Rain sodded Florida -- well its being a very wet summer in Florida this year and theres more to come. Tropical Storm Henri -- A tropical storm warning was issued for Florida's west coast from Englewood south of Sarasota north to the Aucilla River in the Panhandle, about 20 miles southeast of Tallahassee. The warning was narrowed by about 60 miles late Thursday, having previously extended to Indian Pass near Apalachicola.

Tropical storm warnings mean that tropical storm conditions -- including wind speeds of at least 39 mph -- are expected within 24 hours.

At 8 p.m. EDT, the depression had maximum sustained winds near 35 mph -- just shy of the 39 mph threshold to be a named storm. It was centered about 150 miles south-southwest of Apalachicola and was moving eastward at 7 mph, with a turn to the east-northeast expected by Friday evening, forecasters said. Forecasters said rain, not winds, was the main concern, unwelcome news in Florida cities that have had incessant summer downpours. The rainfall in Orlando and Tampa in August nearly doubled their historical averages for the month.

``We're certainly not pleased about the weather,'' said Twis Hoang, spokeswoman for waterlogged Osceola County south of Orlando. ``It's going to make some lives uncomfortable, but we're prepared to deal with it the best we can.''

Forecasts call for 10 to 15 inches of rain with even more in isolated areas through Saturday  . Also expected is coastal storm surge flooding of 2 to 4 feet above normal tide levels.

So i'm thinking of buying some Wellies for my Hols :p

jj.......

:( Oh sorry to hear about that, JJ. Best pack your ponchos, too.

It's either bush fires or rain over there this summer. Problem is they could do with some decent rain, just not when you're all away (or me for that matter).

Hope it brightens up soon for you to go.

hiya jjcollins,

When was your forcast for?? im traveling from belfast to florida on sept 19 , i suppose it will still be rainy then.

steve

Hi steve, That forecast was for the last few days.

Tropical Storm Henri weakened into a tropical depression Saturday morning and was moving quickly across the state, sparing much of the soggy ground from another drenching, forecasters said. The state's Gulf Coast appeared to escape the flooding originally forecast, with only scattered reports of streets being covered with a few inches of water. There were no immediate reports of homes or businesses being flooded.

The depression had sustained winds of 30 mph, below the 39 mph minimum threshold for tropical storm status. The National Hurricane Center in Miami discontinued all tropical storm warnings for Florida.

At 8 a.m. EDT, Henri was centered about 30 miles west-southwest of Orlando and was rapidly moving east-northeast across the Florida Peninsula at 20 mph, forecasters said. It was expected to cross the state and emerge over the Atlantic Saturday afternoon.

Steve you can look up the weather forecast for the next 15 days here http://wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/local_index.asp?zipcode=32801&partner=accuweather

Fingers well and truely crossed. I've been following the weather, not sure if that's a good idea though!

The forecast for the 13th to 27th of sept is much as expected, makes getting out of bed early and into the parks early all the more important.

We came back on monday and the weather was fab. Tropical storm Henri was a shower and a bit of thunder saturday morning till 8.30am. the weather forecast is worse there than over here. every day forecasted rain and we thought wot the hell lets just carry on and apart from the very odd pour down for about an hour and we were usually inside when that happened, it was really hot or just a bit cloudy - so don't anybody worry about the weather.

Have fun - take a waterproof (which i wore once for 1 minute!)

Enjoy!

The weather will be fine for the next 15 days at least with highs of 91f and lows of 72f with a chance of late afternoon shower.
Nothing to worry about.

glad to here weather situation doesnt seem as bad as i first thought, i really cant wait to next week now.

steve

No matter whre the weather men are they seem to be of the same breed:rolleyes:

They take their forcasts so correct, yet they are nearly always off the make. Lasy year they gave the same forcast every day 30-40% chance of rain. It rarely evey happened. Yes we had a couple of major thunderstorms-this made the October rainfall above average. But we gor plenty of sun.:)
