Minor irritation (been a while since we had a peeve thread :))

I agree. A staycation is also not just staying home; you need to do vacation-type activities. I have a friend who keeps joking about her 5-month staycation. It's not a staycation when the only place you go is Publix and your back yard. I know I should be glad she's in good spirits about everything but it still gets on my nerves every time she says it. :)

A staycation is when you stay home and do vacation things.

Staying onsite at WDW but not visiting any parks is still a vacation - albeit a non-park one.

actually.....

The Irish Government is advising staycations this year, as in not leaving the island for summer holidays. The majority of Irish people before Covid would leave the island for their summer holidays.

Staying onsite at WDW is a staycation if you live locally.

Sometimes people do nothing on a vacation. It's a time to refresh. Except for the travel to/from the location, they will only eat, watch TV, read, sleep. Things that can be done at home, during a stay-cation.

And if you are a DVC member.....it is your home, right? At least according to Disney.

I think we all may have varying opinions on what a staycation is.

To me a staycation is staying home and relaxing. It may include some short day trips to visit local attractions. It is NOT staying at a hotel or traveling any long distances.

Ontario, Canada calling any tourist area in the province visited by an Ontario resident a "Staycation this summer."

Oh I don't know. I've put some nice facilities in my back yard. I'm trying to convince the spouse we could use a pool. But to no avail yet. I'm also still using the Weber as my smoker. I'd like one of those set it and forget it expensive pellet ones. But the pool comes first. It won't be a staycation until I get my pool!!!

If you are in a hotel or vacation home, even in your own city - that's a vacation.

:D
Not if you're there because a tornado destroyed your house.

I guess you're right; sometimes people use vacation time to relax. This particular friend of mine has been using the time to deep clean her house, power wash her driveway, go through everyone in the family's clothes and weed out stuff for Goodwill, clean the carpets, flip the mattresses, and untold other household chores. But maybe she finds this relaxing!

I had big plans when this all started to catch up on my scrapbooks. Well, they're still sitting there - not done.

I guess I'm on vacation.

I have managed to keep up with the dishes and laundry during this time, however.

To me a staycation is when you take vacation time but don't actually "go" anywhere. It could be sleeping all day, it could be day trips, it could be cleaning house...the key is as long as you are not leaving home to actually go stay in a hotel (or equivalent) somewhere, its a staycation.

Then there is my friend who always used to say he was going to "Verandah Beach`` lol
