Miss Shirley's Baskets?

It's good to order about two weeks ahead, unless it's one of Shirley's busiest times. THen I'd order a little sooner. I ordered six baskets for our trip in September to the Southern Caribbean, and Shirley was great. SHe is such a sweetie. I paid about $300, but that was because I knew our trip was much longer than the usual ones, and I, too, didn't want to pack the sand toys and snacks and drinks for in the room. We used up pretty much everything. I have great pics, but haven't uploaded them anywhere so I can't post them. I'd LOVE to see one of the pirate chest ones. Thanks again, Shirley!!

ETA: my cost also included three of the port delivery charges of about $12.50, I think. Shirley tied two baskets together for each room so I'd only have to pay that charge once for each set. They won't let her tie more than two together, though. I, too, ordered the big sand pails for three kids, and a basket or bag for my DH, my mom and sister and BIL. We were out for 11 glorious days, and the drinks in the room and water for the excursions were awesome to have without weighing down my other luggage or taking up valuable space!

Thanks to all of you for your information. I can't wait to see what kind of ideas Shirley will have for my DD 13 and DS 16.

First off HEY PHYLLIS. MARY, CINDI, LISA AND EVERYBODY TOO MANY TO MENTION - hope everyone and yours have had an good entry into 2007 - mine and Norm was very "interesting" - I and had new great grandbabies born and both were girls so this makes my 10th great and Norm's 1st great (we do include his, mine and ours together in one bunch when talking though), Norm's bones have been acking and my hearing is trying to go, but I won't let it. The golden ages aren't what is cracked up to be and the only thing golden about it is your "water" (that is saying it nicely) - we still work 7 days a week and still young enough to play. You all know Nona is my right arm that helps me in all capacities. She is great and very talented and in fact she is the reason, Norm and I can play a little more.
Now about the baskets - the website can not hold all that we do - it would be impossible - there are so many ways Nona and I can go - The Treasure chest are cute and can be dressed up so many ways - maybe when my son Michael comes back to town, he can take a picture of one of them and put it on the site or maybe someone has one they can post - I love the treasure chest especially for the boys but then we girls can sure be tigers when we need to be.
Anyhow just wanted to stop by and say good morning, have a great weekend, stay warm or stay cool whereever you are - stop and enjoy what you are doing and take time to be nice to yourself - you count also.
Hugssssssssss to you and you and you
Love ya
always
Shirley

I've got one of the pirate chests coming in three weeks. I'll post a pic. Ofcourse, that's an ETERNITY from now. ;)

Baskets look great!

Here are some pics of the pirate baskets Shirley made for my kids this past Dec.. They LOVED them! There is also a pic of the sand pail she made for our youngest ds who is 2. He loved all the treats that were in it and the sand toys really were a big hit at cc and in the bath tub!!

Ok.. cruise newbie question here!!

I am a lil' confused as to why everyone packs so much food/snacks/drinks in their baskets? I thought the food was so plentiful onboard? Are you packing these to bring onshore? I guess i can understand bottled water (assuming they don't have any on the ship), but i guess i *thought* that there was so much food onboard that you can get what you want when you want it...
Although, i am guessing there is no candy onboard -- from the looks of these baskets!!! LMAO!!
Help!! I am cruising this year, and want to make sure i put the right stuff needed in my basket for my dd! LOL

Hello again Stacy!
I think the idea of the candy in the basket is for the shows and movies. From what I have read, the candy is pricey on the ship....

I love the idea of a basket to heighten the excitment when you enter your cabin! Who doesn't love to get a present!

I have also read that you can include beach toys in the basket to avoid having to pack and carry the items.....you can even just leave them on the beach!!

I'm a newbie too to DCL......but have spent way too many hours on the Dis!!:scared1:

Thanks Jackie!!
That's sort of what i figured..

I will probably put some beach toys in her basket, as well as some snacks (she LOVES peanut butter cups!!) , but i am also wondering if she can put in DCL stuff - like a stuffed mickey or something..

Shirley has customized every basket that she has made for us. She puts in exactly which candies, drinks, etc that each recipient likes. We use the candies for the movies onboard the ship, and the drinks we take on excursions with us (she uses plastic bottles with screw tops so they are resealable). Some non-food items have been binoculars (which we ended up using a LOT since we had a verandah), single use cameras, underwater cameras, Mickey Mouse ears (I had all of us pose for a picture by one of the ship's photographers, and we all wore our mouse ears. lol), snorkel gear, etc.

I'll add my most recent pictures here: :3dglasses

I ordered 2 from her yesterday..

and had no snacks put in.. they are both "princess" themed.. and she had the best ideas.. with beach/pool toys and a princess beach towel. We have a store stop planned on our way to the ship so we'll pick up bottled water and a few snacks then. Food is plentiful on the ship. We love room service. Miss Shirley is so nice and the moment you speak with her or her trusty right hand.. you will immediately feel at ease and she is very good at capturing your ideas and making them reality.

I have seen pictures of some of her work (there are several threads here regarding Miss Shirley and I saw stuffed Mickey and Minnie Mouse)

The basket my sister bought for me had a stuffed Tigger and Tigger beach towel, 8 cans of diet root beer (not available on the ship), Cheetos (not available on the ship), Tigger pez dispenser, Tigger mug, Tigger pen, party hat and horn and chocolates. It was in a large orange metal 'tub'...very cute. I know there's a picture of it somewhere....I'll hunt it down and post it.

I just wanted you to know that your basket made such a hit while it was here at the shop and I could have sold it a number of times - when Norm took it to the ship, he was saying that it "stole the show" of baskets.
Maybe because it was such a bright orange and it seemed like everything blended together - glad you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

I asked Shirley about this and she says that she cannot put DCL merchandise in the baskets.
