Mingos in the Watah! What in the Wuhld?

I have to thank you...I was bracing myself for a snake pic...and you spared me..:worship:

It so nice to see the care they have with the animals. Very cool to see a kangaroo so close.

My DMom has a question...do they take your pic and put it on your annual pass?
We were just laughing (together) at her unflattering drivers liscence pic.
She really needs to go and have that pic taken again...

Poor Bella looks exhausted waiting for the kangaroo! However, it looks like it was worth the wait. I mean, don't get me wrong, I feel awful for the poor kangaroo. But I'm sure it was very interesting to see. I've never seen a kangaroo in real life!

That was so sad it was funny. I feel for you. Working for the government I can totally understand. :sad2:

Kind of feels like this...

You will be able to keep your free dining, as long as you don't change your dates.
I was told by the CM on the phone the other day that I was lucky to have booked before they changed the dates.
Bumping up a day still fell inside the new dates so all was good.

I bet there will be some disapointed folks who didn't book right away and will loose out.
Funny how a day can change everything.
There was even a difference in price of the flights between Thurs & Fri.

Glad you booked it when you did, so you'll have the free dining! Be positive...all your trips have happened in the past! :thumbsup2

I am happy to hear that. I think this one can happen if someone can go with me. I am hoping maybe Jill and the girls can go for a long weekend, but if not, then hopefully Kay can. She loves F&G, too. I haven't talked to her in a few weeks, but I have texted with her briefly about the possibility. She said maybe she can. Of course, I would very much want Jill to go, as well, so maybe that will work out for at least a few days of the trip. Bella's birthday is that week, so I plan to come back to get ready for that. We're still 'guiding' her toward Little Mermaid or Nemo. She said Ariel once, but most of the time she is saying 'Memo'. I hope John can carve a big old shark out of wood with his new little saw. :thumbsup2

MeMom you would make the best AK CM ever! When Danielle has her class at the AK in Feb I'm going to tell her to pay special attention so we can report back to you on what your new job requirements will be..:thumbsup2

The one time we were at the Conservation Station for some real animal interaction we got there too late and ended up all the way in the back and couldn't see anything.:sad2: Kudos to y'all for getting to experience this up close.

Just go ahead and sign me up while you are there! I don't think I'm going to last much longer here. I would love being happy in my work again. ;)

We've seen some neat things - the best one being the tiger. :tigger:

Love the vet pics. One time we went there and they were operating on a turtle that was struck by a car and had a cracked shell. They were so tender and loving, just as you said, speaking with the turtle even though he/she was heavily sedated. The only word I could use to describe our state as we stood there and watched was MESMERIZED. So much so, that when we finally broke our stare, we realized we had been watching and chatting with the vet who had come out to explain for about 45 minutes. It is such an amazing experience, I would never wish harm on any animal but I hope we get a chance to see this again in October.

I happen to be doing my evaluation next week on a book about turtles, so I dreamed about them last night. I dreamed that I went to our camp and there were about 5-6 of them there by the door just waiting for me to take them and show the kids.

In reality, I bought two plastic tortoises at Michael's yesterday on the way home, and I have one rubberish sea turtle already at school. Unless I can find someone who owns a turtle who will let me borrow it for the day, plastic and rubber will be as good as it gets.

I was in awe of the tiger we saw being treated on one visit. To see it that close and to really realize how huge those paws were was incredible. The people who work there genuinely love those animals.

I hope you get to see something happening in October, too. You'll have to send me a picture.

Love the AK pics. It is so cool to see the animal exams. I just love animals. I really thought my boys did not like animals for a long time. They have really started to like animals now. We go to the zoo often. Of course, their favorite animal is Buttercup, a 23 foot long, 220lb reticulated python. :scared1:
Mommy's worst nightmare. I have a severe, irrational fear of snakes! Cooper wants to visit every one. It kills me.

I don't have any fear of snakes, although I don't want to come across one unexpectedly in the woods or anything. ;) My severe, irrational fear would be finding myself in a very small cage with one. :scared1: With how I might act in a small cage, the snake would be trying to find a way to get away from me! ::yes::

I have to thank you...I was bracing myself for a snake pic...and you spared me..:worship:

No snake pictures this time. Big fat toads, instead. :goodvibes

No picture is on an AP.
Unless you look a lot like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, etc. :)

It was worth the wait. Now we can say we have seen a kangaroo on an operating table. I doubt most people can say that. Do you make it to Rafiki's to watch these procedures?

 :rotfl2:  :rotfl2:....WOW that is aweful & funny all at the same time.

I feel for you!

We say it at school all the time, it's so ridiculous it has to be a joke, yet it's not.

The video was made by someone in the know, for sure. :goodvibes The people in the know should be the ones actually making up the rules, too. Unfortunately, it's people who never are in a classroom who make the rules. :sad2:

That was so sad it was funny. I feel for you. Working for the government I can totally understand. :sad2:

It is a true mess. If I can make it five more years, I will take early retirement and find something else. Our school used to be an enjoyable place to be. There was laughter and the morale was good. We have had dips in morale during certain phases, but nothing like this. This is more than a dip, and we're going to lose some really good teachers soon because of it.

There is nothing better to soothe work woes than to go shopping, right?

But first - a couple of bird pictures.

Don't say you weren't warned, bird fearers.

Better like this?

Or like this?

:tiptoe:

Now we shop.

Mingos out of the watah?

DisneySummer20112ndset343.jpg

I bet the lions on row 2 felt like they were on Soarin'. ;)

This bat came home with us.

DisneySummer20112ndset344.jpg

It's name - Pretty Bird. :rotfl:

DisneySummer20112ndset345.jpg

DisneySummer20112ndset346.jpg

That's actually all the shopping pictures I took. I was watching Brooklynn as she made her new animal friend choice. There will be more shopping later.

The show area.

DisneySummer20112ndset348.jpg

I would enjoy doing these programs. ::yes::

DisneySummer20112ndset349.jpg

The petting area.

DisneySummer20112ndset350.jpg

A gorilla story for you.

Goodbye, big guy!

DisneySummer20112ndset353.jpg

Back on the train to civilization.

DisneySummer20112ndset354.jpg

Well, that wasn't quite civilization, but we got to Harambe eventually. :thumbsup2

This is a sample of Harambe shopping.

DisneySummer20112ndset355.jpg

That's it for now. Gotta go try to catch up on other reports while I have a few minutes.

That video is a bit scary...all the more so when you say it is sadly realistic.

I agree you would be a great educator in AK. When I took the backstage safari in 2006, if I remember correctly, our guide was a former teacher who had " retired" to FL and I remember her saying something about how Disneynwas especially interested in her teaching skills. You should ask in Oct!

Thanks for the shopping pics! Love that the lions were soarin'. :rotfl2:

Great AK pictures. I love that park but I have to convince my family (Declan) to slow down there. It seems we are always rushing around and missing things. For example, I have never seen a kangaroo at AK.

Thanks for the pics MeMom.

Good morning, MeMom! Did you see where I posted the pics of the African stuff over on the bottom of page 111? I think we were posting at the same time yesterday morning. :goodvibes

The kangaroo procedure is so neat!!! I cannot even begin to imagine being the one in charge of putting the gator on the ladder! Yikes! :scared1: I do think Disney is amazing in its care of animals! One night we were over at my parents' and Connor decided to play the "If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you want to be?" game. I promptly answered, "An Animal Kingdom animal!"

Great AK pictures! I love the care that the animals receive at Disney, it just makes Disney even more special in my eyes.

I'm sorry you are having a tough time at school, I've been in situations at work where the moral is so low it just makes going to work difficult.

I'm so sorry school has been a pain. :( very sad.

In happier news, you're just a few weeks away from your trip!!! Yee haw!! :)

Where were all these taken? We haven't seen any 'entertainers' like this in AK and I really want to. I think this is so great. It's one of the things I love most about World Showcase. I love seeing people native to the country that's being represented doing things like this. It is such an awesome learning experience since my family will probably never go to Africa or Asia! I am such a nerd when it comes to geography, world cultures, world religions, etc. I can't get enough of it, and when you find it as a sort of 'living museum' like this, I just LOVE it!

Loved the pictures from the vet area! They are the best pictures I have ever seen from back there. I love the close ups! You did a great job with that! It is so fascinating to see and read about what they do.

Okay, teachers, I just got this from one of my teacher friends. You will totally relate to it. Non-teachers, enjoy. This is what it is like. For real. :rotfl:

Oh my gosh! :lmao: I have to tell you that it isn't often that something makes me laugh to the point of tears but this did. My DH thought I had lost my mind and came in here and asked me what the heck was I doing on the internet! :rotfl: I told him he had to watch it and he too got a good laugh out of it. He's never taught before (except the kids at church), but he heard my belly aching about testing for years before I 'retired', so he totally got it! It is sad to know how true it is, but having been there, it just cracked me up! THANK YOU for a much needed GOOD laugh that I haven't had in a while! :worship:

I love how much the employees care for the animals. Also, I think the procedure viewing area is an incredible opportunity.

I think you are right about the Lions being on soarin' :rotfl2:

The video you posted was HILARIOUS!

Hi MeMom!! I fell behind, but I'm caught up now... and you are still at AK! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about how stressful school is right now. Just keep swimming toward that fall break. :goodvibes

Hi Memom. Got way behind on your lovely TR.Real life has been getting in the way. Staff training(birth to five child development and planning. Just when you think you've got it all sussed they go and change it:rotfl:) Had a job interview on Monday as well for a early years practitioner job in a private pre-school, so not had much DIS time:rolleyes:) I love the picture of sleepy Bella having a lay down whilst waiting for the kangaroo's arrival. A day at a Disney park is hard work!!Brooklynn has some wonderfully named stuffed animals. How does she remember the names of them all?:)

Rafiki's is definitely one place I want to check out again when we go in January. I love that AK loves its animals so much and takes such special care of them.

Too funny that Brooklynn chose a bat to bring home, and I love the name "Pretty Bird"! :Some of our cockatiels learned to say "hello pretty bird" or even "hello pretty chicken." My dad used to call them chickens...I was old enough to know the difference when he was doing this, and knew he was just being himself, but my brother wasn't quite old enough. On a trip to the farm when my brother was in preschool (he was three or four), my mom was a chaperone and pointed to some chickens and said, "look, Mikey, chickens!" He responded, "THOSE aren't chickens! WE have chickens!" :rotfl: Can't tell we're from the city, right?

Whoa, between Hurrican Irene, going away labor day weekend, and moving to my new place I fell severly behind on the trip report!!

I'm LOVING the AK pics!! I know alot of people give it flack but I love that park. On my solo day in June I spent a few hours in the morning just walking the trails, taking pictures and enjoying the atmosphere. It really is such a pretty park.

So happy to hear Brooklynn's excited for her October trip!! Can't wait to meet you guys!
