This is not a tipping debate post - so would appreciate it not becoming one. ;)

Just got back from a long weekend at WDW. Used a Minnie Van three times, including one very long trip from BWI to MK as we navigated Princess Half traffic (so I took the opportunity to get nosy with my driver!).

The question of tipping Minnie Van drivers comes up quite a bit around here, so I wanted to relay what I was told by all three drivers.

I was told as of a few weeks ago (early Feb), Minnie Van drivers are now considered ‘tipped positions’ and can accept both cash tips and tips through the app (they were not eligible for tips before). If you tip through the app, it will eventually make its way back to that CM.

I did ask all three drivers, just in case I was being ‘sold’ a story by the first driver. :-) They all pretty much said the same thing.

If accurate, I think this is a better setup. To me it was confusing before - some would take cash tips, some would do the ‘refuse three times’ thing, tipping via the app was an unknown black hole. This puts things more on par with how Uber/Lyft operate when it comes to tipping, frankly.

Obviously tipping is a personal preference thing, but just passing along info for those so inclined. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this info.

So, if a guest tips the usual 20%, realizing that the tip is optional, a Minnie Van ride now costs $30.

Well I hope they didn't have to take a pay cut to be considered a "tipped" position.

At least there's a standard now.

For a regular Uber or Lyft driver, an in-app tip would be deposited in our bank account the following Wednesday.

But Lyft doesn't pay the MV drivers. They pay Disney, so any tips (which are accounted for separately) would have to work their way through Disney's payroll system to get to the driver. In addition, I don't think there is any way the driver could know which ride the tip came from.

So the better idea would be to tip them in cash. They'll get it right away, and they'll know which nice visitor gave it to them.

Appreciate that info (from a reliable source!). Pretty much matches the way the CMs described it as well.

Thanks for checking that out. I was wondering since I may use them
for waterpark transportation once or twice and didn’t want the awkward do I tip or not issue.
