Miley Cyrus engaged

I think it's possible to get married at a young age and be happy and stay married for many many years.

Miley and her fiance have been dating for 3 years which means, since she was 16. How many guys could she have dated before 16? I dunno, maybe for a celebrity like her, she's dated a few guys, and maybe she's mature beyond her years, but seriously I'd be surprised if it lasts, with all of the Hollywood influence, etc. Lots of drama in Hollywood. dang....not to sound catty, but he could do better. :rolleyes1 Well played, Miley, snagged yourself a hot Aussie! :thumbsup2Oh well~I wonder if she was following the gluten free diet /losing all that weight for the upcoming nuptuals?

I was also engaged at 19 (two years before we got married). We celebrate our 20th anniversary today!

I met my hubby in February of my 18th year and married him that same year. We are celebrating 16 years today, too! Congrats, Mickeyboat!

Frankly, when someone immediately brings up "there must be a baby on the way" talk, I want to slap them (not you specifically, whoever originally said it here, but in general). It's incredibly rude to just assume that I must be marrying someone because I got 'knocked up', rather than that I am ACTUALLY IN LOVE. When I told all of my friends that I was getting married, every single one of them assumed I was pregnant, one offered to get me an abortion and they ALL tried to talk me out of getting married (one even said I was stupid for getting married - I haven't talked to her since).

Yes, I know that we are beating the odds by being married for so long, but so what?!? Even in 'this day and age' there is such a thing as true love and people who WORK at a marriage to keep it together, rather than wiping our hands of the whole thing and going 'oh well, I guess we'll get divorced'.

Okay, soapbox over. I sure hope Miley can make it work!

Best wishes for them!
In Hollywood I guess marriage at 19 isn't abnormal.

Ahem. I'll take glass houses and stones for $500 Alex.

Florida's law regarding teen marriage.
If a teen is under eighteen (18) years of age, but older than sixteen (16) years of age, a marriage license can be obtained with parental consent. If a parent has sole custody or the other parent is dead, the permission of one parent is sufficient. If a person is under the age of 16, the marriage license has to be issued by a county judge, with or without parental permission. If a minor's parents are both deceased and there is not an appointed guardian, he/she may apply for a marriage license. A minor teen who has been previously married may apply for a license. A minor who swears that they have a child or are expecting a baby, can apply for a license if the pregnancy has been verfied by a written statement from a licensed physician. A county court judge may at his/her discretion issue or not issue a license for them to marry.

Slap away slap away. I firmly stand behind what I said

DH and I married when I was 19 and he was 22. People asked if I was pregnant. Oddly many of our friends were having babies while not married but we were married and not pregnant.

We are still together 26 years later. As for Miley and Liam, I wish them luck but will be surprised if it lasts.

That's not because of their ages (which are not that young to get married IMO) but because of their celebrity and all the problems that go with it.

I also got married young (at least it was considered young in my circle of friends) and I had been dating DH since I was 16. We are still married (and no...I did not have a baby until we were married over 2 years...and yes, people were rude enough to ask).

In an interview Miley states how she gets bored really easily, how a lot of things irritate her...(well, she says Liam doesn't) but as an outsider looking in, guess I would put those words in the caution bank. However, both are adults, and in the celebrity world I guess even *older* due to the nature of the biz. Good luck and wishes to them, it would be nice to hear of a celebrity couple beating the odds these days.

I could care less about Miley, but I must say that she will have one HOT brother-in-law!

I agree..especially with the bold. I started dating DH at 16 as well only we didn't have a child until after 10 1/2 years of marriage (deliberately chose to wait that long).

I do think the odds are against them not because of their ages but because they are celebrity/Hollywood couple and those marriages rarely make it long term.

good GOD I had no idea that his brother was THOR!!! :faint: WOW!!

there'sa 3rd brother too, Luke...I *think* he is a tv actor in Melbourne, and taken, sigh.
I still stand by my above comment...seriously, no need o rush into marriage, there's a LOT of fish in the sea ;)

It will be the first of 50293050392 marriages. :rolleyes1

And her daddy "might blow up and kill this man...whoooooo"!:rotfl:

I've been with my DH since I was a teen. Sometimes it does last. i wish them both the best of luck :thumbsup2

It is funny to read of people who mention that they too were married at age 19, and are still married years later, since this has nothing to do with two young kids in Hollywood. Hollywood and the real world are lightyears away from each other!

Sure people get married very young, of which age 19 is, but the average age of marriage here in Canada is approaching close to 30. I can't imagine being married at age 19, considering I was in university at the time! LOL!

Miley does not live in our world. She grew up fast, and seems to be racing through life.

Hopefully they are ready for marriage, since I consider it to be the hardest thing I have done in my life. Harder than parenting...

Why is it funny for you to read? It's hard for some, not as hard for others. As I said, I wish them luck. I may work, it may not. That's life, whether it be in Hollywood or not.

It's funny because one has nothing to do with the other. Just because you may have gotten married at age 19, has no bearing on whether my marriage at age 19 will be successful or not.

Successful marriages are determined by a host of factors, of which age could be one of them.

If Miley is mature enough to be married and stay married in Hollywood for the long haul, then that will be considered a success in and of itself.

I do believe though that age in terms of a person's maturity has a lot to do with whether marriages are successful or not. And most people I know at age 19, are definitely not anywhere near mature enough to be married.

That's great that some people were married at age 19 and have successful marriages, but that is not something that I will encourage for my children at all. That being said, Miley is in a different place than most 19 year olds, in that she has money, big house, cars, etc. in terms of financial security, and she also has been living on her own for several years now, so for them as a couple, they have probably already been living together, so getting married may not be that big of a step for them.
