Minne Marathon Team List

I'm now thinking maybe I should do the 5k too. Is anyone bringing kids to the 5k? Emma is 8 so she makes the age limit. She did the ToT 6.5k with me last year and was really mad they cancelled it for this year. She did much better than I expected at the ToT. The pace worries me, but she has been walking with me on the weekends. She has a WISH shirt, and would probably really like wearing a medal at the parks...;)

Jen in GA

Hey WISHERs,

Jen, I am kinda sorta maybe thinking about signing up for Minnie. I will try and throw together a 6 miler today and see how I feel, I haven't gone past 4 miles since the marathon, thus my lack of posting.:sad2:

I have a DD8 as well and I think she may be interested in the 5K. I will let you know because it would be great for her to have a run/walk buddy.

Colleen

Also, I need a hotel room, so if anyone is thinking about cancelling an AP or general public rate at AKL or WL standard or BC let me know.:goodvibes

Carrie -- It looks like the poll is closed, so I just posted on that thread with my views.

:yay: , Jen and Colleen!!! What fun!! In the past, they haven't been really strict with the 15 min pace on the 5K. HTH! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this section of the boards. :wave2: I did the 1/2 marathon last year and am doing the 5K this year. I'd love to do the 15K but I'm doing the race with my 57 year old aunt. She's never run and she had a big knee operation this year so we'll be walking lots of it. I was going to do it alone but I was so happy when she agreed to try it that I don't mind walking with her! :)

We're staying at WL from May 1-7.

Hey team....I read this interesting point concerning pace groups for both the 5K and 15K:

Pace Groups: Please note that pacing signs will be placed in the start line chute indicating where you should line up according to your personal mile running or walking pace. The pace groups are as follows: 7 minutes and under, 7:01-9 minutes, 9:01-11 minutes, 11:01-13 minutes, 13:01-15 minutes, and walkers.

I didn't see anything in there about sweepers....:rolleyes1

Page one "There will be pick up points along the course to transport you to the finish line if your are unable to maintain the 15 minute per mile pace."

Sounds like sweepers to me.

I don't know why but reading these has made me REALLY nervous about this. I have never tried to go this far and this pace requirement is worrying me. I am doing about 13 right now and don't see much hope of a speed increase in the next month....:confused3

Carol, doing a 13 is wonderful!!:thumbsup2 You will be so ready for Minnie. Just get those LW/LR's in. Besides, you'll have WISHers all around you to keep you going!! :goodvibes Anne

Yeah, I read that too, but it looks like only for the 15K.

My sister and my dad are doing the 5K along w/ DH, and my mom and I'm afraid because of age and physical ailments they will only be able to get about a 17 min pace. It's their first event and I really hope they don't get swept. Neither has been able to train like they planned.

I noticed it said that every finisher would get a medal. I assume that means--if you don't get swept??? :confused3 I really want my sister and my dad to get a medal.

Thoughts???

Yes, Stacie, you have to cross the finish line to get the medal, unless you go on eBay. In previous years, the 5K was a chip timed event, so although they were a little lenient, I think a 17 min pace might be too slow. But it IS Disney, so anything's possible!

Kristi, can you help out here?:goodvibes Anne

Can anyone who has done the 5k before suggest what time you should be at the starting area by?

I am sensing the only way to get there, is via a cab or someone with a car right??
The epcot monorail doesn't run that early .. right? ;) LOL

Where are you guys reading to find the information about pace groups and pick up points, etc. (rules and guidelines for the Minnie 15K)?? Thanks.

Oops, that's what I get for a general skimming through!

My pace isn't as good as yours (about 14), which makes me very nervous too. Your pace sounds good and you will probably be even faster because of the excitement, etc.:goodvibes

I, too, am worried about the 15min/mile pace, I do not train that fast, but I seem to be able to keep up a faster pace in races. In the GA ING 1/2 marathon I just walked/ran, my pace was 13:55! So, I'm counting on the race excitement (and lower altitude) to keep my pace up.

Ok, sorry if this is a dumb question, but are mp3 players allowed??

Ok, just read in the final instructions that headphones are NOT allowed.. YIKES!! I have never run without my music!! :( Sorry,i know this must be basic info, but i am a total newbie, and being my first race, i didn't know what to expect.. i am slightly bummed about this!!
