We are thinking of going to Universal and staying onsite after our Disney cruise in June '08. Are all of the onsite hotels actually within walking distance to the parks? If so, how long of a walk? Is there a bus or tram if you didn't want to walk?

Also, it seems that after reading other posts that the Hard Rock would be the best for 11 and 8-year old boys. Does everyone agree?

One more thing, I have also read posts on this but still felt that I had to ask because I just can't believe it-you don't need to make reservations at any of the restaurants??? Are there ever long wait times? We will be there in June. . .

All of the hotels are within walking distance with HRH being the closest and PBH being the farthest. There is both shuttle (bus) and boat (preferable) service to all 3 hotels. It is always a pleasant walk from all 3 hotels going to the park but the walk to RPR and PBH can be a bit daunting at the end of a day. Personally, I think kids would enjoy any of the 3 hotels so I would pick the one that appeals to you the most. Because of the proximity of the parks to CityWalk and the hotels, there are many more dining options and reservations are not as necessary. However, if you want to go to the most popular restaurants (Emeril's, Mythos), I would still make a reservation a few weeks prior to going.

agree with above post.... keep in mind, pool hopping IS ENCOURAGED altho RPR does NOT have a slide, the others do.

Also, I know it is hard to believe, but you do NOT have to figure where you are eating six months in advance. I will advise you that the restaurants at City Walk are usually busy with hour waits starting about 6-7pm...you CAN make ressies that day at kiosks at CW or either park too....or stop by sometime that day and do it yourself.... You will find UO vacations are very relaxing and very different from Disney....
