Calling all mini-van owners -

Okay - rented a 7 seat mini-van for our group in May. There will be 4 adults and one toddler in a car seat.

The question - can we get 5 full-size suitcases (25 or 27 inch) in there, plus probably 3 day-pack size backpacks?

I'm thinking a couple suitcases could go on the bench seat that is supposed to hold 3 people - but we only need one person sitting on. Would three go behind the seats?

what kind of minivan? Our odyssey could handle that. It would be tight, but it would fit.

We rented a van from Budget in January (new Chrysler), and comfortably transported 4 adults, 1 8yo and 1 4yo, with 4-5 suitcases (bigger than carryons, forget the size, but usually come in around 40-45lbs), Maclaren stroller, booster seat, 5pt harness, and various backpacks/purses.

I can't say that my visibility was good out the back, but it worked.

I am not going to bust out the tape measure, but as long as you aren't talking about huge suitcases that people who travel internationally use (weight isn't an issue), you should be fine.

What kind of minivan? We have a dodge grand caravan. We could easily do what you are thinking of. You can fit 2 of any carry on's in the stow in go. Trust me we did 7 carry on's 2 checked bags and a stroller with 7 people, anything is possible!

The rental car website says "Dodge Caravan or similar" - so - it's sounding like it might all fit! That's a relief. Anything bigger costs a couple hundred more!

We've rented minivans several times with 4 adults and 2 kids and weeks worth of luggage. Never had a problem.

It should be fine. Caravans have (Towne and Country by Chrysler too) "stow and go", which is great and the back seat will stow and go for part of the rear seat. Either on the two seat side or the one seat side (or both). You should have plenty of room.
