Mingos in the Watah! What in the Wuhld?

I never roll my eyes, MeMom! I LOL often!!

I am wishing I could be on the October trips....but I'm thinking maybe in 2012. I mapped out my vacation time & with my bday trip, a trip for my parents anniversary & a long weekend, I've got plenty of time available. I'd like to take Caroline but if that doesn't work out, I'd go myself. Are you (very tentatively) "planning" on a fall 2012 trip??

I'm sure I will want to go in the fall of 2012. Whether I am able to or not remains to be seen. I think I'd like to go back during Thanksgiving again. We were semi-planning to do that this year until the big NYE thing evolved, so we opted for that instead. We are supposed to get another week for fall break again next year. I think next October is when Jill's family is finally going to be able to go with some friends of theirs that they hang out with a lot. If it falls at the right time, I could go and just do some alone stuff while they do things with them, then see them in the evenings or whenever it worked out. I could also keep the four girls in the room an evening or two while the grown-ups did a nice dinner night or got some DTD time. That's all just speculation, of course. I don't know their exact plans.

I don't roll my eyes, either; I just end up laughing like a maniac all alone in my room!

I just wanted to share some exciting news -- I am in the early childhood education practicum class this semester and next (it's a two-part course.) If we are not employed at a child care center, we have to find a place to intern at. I found out this morning that I got the placement I went for! I'll be there Monday through Thursday 9-12. It's going to be a crazy semester between the interning, my regular work schedule, and my classes, but I'm genuinely excited about it and I can't wait to start!

I'm glad you got what you wanted. We have a Pre-K class at our school. I imagine they would take your help any time you wanted to come. :thumbsup2 There are two teachers, and from what I see in the hall, those little guys keep them very busy! :jumping1:

Hey Memom, i am keeping up. Just lurking mostly.:)
Having some issues with my youngest so not in the most 'talkative' mood.:sad2:

I just want to say thanks for keeping up with the trip report even during all the trials and excessive "stuff" with school.

Also, i would like to thank you and all the teachers reading or on these boards. In my life i am not sure what i would do without all of you and your hard work and dedication. Feel free to talk about all that stuff, it gives me a better foundation for understanding. Also my daughter is in college for a double major of Elementary education and Phsycolgy. Everyone keeps telling her to look into something else and being negative. she has talked about being a teacher since she was 5. I think she can make a difference in the lives of children, as all of you do. :yay:

sorry for the longwindedness.......:flower3:

KIM

I am hoping that after next week, when this first evaluation is over with, I can breathe a little easier and be a little happier. I'll try to do better here, then, and hopefully brighten your days more than I have been able to do lately.

I wanted to be a teacher, too. Well, mainly I wanted to be a Mommy, but I had to be a Mommy and go to work, as it turned out. The bad thing is, teaching is not like it used to be. There is so much extra - so much paperwork, so much testing, so many numbers in boxes - at least in our system. The teaching gets lost in all that. I would advise her to spend a lot of time in some schools and see if it's really what she wants. The girl next to me said she is going to a small private school. She said she went to school when she was 29 to get her degree to do something she loved, and this current situation is definitely not what she loves. She has a husband with an income, so she had the ability to take a decrease in pay, unlike me.

Hope everyone's day is going great!! I just want to pop in at lunch to share some news. So, as a backstory, I randomly ask my DH if he wants to consider doing various vacation options to see when I can get him to agree to things. So, he has been against Hawaii with the kids for awhile due to the flight. I just texted him at lunch and said "Aulani at spring break? What do you think?". He texted back that he did not want to go if it was during the Masters. Well, I jumped on that and called him since it is not during the Masters. He said we could tentatively see what they had available. Guess what? I have an Island View Studio booked!!!! So excited, but I do realize it is very tentative right now. I have to keep watching airfare and find a good route for the boys to fly. I will also have enough points for a Disney Vacation in the summer!! Yeah! Memom, when are your plans for summer right now?

You are one of the luckiest people around, you know! :cool1:

Summer plans are that we will have to go in June, since our school is starting earlier than ever. Kids will report August 1st! The plan is that Brooklynn and I will fly down about the 13th. Jill, John, and Bella will drive down on the 16th. We'll do Disney, then drive over to Vero to hang out with Wigd and Shocker for a day or two. Then we really have to get back home, because I start church camp on the 24th. We will probably leave Saturday evening and drive halfway, then finish out on Sunday. I can get someone to cover supper Sunday and then start my camp work bright and early Monday morning. After a long Disney trip, that will prove to be interesting.

I love Brooklynn's "Pretty Bird". And the comment about the lions on Soarin' was so funny. It made me laugh out loud.

I want to brag on my son, Ethan, if you don't mind. He tried out for the Academic Bowl on Monday and found out today that he made the team. I am so proud of him. I was proud of him whether he made it or not. He is a shy guy and the fact that he tried out was a huge step for him.

Brag away! It's great to be so proud of your kids.

I think a flight to California to see DisneyLand before you go on to Hawaii might be the best route. Explain to your DH that it will break up the long flight by having a couple days layover in California. Then they will be worn out from touring and will sleep all the way to Hawaii.:rotfl:

Sounds like a plan. :thumbsup2

I did a class like that in college and I was placed in the campus on site daycare center. I had a blast and got a taste of the real thing. I went on to work with preschool or school age children until my DD was born, then I went back to the pool.

MeMoms school of enabling has produced 2 more scholars. :lmao:
Momof2TNboys- congrats on booking Aulani and reelmom stopping in DL is the way to go!! :lmao:

Wait a minute now - what did I have to do with any of this??? My school, as of this moment, would be the School of Being Crazy, Distraught, and Exhausted! :crazy2:

I told my DH the same thing!!!:) I don't know if he will go for it though!! Let me know how things work out. When is your Spring Break? I hope it works out for you!

Have you all seen this link?

Lou Mongello is doing a live Aulani feed right now. It is very pretty.

Memom...I think you should go during Thanksgiving 2012...if all goes according to my plan we will be there until the Saturday after Thanksgiving!

You could "borrow" my turtle... if only you lived just a little closer! Since my daughter left for college, I'm having a tough time remembering to feed the poor guy.

momof2TNboys.....I am so happy fo you!
The resort looks so awesome!

I will get to Aulani someday!
Maybe I should go by way of Disneyland...sounds very tempting...I will dream about it. :goodvibes

MeMom....I'm glad that we will meet on NYE cuz our paths don't look like they are going to cross next year.

:yay::yay:Can I share my excittement for 4 sleeps til I'm on WDW property!!!:yay::yay:

That's a possibility. The downside to going at Thanksgiving is that we don't get as much time. During the Christmas holiday, we can stay much longer.

I briefly thought about getting one for the classroom, but it is illegal to sell them in TN. I really don't need anything else to worry about right now anyway, so it's for the best just to borrow one for the day.

Lou Mongello took the box people to Aulani last night. I had him on in the background while I was doing other things, but the parts I saw of it were lovely, as you would expect.

Yes, we can share in your excitement! :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

We are very excited for you, and we look forward to your updates. :thumbsup2

Cara, that is so exciting!!! :yay:

For sure! She needs to set up a webcam for us, doesn't she? ::yes::

I have some amazing news! If you remember, I asked for prayers for Baby O, my friends nephew. He is HOME!! Here is the info; it brought tears to my eyes:

106 days, 6 hospital rooms, 11 staff doctors, 6,000 miles of driving, countless tears and countless prayers from new world and old later, little baby O is home safe with his mom and dad. *No oxygen, on medicines. *Today he's not a preemie just a perfect little baby. *His due date was tomorrow. *Praise be to God.

Isn't that amazing?!?! They are so happy.

Thank you everyone for the prayers!!!

DWGal210-that is great news!!!

I am not excited about Aulani yet, because I know things can change. It is good that Jason talked about it last night some. I think he is already missing his happy place and the DVC points helped ease the blow of booking another trip.:rotfl2: We love Oahu anyway so staying at a DVC resort would be icing on the cake. There is so much I would love to show my boys there!!

Hey, I fell a few pages behind because the fan on my laptop died. It gets extremely hot very fast and I dont want to overheat it and risk losing everything. Now I am dising from my iPod. Memom I never roll my eyes at. Your reports they make me laugh and smile. Pat, thank you for my lotion, it was very appreciated. That video was awful but I take it as a warning of what to expect.

Love Brooklynn's pretty bird!!! Are bats birds? Or reptiles? Or another?!?!?!? I am so bad for not knowing!!!!!

One thing I forgot to tell you post holiday... when walking around Sea World, past the Flamingos... Toby shouted and shouted "Mummy Mingos"!!!!!! Of course I thought of Bella.... xxx

Oooh, if you all are down for Thanksgiving next year maybe we could plan a quick DIS meet! We're planning on going down for Thanksgiving because it will be Everett's birthday, and I'd love to meet up with some fellow DIS fans! :yay:

You got a new lotion! :woohoo: That Pat is a pretty good girl. ;)

If I had last year's class this year with all the new stuff, I would be in deep trouble. Luckily, my class is much better, so I am better able to face the 2-3 hour shift that starts after the school day ends.

Bats are mammals.

And you name them after birds. :upsidedow

I saw that on FB. I don't guess I'll ever not think of Bella from now on when I see mingos.

How many days until you go back to stock up on more lotion bottles? Like 10 days, maybe?

If you could trek out to Aulani and bring back a sea turtle for me to show my students next Wednesday, I would really be grateful. You can go back and return it the next day. I just need it for my observation. My kids would flip out!

Flip out.
Sea turtle.
Get it?
:upsidedow

Okay, I sense some eye rolling happening now.

Very happy news about Baby O!

God is Good!!!

He is - even when bad things happen to good people or when people turn from Him, He is the ultra loving Father, always there with open arms to love and comfort the weary, struggling, and sad.

**************************************

It is finally Friday. The weekend is close enough to touch, but this will be another 11 hour work day. I think in another after-school session today, I can cap off the last of the things I need to do for the evaluation papers. I have had to scale it down some, as there was too much information to get in during the allotted time. I want to get it all typed out and printed off tonight so that I don't have to think about it this weekend. It's not the observation part that bothers me. I am past the stage of nervousness when someone is watching. We've had so many clipboard people in our school for the past years, so I'm used to tuning people out and focusing on the kids. The tedious things about the evaluation has been the paperwork and all that they want us to do and encompass. So, when I can finalize the plan itself, the stressful part will be over. :thumbsup2

Life in Harambe is not so stressful.

Well, his face looked a little 'mean', but it's just the second that I captured. He was banging away and having a good time. Except for the heat factor, I'm sure.

Okay, you're kidding! I need a turtle so badly, and this is where I am in the report?!?!?!?

We've never eaten at Restaurantosaurus, but I do think the theme there is so fun (those wacky grad students!).

(That is Restaurantosaurus, correct? I am SO not an AK expert!)

Wow, there are mingos everywhere in AK! There used to be mingos in Epcot too, I'm not sure if they're still there, by the African Outpost bridge.
