The 5K last year was my first event. I have been going to the gym 3-4 times a week, but just started back on my running 2 months ago. I did 6.5 miles tonight at an average 15 min pace(4 miles running at 14 min mile and 2.5 miles walking to cool down at an 18 min mile). I am hoping to run the 15K this May.

My question is...for the people that did the 5 and 15k last year, would u recommend that to a new runner? did you get very tired out before the longer race?

I haven't done it, but I'm sure with the times you have already, you could complete it! It would fun!

Good luck!

postesf, I am a walker who did both last year. I was like you, in that I was concerned about doing both as I had just started doing these crazy races the year before. ;) If you are following a program that incorporates LR's once a week, you should be fine. As you are training now, your pace will pick up as you get conditioned. You want your pace to be a bit faster than 15 min, especially on the 15K..there are characters to see and people to manuever around! :) You experienced how crunched we got in places on the 5K...like the golf course..but it was fun! The 15K has more room, but more stuff to look at as you go through Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.

A lot of us started training with Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. Even those his plans are for doing a 1/2 or full marathon, they build you up to get you to the start injury free. He includes cross training and rest days. He has a schedule that incorporates walking/running that might be of interest to you for longer events. Whatever you do, stick with WISHers..we're here for ya!! :goodvibes

If you go to do the 15K, you have to do the 5K. Linda and I didn't feel like the 5K took much out of us even though we went out much faster than anticipated because of the 15 min cutoff. I felt more tired from celebrating Cinco de Mayo after the race in Mexico:thumbsup2 .

Last year the course was through DTD, SSR, and by OKW. That was cool as different course. This year is through EPCOT.

You will be fine by May. Good luck!
