Minimum add on points at Riviera

We purchased a 70 point contract at Riviera earlier this year. After staying at WDW last week, riding the Skyliner and seeing the resort, we decided that we would love to add 30 more points to make it a round 100 points. The DVC website says that cash add-ons can be made for 25 points or more and financed start at 50 points. When I called my rep saying we wanted to add 30 points and pay cash, he said the minimum for Riviera was 50 regardless of payment method. Is this what others have experienced? I can’t find this information publicly available anywhere and feel really misled by the DVC membership website.

When I was purchasing, I broke my points into smaller contracts. I wanted some 25 point contracts, but 50 was the lowest they would go. I even told my guide that I would buy more if I could break it into 25 point contracts, but she said the higher ups were firm on 50 points being the minimum contract size. This was back in March or April when it first went on sale, and I don’t remember if I’ve seen anyone report being able to buy less than a 50 point contract since then.

Thanks for the feedback. That is really frustrating since it isn’t what is reflected on the website.

Sucks they don't make an exception since you already own Riviera.

I understand the 50 point add on limit minimum, though. If they allowed 25 points then all those small owners would essentially be fighting for the tower studios, since 25 points are pointless (pun... intended?) otherwise. Additionally, I think DVC is preventing the possibility of a member in the future from having only 25 points and nothing more. If they sold you 25 today, you could theoretically sell it resale next week if a financial hardships arises.

I mean, you could do much of the same with a 50 point contract. My rep said the policy changed with Copper Creek, but we never looked into buying there, so I have no idea if that is true. We purchased at Poly in 2015, and at that time, the minimum for add-ons was 25. The website still reflects the same information. We don't want 120 points though, so I guess it is a no go for us.

Unfortunately, whether your currently own or not has no bearing on this rule for the reason you mentioned. Members keep complaining about all the competition for studios because of small point owners. I just wanted to break mine up so they would divide more evenly between my kids. Oh well. It saved me the cost of 25 points and will save the OP the cost of 30 points. Saving money is never a bad thing. :)

Correct, the policy changed with Copper Creek. There's a similarity in the way of thinking between this and the 25-75-100 direct point requirement for the blue card: Raise the barrier for entry.

Yes, I was simply empathizing with the OP, but understood why the hard rule is in place.
