My DH is AGR Army. He is the AATARS Manager at the Training Academy at Ft. Indiantown Gap in PA- 23 years in so far and will retire at 30. We have been members since early 2010.

AF retiree here. Bought when still on AD. Thanks to all vets and those currently serving.

Bought into DVC in 2006 (SSR). DH retired from USMC last summer! :cool1: In all our years in the military, I don't think I ever met another DVC member in uniform.

Our son just finished up security forces training for the Air National Guard for NH. First Drill is this weekend.

DH is in the Army, 5th Brigade Operations SGM. Retirement is just around the corner for us.
Our DS will be shipping out to basic training in November, will be training to become an unmanned aerial vehicle (Drone) pilot in the Army.

Bought in 2002 after our first visit. We took my parents and brother when they first offered the Salute to Heroes and all stayed at All Star Movies.
Own at BCV and SSR.
Have never met another military member who owns DVC.

Thank you all for your service. You are all the reason we have the freedom that we have!

First let me thank you all for your service.

Second let me ask, have any of you current or former military folks ever utilized Shades of Green? Way back when I was a civillian employee of the DoD, which made me eligible for Shades of Green. I didn't get the same rates active or retired military did, but the rates were still great. Very low at Shades of Green itself, and a hugh discount on "overflow" rooms at other Disney resorts, which is what we mostly used. We seriously looked into (and purchased) DVC once I lost that eligibility and I was forced to look for more cost effective Disney lodging options. Had I remained a DoD employee I don't know if we ever would have gotten DVC.

If you had used Shades of Green, was it tough to decide between using what was available through Shades of Green or buying DVC?

We did stay at SoG a couple of times, but we wanted larger accommodations with a kitchen, along with easier access to decent food options. SoG is an awesome option, but for us we wanted something more.

We've stayed at Shades since we bought DVC, usually when we run out of points! We really either didn't know much about SoG or it wasn't available when we first considered buying, I'm not sure which--we bought in 1999. We still prefer our DVC, mostly for the location--we own at BWV and BLT. But you can't beat the room sizes at SoG!

I've used SOG since buying DVC. Like PP it's usually when I'm out of points or am saving them up for a larger unit or longer vacation. I like SOG a lot.
