So scary about so many convicted sex offenders living in this area (just checked my area on the familywatchdog site). Now I don't have any kids, but I would be keeping them close right now.
I walked home alone when I was that age, and I don't think times are any different except that there is more media coverage of these things. Child abductions and murders have always happened and sadly they always will.
As far as her walking home ( i do not know how far) she was with her Twin Brother an older sister. Apparently had a fight and she allegedly ran ahead.
They said they lost sight of her.........
When they got home, (no adult home) she was not there and they went to find her.....
I'm sorry I feel this way, but my "gut" is saying something is up with this whole scenario.......it is just so very very sad that this child was murdered...it is just plain horrifying!!!
(I heard on the news this am that the dad did identify the birthmark)
This poor family, my heart aches for them all!)

This bothers me, not that you mentioned it, but the fact that the news keeps stating this. Just because one is a convicted sex offender, it does not mean that their crime was against a minor. To say that area had xxxx amount of registered sex offenders does nothing but scare parents into thinking that they are surrounded by people who could do something like this. I hope the ones who are concerned check out their counties website and look at just what the offense was before they assume that they are all child molesters.
My mom and her siblings walked to/from school in a small town but that was over 45 years ago. No way would she have ever let me do that...too many weird people out there now and the town she grew up in was considerably smaller than it is today.
I mean I walked to and from bus stops too, but I'm 40 years old and things were different then. I also did not start doing that til I was in the sixth grade, so I was 11 years old.
I'm a mother now and this story just scares me to death. I just know that until my son is of the "proper" age, I will drive or meet him wherever he goes.
