This vent is really about my sister and brother-in-law. They were just here from Seattle for a 10 day visit. My sister wanted to go to Disneyland and her husband hadn't been in 30 years so I was excited for him to see all the changes. I booked us a room at DLH and two ECV's. My sister is in a wheel chair and unable to walk. My brother-in-law can walk but very slowly and not very far due to bad knees and bad back (years of being a long haul truck driver). I booked ressies at Blue Bayou and off we went.:cool1:

Our first stop was the hotel to check in and get their EVC's. This went very smoothly. We headed over to CA. Even with the EVC's they went slow, looking at everything. I told myself to be patient, it's not all about the rides, they want to look at everything. I had bought 2 day park hoppers. That ended up being quite a waste of money.

We went to CA about 11:30. They wanted to eat right away. I talked them into at least waiting till we did Soarin'. We waited 35 minutes, not too long. I got fastpasses so we could go again without waiting. They loved it, so I said "do you want to do it again", "nah", they said, let's eat. So we ate. After that we went to Grizzly run. My brother-in-law went on that and we both got soaked. It was fun. Well that was pretty much the end of the fun. We headed to Carsland, they loved looking at stuff but no desire to ride RSR which was something I really wanted to do. I felt the line was too long for me to ask them to wait for me to ride it.They had no interest. Okaaay. We headed to Bugsland because my sister wanted to see Bugslife. They enjoyed that, then they were done!!!!! They were done! I bit my tongue and wondered why I bought park hoppers.

So we went back to the hotel where we rested. I made reservations for Rainforest Cafe because they thought it looked like fun. Actually our dinner and service was great. The service was quick, we got in right away and our waitress was always right there. We went back to the hotel and I planned to go swimming, my sister noticed she didn't pack her insulin syringes. So we spent an hour talking to various people but no one had any. Or if they did they weren't giving us one. The hotel sent me to CVS who also would not sell me one. CVS sent me to Walgreen's who did. By the time I got back to the hotel it was almost 9:00 and my brother-in-law was in bed.

I ordered room service for breakfast so we could get an early start. They are morning people anyway. That went fine. Room service has always been great there and on time. We ate and headed out to DL. It was pretty crowded from the start but they wanted to go on smallworld which never (almost never) has a line. We did that, we did pirates, we did Buzzlightyear, and that was it for rides. I had made ressies at Blue Bayou and it was a very nice lunch. We headed our about 1:30 and went to Downtown Disney to shop. We headed home (San Diego) at 3:00. I can't tell you, or need to tell you how much this little 2 day adventure cost me as I paid for everything. My sister and brother-in-law have no idea I was disappointed. Mostly because I didn't want to spend the whole time eating and shopping. We could do that here in San Diego. I should have just got a one day ticket and spent the first day eating and shopping and the next day at Disney. So now I'm broke and I still didn't get to ride RSR. Oh well.:confused3

Sorry to hear that. It's hard when people don't "vacation" like you. That's why we don't go on any trips with anyone.
Eating is the last thing I care about when at DL. ( or shopping)
That was so generous of you to pay for them and be the tour guide.
Will you take me next :)

How disappointing! Sounds like one of my bad dreams where I'm at DLR and I can't seem to get on the rides. :crazy2:

I get the feeling that the most disappointing part is that they didn't really seem to appreciate all the expense and effort you went to. Well, you did it once and now you know not take them again. Just curious- did they say they had a really good time or was it just so-so for them?

We spent one of trips with friends like that. They wanted to spend almost the entire time shopping. Even during the time when they did the Holiday Tree lighting, snow on Main Street and Holiday Fireworks. I stood on Main Street and watched it with my girls, while my friends shopped. They missed it all.:( It was frustrating, but we have annual passes so I was not at a loss financially.

How disappointing! I bet if there is a next time with them, you will be having them pay for their tickets and you will do something like "Meet us at the Blue Bayou at 11:30." ;-)

I can totally see that you are disappointed. However, I am going to play devil's advocate. You got to spend time with them and they got to do things they liked to do. If something awful were to happen tomorrow, you would never regret that you spent that money and didn't get to ride RSR. You would be grateful that you had gone with them and spent time with them.

Sorry about your trip. I would have been so disappointed, too. Next time, take me and we will ride it all and see it all!:thumbsup2

I can understand why you would feel frustrated but I do want to say this was very kind of you to do and though I do not know you can appreciate the time and care you spent arranging this.

It can be very difficult to trip with others..I personally know the feeling.

I have WONDERFUL friends in SoCal I adore..but they definitely have different ideas of what they like to do versus us , which is perfectly fine but as we don't live an hour away we tend to want to do more. Even though they are Premium AP holders they seem to go more when we are around..:confused3

I have a pair of friends who I think like to stop and eat every few hours while I can go all day..lol.

it's just different strokes..Sorry you encountered this though.

Oh no, I am soooo sorry. :( I would have been SOOOOOO FRUSTRATED. It's very disappointing when someone is passionate about something and "all in" and others are happy to just skim across the top. UGH....

I'm very sorry this did not turn out like you had hoped. And I'm sorry you didn't get to ride RSR. :(

FWIW, their version of fun at Disneyland is very similar to my brother and sister in law. And I live up here in Tacoma, while they live in Chula Vista. We're the opposite. :)

I should have just got a one day ticket and spent the first day eating and shopping and the next day at Disney. So now I'm broke and I still didn't get to ride RSR. Oh well.:confused3

But it doesn't seem like they *could have* done all of what they did inside of one day. It sounds like they were enjoying themselves, but just couldn't do a whole lot. Back to my sibling; he refused to consider FPs until he had known about them for 4 years. He would rather do far less than go back and forth. He is totally content to do a few rides and go home.

It's too bad you guys couldn't have had more honest conversations; I suppose there is a good reason you didn't share how much it was and/or how much you wanted to do other things. I assume there's a reason you didn't say "you guys shop here and here, and I'm going to do the Single Rider line for RSR b/c I'm dying to ride it". No matter the reasons, now you know that their style is very different from yours.

It's definately difficult doing a vacation with other people as we all have a different definition of how we spend our time on vacation. I guarantee that if it was you, me and my wife, you would not have been disappointed. We do it all!

Aww..im sorry this happened. I would be totally bummed as well...

We have a trip planned for August. Another family was planning on joining us. (our daughters are BEST friends) They have 3 kids, the littlest is 3....and a royal spoiled little thing.... I am SOOOO glad they cancelled their trip with us! It would have been miserable!!

Next time, take me!!! We would have a blast!! :rotfl2:

Oh gosh, I would have been so disappointed as well! It's hard not to build up expectations when you put together a fun, expensive trip like that, and when it falls so short of what you'd hoped it would be, how can you help but feel just a little...cheated or something?

Don't worry! I think most DISers would understand your dismay. I think it's wonderful that you provided your sister and BIL with that opportunity, though, and they very well may be gushing to each other about what an awesome time they had. I'll bet you made some truly great memories for them.

Only if you promise to go on some rides.:)
