*yaaaaaaaaaawn* :faint:

So I got back from Midnight Magic and am now running on about 3 hours of sleep at work, but Harry Potter fans?!?!

YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT!!

Of course I respect those of you who'll see it in the coming days, so no spoilers by me. I'll only warn you that the spirit of the book is there, though I, personally, felt a LOT was changed. Not for the worse, just...changed. Of course, I also just finished reading PoA for the 7th time a couple of days ago, so it was all very fresh.

I love Dan as Harry - I must've uttered to my friend atleast 87 times, "I LOVE the hair....I LOVE the glasses....I LOVE the sweatshirt....I LOVE the hero...." This, of course, is nothing new, but I really can't wait until we can pull the Ashton-Demi/Justin-Cameron thing. :lovestruc

The humor is terrific, and sometimes, if you remember to, just listen to the almost-mumbled comments of seemingly superfluous characters. It's truly hysterical. Oh, and the film itself is GREAT at being scary (fun scary, not I-Won't-Be-Able-To-Brush-My-Teeth-Cause-I'm-Scared scary....which I was after seeing Signs for some reason).

It's....just....great.

Oh, and I went to buy my tickets for tonight last night and there are three shows showing around 7:00 pm....two of them had already sold out, and the third was close to it. So if you're planning on going and can't get advanced tickets from your theater or online, GO EARLY!!!

OOOOH!! I'm so excited I could just squeal like a schoolgirl!! (Ok, fine, so there may have been squealing last night......and there may be again tonight. But it just so motivates me to work on my own novel (dusting off chapter 15!).

*sigh*

No sleep for this little wizard...but I'm quite full of magic adrenaline!! :hyper:

(PS - Please, if you respond and have seen the film, keep the thread spoiler free!! Thank you!!)

Wow great review! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! We're going tonight at 7:35. Now, normally I'd take the day off and catch the midnight show, then watch the first showing on opening day too, but circumstances here at work denied me from being able to do that this time!

I really hope that Alphonso Cuaron did the movie (and the books) justice!

How am I going to survived the next several hours! OH woe is me!

I'm very picky about the adaptations, and I definitely think he did. There are definitely a couple of things that REALLY bothered me, but they're not story related at all...I'd be more than willing to discuss them after people have seen it and I won't get accused of spoiling anything lol.

The thing that amazed me was how perfectly he captured certain things...everyone has been bragging about the dementor scenes, and yes, they're amazing, especially on the Hogwarts Express, but even "lesser" scenes were done really well, and very distinctively Cuaron. For example, (and this won't spoil anything, but may be fun to notice) as the camera pulls away from the Aunt Marge scene, the actors are set so perfectly that I really marvelled. I mean, Vernon and Petunia are outside, but Dudley's just standing there, completely focused on the tv....and as the camera pulls away, there's yet another television...it's just like was mentioned in the book. I loved that.

Also, in a couple of the things that were changed, I felt so clever to figure out how it fit into the story!! I mean, obviously, any Potter fan knows how the movies will resolve themselves, but it was just extra fun, for the first time, to try to be a super sleuth and figure out the things that hadn't happened that way in the book. You'll know what I mean when you see it, and, hopefully, you'll be "the cleverest witch of your age" too!! (And no, that has nothing to do with it....I'm just so bursting with my love of the darn movie that quotage wants to spill out... )

I'm so excited for you!! I hope you can make it through the afternoon waiting!!! :teeth:

I'm leaving in 15 minutes to catch the noon show - I pray to GOD I can get a ticket!!!

I still can't wait!

Cool!! I can't wait to discuss our theories and see if I noticed what you are talking about!

I'm kinda dissapointed that the movie is only 2 hours and 19 minutes. That seems to be small compared to the length of the last two movies and those books were shorter as well.

7 hours and 40 minutes!!!!!! ARGH!!! :)

I'm especially looking forward to seeing Buckbeak, the Dementors and Sirius! He's one of my favorite characters from the books!

I hope you can too, Stinkerbelle...I bet the afternoon/evening shows sold out first though, so I'll say a little incantation and send it your way so there'll still be tickets available.

As for the length of it...it SEEMED shorter than that. It moves sooooo quickly, I couldn't believe when I looked at my watch and realized it was more than half over. It's incredibly fast moving (which I'm curious about...my sister has not read the books, and I'm interested in whether or not the story will be confusing for people who are unfamiliar with it).

Buckbeak...you wanna know my comment about that was? lol

I said to Jen, "You know, it really stinks how they always make us want to have fictional creatures as pets." Like Dobby, the hippogriff was created so....cute?! I say that as a question because like...it's really not cute lol. And yet....

Jen's reply? "Let's wait and make sure there's a disclaimer that says 'No hippogriffs were harmed in the making of this movie'."

(There was no disclaimer, by the way....but we laughed and laughed about it anyways....)

ROFL!!! I want a Fluffy!!! I do have a stuffed one, but I want a real one! I can't wait to see Buckbeak on the screen and detail.

Yea, I'm hoping at least the DVD will have a ton of deleted scenes. I was really expecting this film to be at least 3 hours!

My DS and I saw the movie a couple of Sundays ago at a early showing in DC. I have been dying for this movie to open so I can talk to someone about it! I would like to go see it again tonight, but we just have too much going on. :(

I hope that everyone who is seeing it today has a great time!

My daughter and I absolutely LOVED this movie. By far, it was the best of the three. The kids have evolved as actors and there is SO much chemistry between them...I think they must really be wonderful friends in real life, too. The love-hate dynamics between Ron and Hermione were the highlight for me.

This movie was funny...I can't believe how they managed to put so much humor in this movie, and it worked so well. The audience was laughing a LOT. There was also a lot of serious emotion, especially with Harry. In particular, there were two scenes that were very strong. There was a lot of physical contact between the kids during the emotional parts, which was very sweet.

Theme was much more noticable in this movie than in the two previous films. But since I don't want to give anything away, I won't go in to that.

I loved buckbeak.

I thought the appearance of the dementors sucked. They looked like dummys with black tattered sheets over their heads. That was the only part that disappointed me, but I got past it pretty easily. Those creatures are the scariest things I've ever read about in any book, and I expected them to be a bit more scarey on film, but I imagine they wanted to tame it down for the smaller kids and keep this PG rated, which is all good.

And Draco finally got his! :hyper: Go Hermione!

I frickin' LOVED Professer Lupin! And Serius Black was also wonderful as was Professor Trelawny. There was a scene with her that about made me jump out of my chair! lol! Very well done.

Fred and George were better than ever. Dang, those two are seriously funny!

How much longer until movie four comes out???

Dakota: #4 comes out November 2005.

Thanks for the "no spoiler" thread. I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's fun reading your opinions without having someone tell too much about the movie.

STINKERBELLE!!!!!!!!!

You should be out by now! Did you like it? Curiousity killed the cat!!! :)

I bought my tickets online yesterday for the 10am showing on Sunday. My boyfriend and I plan on seeing on on the IMAX screen. Has anyone see it on IMAX?

I haven't seen it yet in IMAX or regular either, but we're planning on going to New Orleans next weekend and will catch it there at the IMAX. Let us know how it is there! I can't wait!

I am becoming so impatient to see the movie!! :hyper: I bought our tickets online last night, just in case and I am glad I did. We purchased them for the 9:55pm showing tonight, and I looked today and it is sold-out - as is all of the evening showings tonight. I told DH we better get there an hour beforehand just to get in line, or we will be sitting apart, or right up front - and I hate that!!!

Thanks for the no spoilers thread - I love reading the reactions of those that have seen it. I have read reviews, and they are so mixed - sometimes I wonder how they review a movie with some of the opinions they give.

It has been about a month since I read the book, so I hope I remember things as I watch the movie - I haven't read the books before seeing the movie, so we will see how I react ::yes:: I might be talking to DH during the movie, and he hates that (and I do to, but sometimes I just gotta comment on stuff in the theater!) :hyper2:

I went to the first two HP movies on opening day with my girls.
They are both seeing this one right now. One with a date - the other one with a friend.
Sheesh... who said they could grow up on me anyway?!

Guess I'll have to talk DH into going with me this weekend. Since he has not read any of the books he's not as much fun at the movie, but I suppose he'll do.;)

Sorry! After the movie I had a bazillion errands to run and much cleaning to do as I had 14 people over yesterday (Saturday) for a picnic...I've been too dang tired to log on. Yes - I was able to get my ticket no problem - the theater was quite full for a noon showing on a friday.

I thought the movie was very well played out...yes SOME deterred from the book...but this was the first Harry Potter movied I've seen AFTER reading the books. (I didn't read ANY of the books until AFTER I had seen Chamber of Secrets). So I think I was thinking too much of the order of the book.

Fred and George - holy crickey - what a couple of hotties!

The ending was WELL played out...I always loved the ending of POA...and Ron...well, he was too stinking funny!
