Minne Marathon Team List

Ok, sorry if this is a dumb question, but are mp3 players allowed??

Ok, just read in the final instructions that headphones are NOT allowed.. YIKES!! I have never run without my music!! :( Sorry,i know this must be basic info, but i am a total newbie, and being my first race, i didn't know what to expect.. i am slightly bummed about this!!

Don't worry about it! I always train with music in one ear, for safety, but never use it during races. Too much to see around you, too many interesting people to chat with, etc. :wizard:

It looks like from an earlier post you are doing the 5K. The time will fly by and you won't miss your music at all - promise :thumbsup2

Actually I have done 4 races at Disney and they ALWAYS say no music allowed but lots of people use it including myself -- LOTS!!!. Nobody cares as long as you don't run like my DH with earphones in both ears not paying attention to the runners around you. Lot's of people say it's no big deal to them to not use it for races, I personally HAVE to have it. Sometimes I just need to run to the beat, sometimes it helps me push through a tough part of a run. It's up to you but our first race at Disney - RFTT I read the instructions and did not bring my music and everyone around me had theirs and i was vERY mad that i did not bring mine. :headache:

I did the 5k last year and don't think they were strict with the time requirement. BUT, I know I was under the 15 min. mile pace.

Boy, that was alot of help, huh? :confused3 :rotfl:

Last year's 5K was my first Disney race. I finished in a blistering 51 (maybe 52) minutes, so I was well over the 15 minutes pace and there were plenty of people behind me. I'm guessing they didn't sweep unless you just stopped moving. Also looking at the new course, I doubt they will this year either. There just isn't anywhere along the course to park a bus that will pick up the runners/walkers that are behind the pace. KWIM? I think it would just be easier to allow people to finish and have a great experience so they will come back for more races. I think, in the 5K, as long as you keep moving forward, you'll be fine.

However, don't stop or slow down your training based on my post. It's a new course and Disney may want all participants done by the time the park opens.

Update for Minniers(sp?)
I was just at WDW for 4 days. Weather was pretty warm especially as the sun comes up. Early mornings were ok, but humidity was high. One morning fog rolled in across the resort:

Please remember this is one reason why the races will start early!!
Remember to hydrate!! After about 15 min my face and neck had sweat on them and then everywhere else and I was up and going around 6:30am. I'm pretty use to it, but those who aren't be aware!!

Can't wait!!!

Hello All,
I don't post very often, but I have to thank you all. I read the Minnie related posts almost everyday and your comments, excitement, dedication and friendships keep me motivated and very excited about the event.

Recently my problems with a back issue have resurfaced and just reading your posts keep me encouraged. I should be able to complete the 15k but possibly slower than I'd like. Fortunately I've finally found a physical therapist that specializes in my problem. I'm very optimistic and the best part is I've been able to run once a week. I'm focusing on my long run and I've been pushing myself on the bicycle to maintain my fitness but it isn't nearly as fun as running.

I am having scary deja vu about the heat with the recent comments. I do recall the humidity last year and it's brutal on a girl from Arizona. I don't even know how to simulate that for training.

Though none of you know me, I'm hoping to join you and meet you all at your DIS meet before the race... if you don't mind. I'm watching to see where it ends up. It would be me and my dh.

Again, thanks for all your Minnie energy!
Buttercup, aka Katie :)

Katie :welcome: :welcome: Of course we would love to have you. At the races and come to the meet on Saturday if you can make it. What kind of back issues do you have? I had surgery in November and MINNIE will be my first race back since recovery. I love the energy and motivation here took, that's what keeps me here. The start line of the 15K for MINNIE last year was the first time I met any WISHers and everyone was so warm and friendly and encouraging.

Can't wait to meet you and I hope the physical therapist helps.

GOOD EVENING FELLOW MINNIES!!!!
I just realized on my SIGGIE tonight less than 30 days!!!! I am getting so excited now!!!! Hope training is going well for everyone, mine is coming along well. My mom is doing the 5k and she has never done anything like this before and told her all about you guys and how great you are.

Keep up the good work team, can't wait to see you guys at the start!!!

  Welcome Katie!!!! Like you, I will be meeting the WISH Team for the first time at the Minnie. Hope to see you there.

Hey Minnie-ers! I am shocked by how quickly this race is coming up. So....I've been a little out of the loop. Has there been any further discussion of cab/ride-sharing from resorts, specifically the very popular OKW?

I slacked off training for a while there, but I am back in the game now. Not looking forward to the heat/humidity so much, but I ran in drizzle today, so it can't be more humid than that, right? Well, maybe it can. And it's sure to be warmer. Anyone ever run a 15K with one of those little battery powered fans? :rotfl:

I have a question for all those that have ran the Minnie 15K before. The literature says to be at the start no later than 5:45AM; what time to most of you actually get there? I don't want to cut it too short, but I also don't want to have loads of extra time to get nervous waiting for the start.

I can hardly believe it's so close already!

Sharon

I was getting a little worried about the 15 min. time limit, too. I run faster than that, but for this race I'm walking with my aunt. I know she can go faster than 15 min.mile, but then last night she called to tell me she broke her toe!! Oh well, she's got 25 days to recover, right?! :)

Oh, and does anyone know if they run busses from the resorts like they do for the marathon weekend or do we have to get to the parking lot on our own? I haven't gotten any info from Disney at all yet.

Katie - Welcome! I'd love to learn a little more about you before the Minnie. Hope you post more before then! Then you'll be among your frinds and not just watching others! :goodvibes

Sharon - Haven't decided what I'm doing tha tmornign yet, but I prefer to be early. DOn't for get, you'll wnat time for WISH pix!

You're absolutely right, and I hadn't thought of that. I definitely want WISH pics. :goodvibes I probably won't be able to sleep because of the excitement anyway. :)

My Sister and I have done both of the previous Minnies and we are a little paranoid about getting there early. We like to drive to EPCOT and leave the car there, then take the bus back to the AK for the start.

We have left our hotel at around 4:30, so we can be on one of the first buses to leave EPCOT....We would much rather sit around at the start then panic because the busses are full or drivers got lost (happened to others prior years).

We generally bring garbage bags to sit on, then we chat, visit the portapotties, stretch, visit the portapotties, make new friends, visit the portapotties..... :rotfl2: We are always "too excited to sleep" anyway :wizard:

:lmao: Sounds like what I'll be like - too excited to sleep and the multiple porta potty runs! It's my first 15K so lots to be nervous about.

Wondering if anyone is heading over to packet pick up on Friday. I get in that morning but DH ( and the car) won't get there until 8p. Would rather pick it up Friday versus Saturday. I can grab a cab since staying at CB but figured I'd see if anyone was headed over and wouldn't mind a tag-along.:)

So a couple of practical questions, since we are talking parking and bussing.....what is the parking situation before the races? Is it parking at the parks? Do you pay if you are staying off-site? If a person were staying, say at OKW, would a cab be able to drop them off at Epcot to catch a bus? Or is it parking only?

Is there a bus to WWoS from....somewhere? From MGM maybe or DTD? Or is it strictly cab or rental car?

You can park at the parks for free before the start no matter where yo ustay. There will be plenty of cabs from resort hotels, you are probably better off to get cab right to start at AK??

The only bus to WWOS runs from MGM other wise you do have to take cab or rental car.

hope this helps.

Amy, sounds like the deck is stacked against your aunt. I do WISH it all works out and that she'll be fine.

Katie, glad you came out of lurker mode. Come out and play more often here. It will be nice to meet you at Minnie. We'd love to get to know you here. You'll find us fun!

I'm feeling the excitement. It IS getting closer!

Whee!
