Mine train letdown

Well, you can't blame me. I tried to tell you all just how short the ride was and "how little dark ride portion" there actually is in this ride way back in February.

It's like finding a black fly in your Chardonnay.

What I didn't consider was just how bad the sunlight affects the final scene where SW dances in the cottage at the end to where it's completely wasted.

You can't blame a guy for trying. :rolleyes1

I remembered that thread when all this "you shouldn't have expected so much" indignation started. It's funny to look back on it and see the usual suspects insisting it was going to be an E ticket attraction to rival some of Disney's new overseas theme park attractions and the Universal Potter stuff.

The funny part to me is that some of the same people are now gleefully taunting you on other threads because they are happy that Disney doesn't have to do anything special to stay ahead.

I said this already in other threads when the same subject comes up. Disney didn't hype this ride, the fan community did. And fanboy expectations got only higher as everyone waited seemingly forever for it to finish.

The ride was always targeted to a young audience, and it pleases the vast majority of that demographic just fine. Anyone expecting 60mph, EE, or even Big Thunder-type thrills wasn't paying attention and got caught up in the fan hype.

I guess you haven't seen the current marketing for this ride. The billboards around Orlando have a pic of the mine train cars with swoosh marks that makes a casual person think this is a fast ride. It's the same pic that is on the MK park guide and new Fantasyland guides at MK park entrance.

That has been the tactics of a few here hasn't it? First go on and on about how great the new ride will be and then backpedal and say that it didn't need to be all that great anyway.

I'll reserve judgment until we ride it but it's a shame that some people are disappointed.

Swoosh marks on a static picture of a roller coaster, however tame? How dare they. The nerve. Ridiculous. Maybe they added smiles to the riders too, because they can't possibly be happy at only 25mph.

Fans made this out to be more than it is. Far, far more so than Disney itself.

I completely agree. If Comcast hadn't bought Universal then I really doubt they could have survived. I have faith in Abrams. He is talented. I really enjoyed his Star Trek reboot in 2009. I'm a big fan of SW (stood in a line 3 blocks long back in '77) and I think he will do an admirable job. I thought Lucas knew what he was doing too, though. One can only hope that Jar Jar Binks doesn't make a cameo.:lmao:

Jar Jar Binks, the words that bring any SW fan to their knees. I think Lucas got complacent. Where as I think Abrahams know he has a lot of weight to bear and MUST deliver, I really really realllllly hope I'm not eating my words in a few years and he goes over the top.

See I never was a fan of Star Trek until his 2009 film. Since than I've been watching all the old stuff when I get time. Also to be fair to Lucas I do think he redeemed himself with Episode 3 fantastic movie IMO. Was it as good as the originals? No, but I just chalk that up to nostalgia.

I wasn't disappointed because it was tame, I mean, it is a kid friendly ride, I expected it to be a "junior coaster." The theme and technology was great. BUT I was disappointed in the overall length of the ride. Maybe if they had more time inside a larger mine/cavern with some added effects like they used to have at the Nature's wonderland ride at Disneyland. To me it just needed more, not thrills, just more.

A co worker recently got to ride the mine train and had mixed reviews. She liked that it as tame, fun to ride without losing her lunch. :rotfl She was expecting lots more theming akin to splash. They rode it once & said no way were they going to stand in long lines again. She & her family love Splash. Some nice drops but awes-um music & a great drop at the end. Considering how long it took to build sounds like a fun ride that was stretched for alot of reasons.

At least my expectations aren't very high for when we go this fall! I've been disappointed in the direction WDW has been going in the last couple years. I will reserve judgement for the new changes until I experience them.

Just returned from 18 days at WDW. I'm probably going to be bashed for this but...I wouldn't wait over 30 mins for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We rode it twice using FP+. The second time was a better experience, but it's over in a couple of minutes and there is nothing IMHO great or exciting about it! I know it's suppose to be a family friendly ride and I like that, but..where is the WOW factor? The whole Fantasyland expansion to me is just a disappointment :(

We loved it! It's a fun, smooth ride and the theming was very cute. :confused3

Best time to go is last week of August, would practically be no wait times anywhere :)

Right idea, but I think this and Anna/Elsa will see long lines for the foreseeable future, no matter the season. Time will tell. :goodvibes
