Military Discount question....

I don't know if that would work. When we activated our tickets at the Epcot ticket window, we all had to be there and we all had to show our IDs at that time - DH's military ID, my DL, and my mom's DL. We also signed the back of the pass cards.

You are correct. Everyone must show their military id at the ticket window when the tickets are activated.

Not true. My sister was not there either of the last 2 times when I activated the tickets. She arrived the day after we got there. Also, not everyone has military IDs that are able to use these tickets. The only Id I have ever had to show is my own being the eligible member (100% disabled Veteran). I did have to give names and personal information on the other people and they just wrote the names on the tickets. I did this in 2009 and 2010.

I also had them activated in DTD at guest services.

But SOMEONE has to have an eligible ID when you activate the tickets. That is why it would not work for someone in the military (or a dependent) to buy these tickets and then the receiving party travel without the servicemember or dependent. Once the tickets are activated, (and I think you are all *supposed* to go together, but we've never had a problem if one of our party was not there due to sleeping in, arriving the next day, shopping, whatever), then you are set.

Regardless of IF there is a way around the rules (by having a military member or dependent friend activate extra tickets on their trip earlier in the year so you can get the discount later in the year on a separate trip), I find it shameful, disrespectful and just plain wrong that anyone would actually do it.

I know the OP said she would get her tickets a different way, so I'm not shaming her.

God bless you and your DH's for all they do.

I would have given almost anything for today's technology when I was pregnant with our first child 38 years ago. My DH was in the Navy and his ship was deployed with 10 days notice. I found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks after he left. We survived 6 months on letters and 2 brief phone calls. We considered ourselves fortunate his time was up 6 weeks before our son was born, so he flew home. He had the chance to stay in until the ship returned but refused so he could be with me. HUGS to you all and I pray for your other half!

Thank you so very much, both for your kind words and your sacrifice as well. Yes, the technology is amazing and I am thankful for that. I can't imagine how it was years and years back, not knowing if your loved one was safe and only relying on letters. I know that some people still can't have communications with their loved ones daily or even weekly due to them being not on a base, like the soldiers in Afghanistan that are in the mountains. So very sad.
