I was talking to my fiance on the weekend about the 2009 WDW Half Marathon. He thought I should try running a race before then so that I can get a feel for what it's like. I think he was referring to something close to us but I went ahead and suggested the Minnie 15K.

Just wondering how quickly registration fills up. I was thinking I'd probably have a better idea of how things are going (training-wise) in a month or so.

I was also wondering about transportation. Are there Disney buses or do we cab/drive ourselves to the start.

TIA!

The Minnie doesn't fill up too fast... There is onsite transportation. Keep an eye out on disneysports.com. Look under Venues and once it starts filling up they normally would post if it's 50% full and so on. I know they did for the marathon, but I'm not sure if they will for Minnie or not...

Good luck!

The MINNIE did not even fill up last year, in fact Disney was kind of dissappointed with the turn out but I would just keep an eye on the web site just to be safe. There are no busses to the event from the hotels, but you can get a cab or just car-pool with someone who will have a car like me, last year a few of us shared a ride :)

Here is a link to the web site with lots of info:

I have done several Disney races and I thought the MINNIE was great!! Hope you join us.

The Minnie 15K is the last 9.3 miles of the WDW marathon course. You will need to take a resort bus to DHS and grab a bus from there to WWoS to the expo. Disney does provide transportation from EPCOT(finish) to AK(start) the morning of the race. You just need to get to EPCOT. I shared a ride with Mel(thanks again) to EPCOT and took the bus to AK. For the 5K the day before, we took a cab from BWV to DTD and it only cost $10 including tip. This year the 5K is at EPCOT so have to get there somehow.

It is a great race a deal for women as they get a tech shirt and a backpack(07) for only $40:thumbsup2 . There are no men style or sized shirts if you know a guy who might run. Linda got my shirt and backpack so she did well.

The expo is a lot smaller than the Marathon's.

I did the 5K last yr, and stayed at AKL(not with Anthony travel). Dh and I took at cab that morning to Downtown Disney from AKL. It was $14 plus tip.

I will be interested in other's responses about travel this year since the location of the 5K is different. And of course, bc I have never done the 15K.

I'm trying to convince my fiance to run but I don't think he will. I have access to a treadmill and he doesn't. I know I don't want to go running outside for at least another month so I don't want to force him.

I will be watching for more info on getting to both races this year.

Was the 15K transportation for everyone running or just the ones booked through Anthony travel?

I'd be interested in knowing as well... AKL was the hotel we were thinking of :)

Did I read that this was the last year for the Minnie?

daisylove, That's the rumor. We'll find out for sure at the Expo this weekend.

Oh I hope not. Please post what you find out. Thanks!

I too heard that this is the last year for the MINNIE.

And next year it will be a Princess themed run.

I could be wrong, but that is what I heard. I would love to run this years Minnie, but I have already been to Disney twice and I have too much going on right now to commit now.

I can't wait to hear the official word. :)

Where in canada are you? If you are in southeast ontario check out the site northernrunner.org for events in northern new york and southeastern ontario. The Boilermaker in Utica NY is a 15K race and a good indication of the stamina required of a half marathon. I ran the boilermaker in July last year and then a half marathon in September and I though the half was easier than the Boilermaker, less hilly anyway. The site also lists other local races. Hope this helps.

ANy news on 2009 Minnie?

I spoke to someone at the Expo, and there will be no 2009 Minnie. The rumors were right on. For 2009, it will be revamped into a 1/2 Marathon and will be Princess themed. He also said it will be a womens only event. Right now, women (and women's fitness) are the focus of the Minnie, but men are still allowed to enter and run. It was the first that I had heard it'll be women only, so I don't know how accurate that is or if he was just misinformed. Guess we'll see.

I love Minnie, so I will definitely be at the Minnie Weekend in May to get the last Minnie medal. Also, if this past weekend is any indication, I just may get the very last medal, too. :lmao: See, I finished at the very back of the pack in the half. Seriously, there were only a handful of people behind me. Still don't have that medal, but all that is for another post.

Now I really want to do the Minnie this year!

Princess theming doesn't do much for me; nor does the idea of not being able to have my husband walk with me. I hope I can convince him to let us go this year! He already said he wasn't sure, and by that, I mean he said NO, but I am hoping to find a persuasive argument why we should go back (we went for a week last July, two weeks in August, a weekend in December, and we have a trip planned for this July).

But if it's my only shot at a Minnie medal, I want to go! Not to mention, 9 miles sounds like less than 13 miles....

That is why I want to go too :)

However, I can't see Disney having two 1/2's every year. Maybe the distance will be bumped back down to 9 why it becomes official. Just a thought!

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep it a 1/2 in the future because evidently they are trying to compete with some other marathons that tend to fall in that time frame, flying pig, etc. Of course if they don't get a good turnout maybe not.
