Minimum points allowed for purchase

We're considering buying DVC resale and were wondering about minimum points. I've read Disney requires 150 points...what does that mean? Does that mean if we bought 100 points to start, we couldn't use them until we bought 50 more points, or will they not even let you purchase anything below 150 if you've never bought DVC before? We're not necessarily buying directly through Disney, we've been looking at the different resale agencies that are out there. I'm just trying to figure this all out.

Thanks much!

The minimum Disney will sell you is 150 points. It started out being 230 and they lowered it. You can buy resales for less than 150 but not from Disney.

...based on the SSR sales literature, that you must make a minimum purchase of 150 points for that resort.

I don't know about other resales that might be available through DVC, and what, if any, the minimum point requirements for those might be. (I'm guessing that someone with more wisdom than I can answer that question.)

If you buy resale through another source (like our sponsor), no minimum purchase is required.

At least, that's how it was presented to me.

Good luck!

If you buy resale, you can buy the contract no matter the number of points, and use them to the limit allowed. That is, you can bank and borrow or use whatever amount you have in any given year. So, a 50 point contract could give you 150 point vacation every 3 years if you banked all one year and borrowed fall rom the 3rd year. You would pay maintenance fees on the 50 points every year.

There's a recent thread about owning 100 points and the comments are about how happy the owners are and how they use the points.
