I realize at 18 he is no longer a minor, I meant to say underage. We were recently in Indiana and he was not allowed to be at the bar with us in a restaurant. This got me wondering if this could be the case in other places. It’s not an issue where we live. Thanks for the reply.18 is not a minor, although they are underage for drinking. Doesn't matter, they can sit wherever they want so long as they don't order any alcohol
Wish I had know that in June, I would have called the guy out for it....There's no law in the state of Florida stating underage persons can't sit at a bar. The only law is that they are not to be served alcohol. I agree, if the bartender complains it is likely a space issue so maybe the underage guest could order some food or a non-alcoholic beverage. Some places do have their own rules - Space 220 is reportedly allowing only persons over 21 to walk up and sit at the bar, and Trader Sam's is 21 and up only after 8 pm. I don't know if Homecoming is one of those, but I don't believe they are, especially if the guest is not a minor.
Ya know this is a WDW forum right? The question wasn't about laws everywhere?Legal age varies by state. I don't know where the bar the OP is referring to is located. In Las Vegas, for example, you need to be 21 to drink/gamble at any of the casinos. If under 21, you can only walk through the casino on the way to somewhere else or your room if with your parents. Somewhere that is mostly a bar and happens to serve appetizers might have different rules then somewhere that is mostly a restaurant.
Yup, I realize that................the OP wasn't specific and the name given could have been a city as well as a place. Another poster referred to legal age which does vary by state.
We're from New England and a few years ago were only able to grab seats at the bar space at Flying Fish at Boardwalk for ourselves and two young (then preteen) sons. We asked if we were able to sit there with the boys. Server said "Yup. Welcome to Florida"

We went to Yak & Yeti with our then 10 year old DD and sat at the bar and to get drinks while we waited to be seated for dinner. The bartender made us move as he stated that our DD was too young to sit at the bar. For what it's worth not another sole was at the bar. We are from Wisconsin with some of the most lacks drinking laws (a minor may have an alcoholic drink with parent consent until age 18 then nothing until 21) so we have always sat at a bar and waited for dinner ressies at home. We were somewhat shocked that they wouldn't even serve her a kiddy cocktail at the bar with us. YMMV
Same here … I had even eatten at the bar at the Edison on the same trip, the bar tender as us to take a table and refused to service…. Manager was pretty useless… But the bar tender claimed it was a state law… Next night we at at the bar at one of Italian places….so it really depends who is working and how well the understand customer service. We're from New England and a few years ago were only able to grab seats at the bar space at Flying Fish at Boardwalk for ourselves and two young (then preteen) sons.
