crazy about the idea of a roller coasters that go backwards. Wonder if it's a roller coaster, wild-mouse type, or moving simulator with movement?

I do not enjoy spinning rides (although Tea Cups is not bad). Did not like Men in Black AT ALL. Been on Star Tours enough times to know that I don't need to ride it again. Same with Body Wars (RIP). But I had to go on M:S. DD13 went on it twice - she can ride anything - and said I had to do it. So I did. Followed the instructions (DD, however, was all over the place - pointing and looking around). I had no problems with M:S. I won't ride it again - been there, done that, don't tempt fate - but I didn't get motion sickness. And, as my mother will happily tell anyone - I got motion sickness a lot in my youth :confused3

Geez, neither I or my Mom or sister have any problems with M:S. It's a great ride. Looking left and right etc hasn't bothered me in the slightest when I'm on it. We have such a great laugh pressing all the other buttons as well as the correct ones. I'm sure the CMs watching must have such a great laugh at us trying to be astronauts. But anyways, what has only been mentioned once or twice so far is the SUSTAINED g-forces which are the most obvious thing about this ride making it different from other rides with transient g-forces (coasters etc). Not so much the spinning - after all, your brain is deceived into not realising it is spinning by the screen in front of you. Be aware that the G-forces are strong, and I imagine it takes people to breaking point in some cases.
Please tell me that there are other people out there who don't have problems with M:S or was I just born an astronaunt and never realised it?? LOL

Glad you mentioned the G-forces as that's the part I'm interested in finding out about. When you say "sustained" how long are you talking about? I'm kind of a ride chicken and still can't decide about M:S.

I have read off the horror stories and I can tell you that nobody in my family will be riding this ride. My husband is very prone to motion sickness. I can handle it better than him, but I don't want to ruin my day and be sick after riding it. To me it is not worth it for one ride. We will be skipping it completely.
