Mine train letdown

I absolutely love the theming of new Fantasyland. The Little Mermaid queue is gorgeous. I love Gaston's area. And Beast's castle honestly might be my favorite thing to look at on property. The way it just seems painted onto the sky is amazing.

I can't wait to see it all now that there won't be any more constructing going on for the mine train!

You want thrilling rides for adults, come to Cincinnati and ride the new Banshee coaster at Kings Island. Truly fantastic.

You want a kiddie coaster that is congruous with its' surroundings, go ride 7DMT. It is also great in context. We rode it three times on our last trip. It was our twin 5yo's favorite thing we did on the trip.

I guess anything Disney does can and will be criticized. I do so, as much as anyone. But really, 7DMT is a fun ride that matches its' target audience just fine.

Just returned from 6 day stay thru 4th holiday. Rode Mine train 3 times, no FP+ available so yeah waited in long lines. Not really worth that long a wait but what is? Loved the ride but of course it is too short. What good ride is truly long enough? I think it hits target audience really well. Ride is fun, fast, smooth. Theming is well done for queue and ride and setting. Overall, was a little underwhelmed with overall FL expansion. But with all the crowds it is difficult to get a good feel and would probably get a better feel with less crowds and personal time to explore.

I find most of the theming of the new Fantasyland to be underwhelming. The Dumbo area is just aweful. Little Mermaid queue is very well done...in fact, far more enjoyable than the ride itself. Gaston's area is cool. Beast's Castle is pretty much the joke of NFL. Was expecting something bigger than a cake topper. :)

7DMT...I really like it for what it is. Definitely targeted to small kids, but able to be enjoyed by everyone. Probably worth a 30 minute wait, but that's because we have passes and go often. If I was visiting, would wait longer for it. Wish the dark ride portion was longer, but what is there is well done, though imho the projected faces on the dwarves seem like a cheap substitute for real animatronics.

Agree on Mermaid. We loved the little crab hologram in the queue. Glad we rode this late night no line. Def geared towards young ones.

I actually liked the projected dwarfs faces. At that ride speed, animatronics would be a waste. IMHO

Comparing this to Dumbo is not really fair. Mine Train is the most hyped and biggest edition ride to the park since Splash Mountain. That's a long time. I knew it wasn't going to be a real thrill ride, but if they were going to make it as tame as it is, then it should have been much longer with a lot more dark ride scenes. It's basically a 30 second long Peter Pan.

I think it is meant for kids, and my DD loved it. It's what I expected, as she was entertained and thrilled, and because of that, I had a great time on it.

I expected it to be between BTMRR and Barnstormer, and I think that's exactly what it is, just very well themed.

I think that New Fantasyland is cute. I can see that young kids will love it. I don't think Little Mermaid is worth standing in line for more than 20 minutes. I have yet to do Enchanted Tales or 7DMT. The area is excellent though very well themed. The merchandise is different and not your standard Disney merchandise although there is some.

BOG is very good and again the atmosphere is really great.

It's cute but I am not OMG this is so great.

It isn't suppose to be a thrill ride. It's suppose to be fun for small children. The park is primarily designed to be a place for families of all ages to enjoy. I haven't been on it yet, but I am not expecting much except to see a Snow White and Seven Dwarfs themed ride. We rode the new Dumbo shortly after it opened, it is the same as before just doubled so more people can ride. I am looking forward to eating at BOG and ejoying the rest of the area.

I'll disagree sort of. Yes, it is a fun for SMALL children but I'm starting to notice it is a place for families of all ages EXCEPT tweens/teens MK has a nice nostalgic factor but even the coasters don't crack the top 100 in the world which doesn't give it the something for EVERYONE.

The ride is definately too short. I wasn't expecting thrills or big drops but Splash mountain has more interesting rooms to look at while 7DMT has two.

We have to go elsewhere for things that appeal to the thrill seekers with us.

Actually, I'll edit my last post. It IS DIsney's fault for making more casual fans who don't pay such close attention think that it's gonna be a big coaster.

But no one who posts here (or who follows Disney news at all) should be able to use that as excuse.

It's funny how people's view of this Board changes as it fits their need. At times, this is a "tiny sliver of a percentage of all the people who go to WDW and what people think here doesn't matter one bit." Other times, "Everyone in the world should have known, based on what has been reported here, that the 7DMT was going to be tame." Let's put this into perspective. There are three categories of people who will ride the ride:
  1. People who arrive at WDW and didn't even know that there was a new ride.
  2. People who arrive who have heard a bit about the coaster and have seen the sunglasses commercial that shows the ride going 60 mph.
  3. People who have visitied numerous websites over the past two years learning everything they possibly can about the new ride.

Guess which group is the smallest, by orders of magnitude. Yup. Number 3. It borders on insulting for people here to accuse others of having unrealistic expectations of the ride of the rider falls into categories 1 or 2. If everything one knows of the ride came from TV commercials, unrealistic expectations are completely understandable.

I personally don't wait over 30 minutes for many rides....characters yes, but not rides lol!

When hearing about mine train in progress, I did think that they cars were going to rock back & fourth a little more wildly than they did, but the thing that made New Fantasyland AMAZING for me was the detailing. It's that you walk through that castle archway/wall and you're literally transported into Belle/Ariels/Dumbo's world! It's completely magical in that way, you are walking through a movie, the tavern's there, the popcorn stall is nicknamed as one of maurice's inventions, the music pumped throughout the areas is all fitting, there's freaking peanuts embedded into the ground at circus.

The best part of the mine train was definitely the indoor animatronics! They were done beautifully, but I do wish MK had gotten another more "thrill" ride.

I rode this in June using Fast Pass +, thought it was an ok ride and I would do it again, but not with the wait times that I was hearing and seeing, 90 mins +. If I would have waited that amount of time for it I would have been very disappointed. Would I ride it again, yes with 15 min wait time or less. I wouldn't use Fast Pass + for it again.

I agree with you on Little Mermaid, the queue is great but that was the ride that I was less than thrilled with!! I loved it of course but I thought that some of the animatronics weren't too great!

Where we disagree is on Beast's castle! I think that is the most beautiful thing on Disney property!! It wasn't supposed to be so big that it overshadowed Cinderella's castle!! If you've been inside...holy mother of Disney!! It looks like they pulled it out of the movie!!

On SDMT, I agree it's too short but that's just because I love it so much!! I still love it as long as it is and I waited 75 minutes at the 24 hour Soft Opening of it!! I will be FP+ing it in the future if I can and riding it at MNSSHP!!

We just returned from WDW and went on Mine Train for the 1st time. We loved it! I had read on a different thread about "drops" on the ride and I questioned that on the thread because I am not a fan of drops. So I went into this ride a little unsure, but if you sit in the front car the "drops" are not drops at all because it goes down very slowly (feeling like the brakes are on). I think if you were in the back car, you'd whip down more. I think the person who commented about "large drops" must've been sitting in the back! We sat in the front all 4x we rode it and loved it. DH wanted to sit in the back, but the rest of us said no thanks:thumbsup2.

I agree it's too short -- do wish it was longer, even if to go through another scenic part just to look around.

I'm always confused by the complaints that it's too short.

EE: 2min, 50sec

Space Mtn: 2min., 35sec

BTMRR: approx. 3min

RnR: 1min, 22sec

Why does this have to be any longer? Most coasters are short. You can cover a lot of track in no time at all.

I think a lot of people had hoped that the inside/theming part- was going to be REALLY extensive- like Splash is with multiple rooms. It's 30 seconds of animatronics- not really any WOW factor there IMO

I'm just logging in to register that I rode the SDMT with my wife and two 20-something kids. We all enjoyed a great deal, and both of my kids particularly enjoyed it. Nobody other than me had any expectations at all, other than it was a new ride at WDW. I was the only one in our group to have looked at videos or paid attention to any of the stuff from the press opening. And I wasn't disappointed either.

Not arguing with anybody ... just logging an observation.

I agree with those who pointed out that this is Fantasyland, which has always been geared to the younger set. I don't like drops, though I will do BTMR once a trip (regretfully, the older I get ;) ) and I am looking forward to the new coaster.

I love the new expansion in FL.

My kids are older, so there's not much new there for them - but we didn't expect there to be.

And, on the topic of ride length - Soarin' is one ride that I feel so sorry for anyone waiting for more than 30 minutes for. That is one quick ride!! I love the ride, but it is not worth a long wait, imo. But I don't want to wait longer than 30 minutes for ANY attraction - even my favorites! :thumbsup2
