Mine Train vs. Transformers

I just want to see what everyone thinks. It's been said between numerous outlets that Transformers is a 24 hour, 7 days a week project. Uni has made it a priority to finish this in time for the Summer crowds. They basically started on Transformers in September last year. I would have thought Disney would have put some urgency on getting this coaster done at least in time for the holiday crowds. I just think its crazy that Uni is getting this project done in less than a year and it is taking 3 years to get the mine train done. Do you think they are counting on New Fantasyland right now as it is to pull crowds from Uni? Should Disney have more urgency.

Don't see why. If they wait until the hype about Transformers dies down it might actually be better.

Of course by then the hype for Harry Potter 2 and goodness knows what else might start.

I expect that Disney wants to roll out the expansion in waves to get as much traction as possible out of it. People can come and see the new area but then get excited to come back later and see even more. It makes sense IMO.

Last I looked, the Magic Kingdom alone gets more annual visitors than all three Uni parks combined, so I'm not sure they're too terribly worried about pulling visitors over.

I mean, obviously its a business and all, and they want as many people as possible, but seems to me that most people go to Orlanda and hit either Disney alone or Disney and Uni, but rarely just Uni. Unless maybe its a group of older people in which case the Mine Train isn't gonna pull them over anyway.

Its about maintaining the status quo more likely. But just a guess.

Older? I doubt that you mean the elderly but it almost sounds like it.

We often go to only Universal but we recognize that the two (three?) parks are smaller and will attract fewer people. MK is definitely the big gun.

I've heard that a wise business rarely relies on the status quo but constantly tries to lure more and more visitors. I wonder if Disney doesn't hope to do that too.

Transformers is basically an off-the-shelf attraction. Seven Dwarves Mine Train is breaking new ground and therefore can be naturally expected to take longer.

I probably qualify as older, and I really want to see the Mine Train. More than I want to see Transformers.

No no, not elderly, just folks without younger kids.

I suppose a business has to always hope to increase its customer base, but for MK to keep their 18 million annual visitors, I'd say is doing pretty well. Especially in this economy.

I also agree with PP that a phased opening of New FL makes sense.

we plan of going in Oct does anyone think they will be both open by then?

its still many months from opening... just wait, there will be tons of threads on "i am going to the world on [insert month/day] here, will there be a mine train soft opening" as it gets closer to the scheduled opening.

Also where is Transformers being built? The Mine Train is smack in the middle of an open area so they may only be able to do certain things at night.

Note I have no knowledge of US park layout.

It is in an interior section of the park as well, with guest-accessible areas on all sides. Just like 7DMT.

But inside an already existing building, from what I have understood from what I have read.

Now...Diagon Alley with the Gringott's coaster...now that's worth waiting for! (when I was watching the movie I was imagining it as a coaster...so excited!)

I know nothing of Mine Train, and actually keep forgetting, remembering, and forgetting again that Fantasyland is going to look different.

Disney works slow and overhypes their projects,do I still love them, sure but Universal is trouncing them right now.Let's look at the projects Universal will be building or are in rumor mode for the next three years.

1.Transformers for 2013,sure it's a clone of the ride in Hollywood and very similar to Spider Man,but it's still a new ride and will bring in the crowds.

2.London themed area for Harry Potter expansion with an indoor Gringots bank coaster and a Hogwarts express train that will connect both Potter areas in both parks

3.Simpsons land, they already had a Simpsons ride but are now creating an entire land with Simpsons themed restaurants and other attractions

The first three are under construction but there are rumors galore of other projects that could be fast tracked after Transformers and possibly even open before the Potter expansion

4.Poseidon's Fury being replaced with a Grinch or Lorax themed dark ride or coaster

5.And the last one which appears more solid than the Grinch one and just came about a couple of days ago is a major expansion of the Jurrassic Park section at Islands of Adventure to include a mine train family coaster into the mines where they discover the amber with insects with the dinosaur blood to create the dinosaurs. If that's not enough a new dark ride boarding at the JP Discovery center.

It's obvious you have Universal going all out with construction all over even a new resort also in construction and Disney taking 10 years to build an underwhelming new Fantasyland.Like I said I still love Disney and for me it's a win win because they will have to answer what Universal is doing.

Not that it matters, but I fail to see why that's relevant to chartle's point. The work site is surrounded on all sides in both cases.

However, I would assume that 24/7 7DMT access is still available via the Utilidors and that the Transformers site is not.

Lastly, I believe the original building at the Transformers site was leveled and a new one erected.

The building in which transformers is going was completely leveled and a new show building was built.

I was thinking since its all inside its would easier to work on, also its a flat ride once everything is moved in to the building no need for a crane of other heavy equipment.

Seems like the Mine Train is out in the open more and they just can't be crawling around on it for 24 hours a day.

But still much more complex a ride.
