I was interested in who would be walking the Minnie 15K.
So, I thought I would start a thread for that. I thought it would be helpful for those of us who walk and we could maybe hook up and walk with those that keep the same pace.:cool1:

 Me! I'm a walker! I've been the Final Finisher at my last three events. My pace for the 15K? A smidgen ahead of the sweepers, I HOPE!!:upsidedow Anne

And I'll be right there with you Anne! I will be just ahead of the sweepers!

I'm walking, though I may jog (downhill only!!!) if I panic and think I'm a little too close to the sweeps. (Do I detect a theme here, ladies? :) ) With as little training as I've had time for, I suspect I'll be something on the cusp of 15 mm -- maybe 14:49!

I will be in the back with 15 min walk. I be the one who looks like they are dying and thought this was a good idea 4 months ago. (I'll do anything to get to Disney World.):thumbsup2

im going to be a Minnie walker too... just a few steps ahead of the sweepers is my goal as well.

i had my first long walk (6miles) and my pace was a horrid 16:11. i have what, a few weeks to build up??? yikes!!!

I'll be attending the Minnie 15K too. It will be my first "anything K." I've been walking to lose weight since last July, but just started "training" April
1st. I always thought I was a fast walker, until I starting timing myself. I walked 5 miles yesterday (my longest so far) and my time was over 17-1/2 minutes per mile! Yikes! I wonder at what point they'll start sweeping. Certainly they won't sweep at mile marker 1 will they? I've heard that the first mile is slower because there's so many people (lots of congestion).

Thanks Christine... I have a hard time keep screennames and real names put together and I am alittle bit new around here. I just updated it again:thumbsup2

I am hoping to finish ahead of the sweepers. Thanks so much for starting this thread!

I have spent a lot of time this morning with my Dave McGovern book trying to figure out the best way to shave a few seconds off each mile to be sure I can finish in time!

I'm starting to panic!

Duckie (should I put your name as Duckie?), don't panic!!! You can do it!! I found wiht my one lesson that the arm swing is important and can help you to go alittle bit faster because you get a slingshot effect. Also doing little speed workouts in the middle of my walks helps. Like going from telephone pole to telephone pole as fast as a can and still feel comfortable (like doing sprints but your walking). Start out doing like 4 or so of these during a shorter walk. Then add a few more each time. I really don't try to do those on my longer walks. This has really helped me out this year. Dave's info is great, but sometimes can be ALOT of info at once. Try to pick a few things to start with and just concentrate on those. I find posture, foot roll and arm swing are important, but that is just me and I am no expert.

Thanks, Tracy. I've been doing speed work during my walks and also drills to work out my shins better. I don't want to get swept!

Yep, just list me as Duckie. :)

When is everyone going? I'm not driving up there until Saturday morning. I live in Fort Myers (SW Florida) and will be driving straight to the expo (will try to arrive when they open at 10am Saturday) to pick up my race packet. Not sure what time I can check into my hotel (Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort). Also bought a Disney ticket and I think I'll go to Epcot (I guess prior to going to the MEET at POR Food Court at 4:30pm). After we meet and eat at the food court, I will probably head to my hotel room to get to bed early. Guess I'll have to get up super early to allow time to check-out (want to check out prior to the race, because I don't want to have to "race" back after the 15K to check-out) and then drive to Epcot to catch the bus to AK. I think my hotel is near Epcot. Gotta figure all that out on Saturday - so I know where I'm going! What are your plans??

I will drive up from SE FL easrly Friday Morning. Get to hotel and check in (they say rooms aren't guaranteed for checkin until 3pm) Head over to Hollywood Studios. I have a ADR at Sci-fi at 11am. Then over to the WWOS to get packet. Buses leave from HS to the WWOS complex. Then if we didn't get into our room then back over there. We may do EPCOT later and check out Illuminations on Friday night, so as to not be out long on SAT night?? Then only thing planned for Sat is the meet at 4:30. I will check out Sunday after the race. check-out isn't until 11am, should be done around 8:45 latest, gives me enough time to at least take a shower and change clothes and then maybe back to the park. I also will probably have a trip over to DTD for some shopping. That's alot packed into 2.5 days but I can do it!!! :thumbsup2

 Hi everyone, I a walker and the Minnie 15K will be my first 'anykind' of race. I'm really looking forward to meeting fellow WISHers and FINISHING my first race. My last LW (10 miles) I averaged 14, and that was really pushing myself. I'm just looking to have fun, finish and not get swept.
Sharon

Wow Sharon. 10 miles is a LONG WALK especially considering it wasn't a race. Were you walking by yourself? Did you go all that way without having to use a bathroom? This will be my first any kind of race/k too. I'm alot slower though. My longest walk so far is 5 miles and my pace is over 17 minutes/mile! I'm determined though. I can't wait until the Minnie 15K!! Hope to see you there. Are you going to try to go to the Meet at POR Saturday at 4:30pm? I'm going to go if I can find it.

Hi!
I'm Michelle. This will be my first race... ever.
I am planning on running... but I know that I will probably only be able to do that for about .5 miles :rotfl2: , so I'll be walking a lot.

I'll be walking also. I can usually go a little faster than a 14:30, but for some reason I've been over a 15:00 for each of my 2 prior Disney races. They both had somewhat slower pace requirements so I will just have to step it up to get it below the required 15:00. I figure as long as I make it into Epcot (around Mile 8) without being swept, I should be OK.

Jeanne

Hi there! Another walker here. Goal is to finish ahead of the sweepers :goodvibes and I've managed 15 mpm last few long walks. I've got a 10K this coming Sat so going to see if I can push it a bit.

I'll be getting into CB Friday morning and plan on getting in a walk before lunch. Not sure what I'll do during the day. Want to get over to WWOS but won't have car until DH gets in at night. Have tickets to P&PP Friday! Anyone else?

Sat will likely hit Epcot until meet at 4.30p, early dinner then off for an early bed time. Just hope I can sleep! :rotfl:

Getting so excited!!
