A couple of questions...
1) Which side of the aisle was it that called for the creation of a DHS, with all of the various related governmental agencies reporting into it (i.e. the genesis of FEMA supposedly getting lost in the shuffle)?
2) Who initially resisted the move?

Prove my point. Put a good idea in the hands of someone who doesn't believe in government and you get.......drumroll, please.........bad government. You just don't get it. This is the perfect example of bad government.

It started out with a president who believes government is the problem and failed to take the postion of head of FEMA seriously. Would someone who believed in the institution of government have been so cavalier over qualifications? Who expected Bush to appoint an Arabian horse lawyer to head FEMA? That's bad government.

This entire incident is the walking-talking poster child for bad government. It could've worked. It wasn't a priority for the Bush administration to make it work because........drumroll, please........government is bad and government cannot help solve problems. So anyone could've done the job and an incompetent was appointed. And it's been downhill from there ever since.

As usual, you're missing the point. It isn't the institution of government that is bad, it's the individuals running it.

And NOLA got a Mayor that used to be on cable TV.

And your point is what? The mayor of New Orleans is an elected position and head of FEMA is an appointed position.

Nagin has to answer to the people of New Orleans and Bush has had to answer for his appointment of Brown.

According to you, if people just believe in government, it will work well. So how does this explain the incompetence and bad government at the state and local levels of Louisianna?

Does that mean that he thinks government is bad, and should be drowned in a bathtub?

Bet, you surprise me in that you've never heard of that quote.

That quote comes from Grover Norquist, one of the founding fathers and philosopher kings of the modern conservative movement. And he's also a close friend of Karl Rove's.

It will work a hell of a lot better with someone who believes in it versus one who doesn't.

It's such simple concept, I'm surprised it has to be explained.

And you're still stuck on the position that all of this was due to local and state government. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

I know exactly where it comes from. Ever heard of sarcasm? It's used a lot around here.

Nope, I'm not stuck in that position. I think it was a failure on all three levels. You're the one who seems stuck. So explain to me how it works a hell of a lot better with someone who believes in it. There was failure at every level.

That he's probably just as unqualified as Brown. The means as to how they were placed in to their positions is irrelevent IMO. Either they can do the job, or they can't.
