Minnie 15k Walkers

:goodvibes Robert and Tracy- Thanks for all the advice, it helps to know what is acceptable.
Wahoo! Only 2 weeks! I will definitely be looking for all the Green Wish Shirts in the corrals.

Yesterday I had a great practice walk, 5 miles at 12.3 pace. Really fast for me, I think the excitement building up had a definite effect. I usually walk anywhere from 13.3 to 14.5, so I was pretty excited. I think it also helped that the 3 previous days had been very light workouts and I went out feeling very rested; ie. no heavy legs. :goodvibes

See you at WDW!

Hey Christine, how's it going with you?? Things are good with me. I did my Minnie on Sunday with an average pace of 14:29. I guess I'm good for the real thing when it happens. I'm excited and its coming up right around the corner. I took my orthotics to be recovered, I think after 3 half marathons and all the training up to them they needed it!!

Take care.

food wise, its been horrible.. you'd think id want to lose a few before Minnie...

i did my Minnie Sunday, and had a 16:02 pace... hopefully the excitement of the race will get me going.

im doing short speed work this week and maybe another Minnie Sunday then next week, just walking max 2-3 miles twice a week. nothing serious after Thursday.

i just dont wanna get swept ... :scared:

Hey everyone!
I'm doing my minnie tomorrow... 3 times around the lake.
I hope my time is OK. I have not trained at all for this race :/

:wave2:

I'm a walker and would love to hook up with other walkers :thumbsup2 My friends are runners and there is no way :sad2: I can keep up with them, therefore I'm walking alone.

My pace is approx 14.20, but my shines haven't been cooperating with me lately, so I'll need a pacer to help push me along. I'll be looking for the green shirts!

Ruth, glad to have you Walking with us. We will hang in the back corral and then see who you can stay with and at what pace. I think we will all do very well.

Yes, we are aiming for the front area of the last "corral" which would be where they have set up pace signs and we'll be in the 13:01-15min pace group. (There are 5 pace groups and they even say for walkers to be in the back pace group) Try to be near the front of that last pace group. Just remember from a previous post that we don't want to line up in a big group across. Only like two to three people across so as not to block those that want to pass. Also we'll want to stick to the middle to the right side, so faster people can pass on the left.
Of course you can line up where you want to and no one will really say anything, its just the people who pass you may be a bit on the mad side.

Hoep that helps.

OK.
So I walked/ran 10 miles today!! And I did it with only getting 4 hours of sleep last night!! haha. I had a sleepover. We didn't go to bed until 4:30 am.:happytv:
To go around the lake I live by is a 5k, so we went around it 3 times and then me and my friend (who's not doing the minnie...she just trained with me today) saw emergency vehicle lights (aka: there was an accident). Being the inquisitive person that I am, I decided to see what was going on... so we walked there and back (past roadkill :scared1: ew!!)
Then tonight I had a show (the Wizard of Oz). I'm a flying monkey, so my hips are killing me!!
I know for sure that I won't be wearing green because I don't have a lime green shirt, but I have lime green on my shoes:thumbsup2
Is anyone else going to the DC games concert the night before??

how are we going to meet up with each other?

im getting really excited! im doing race for the cure tomorrow (5K) then im going to try to get my last 15K in on Sunday... hopefully i'll be able to do it under 2h15min

We are just going to try to look for the WISH shirts. If you're there early I guess we could try to meet with all the WISHers, then slowly start to move over to the corrals. Walkers will be in the back corral and will try to be near to the front of that corral. I'll be there kind early with SamSam and her DH. We'll be over at EPCOT around 5:10-5:15 and then catch a bus over to AK.
Be looking for to seeing all the WALKERs and everyone else!!!:yay:

is it not possible for my DH to drop me off at AK or would it be best just to go to Epcot then bus it over?

It is possible to get dropped off at AK. Just remember that road closures will start, I think it said, 5:45am. Either way works, its just whatever you want to do. Some who are taking there own cars want to "park" them at Epcot so when you finish you just go to your car and you don't have to take a bus back over to AK and then find your car. It's whatever your preference is. The regular WDW transportation (buses, monorail, etc.) uaually don't start until an hour before the park opens. So, for Epcot that would be 8am since the park opens at 9am. If you are doing a 15min pace and the race starts at 6:15, you would finish around 8:40ish depending on how long it take you to cross over the start line. Hope that helps??

Has anyone ever been swept from one of these Disney races? If so, what were the circumstances?? Or, did the sweepers try to sweep you up and you "got away?" Again, what were the circumstances. I'm just very nervous because I can't seem to get any where near a 15 minute/mile pace. And, now, a co-worker wants to come with her kids to cheer me on at the finish line. Hope I make it. Also, at what point do they start sweeping? Do they start sweeping at mile marker 1? That would be so unfair.

I have not been swept, but then again I have only done half marathons with a 16min pace requirements. From what I have read on the Minnie team list it seems like most of the sweeping will be done before the parks. I am assuming that its harder to "sweep" inside the parks. I know that in the half and full marathons that a van follows everyone and if you get swept you go into the van and then at some point you get driven to the finish.
Maybe someone else would have a better answer.
Think positive though, you can do it!!

Well, I participated in a 5K Saturday evening. Not really a "race" though. It was the March of Dimes March for Babies. All the Family Teams got to line up first (I was thinking - great. Now I'm going to be behind some really slow people). We were required to stay on the sidewalk and everyone was walking 2-3 wide!!! It took forever for things to thin out. It ended up taking me 52 minutes! But, that's pretty good considering the slow start. They had water stations, but they were handing out BOTTLES of water. Who wants to carry a bottle? Oh well. It was fundraiser, not a race. It was fun though. I'm getting really excited about the Minnie. See you all soon!

Hey Minnie Wish Walkers:
It's almost time for the 15K!!! We are going to do great!! Make sure you pack all the things you need for race day - make a list and check it twice!!
Read over the things to remember when doing a race-posted previously.

Can't wait to see everyone!!
