Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

My fiancee and I are going to be in DW for our honeymoon. Would the MNSSHP be appropriate for us (he's 30 and I'm 23). I love halloween and dressing up and I don't think he'd mind seeing a bunch of characters. I'm just debating whether or not we're too old to enjoy it. This will be our honeymoon. I'm already planning a haunted carriage ride (does anybody know anything about that)? Info on either would be great!

I felt apprehensive about spending the money for the tickets as well. I thought how exciting could a parade and show be and you get some candy. There's got to be more there than just that. But Halloween is my favorite time of year and we decided to give it a shot. It was so much fun, that we bought tickets a few days later to come and do it a second night!!!! It really is different on those party nights. The 1st night we never even made it past Adventureland and Frontierland because there was so much to ride and take pictures with characters and candy to get. My child rode BTMRR like 6 times in a row(with a small wait each time). We rode Pirates 3 times with no wait at all. We rode Splash Mountain 3 times with no wait. My kids had the time of their lives dancing with Woody, Jessie and Bullseye. My kids are really into Ghostbusters, they wore GB shirts instead of costumes. And what did my ears hear as we walked through the doors to Woody's dance party.........Ghostbusters!!!!! I started tearing up, the looks on the kids faces when they went inside, saw the characters and danced to their favorite song......priceless!!! It was soooo special.

Is $360 gonna break your budget? Then wait till another vacation. If you can swing it, do it. Take the chance!!! If you don't like then never do it again, lessons learned.

The haunted carriage ride was probably my favorite part about our trip. It cost $60 for the carriage. It's a 30 min. taped narrative of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We have 2 small kids and they were excited and a little bit scared but they didn't cry. It's in Fort Wilderness and they take you back on dirt roads through out the campground. It's a wierd feeling being in DW but you look around at one point and you look like your in the Florida swamp, but your still in the middle of it all. It's quiet and dark and there are frogs croaking. Very neat, intimate experience.

Ok, let's do some budgeting here: now how much does a single day base ticket cost? a little over 80.00? and you are thinking 60.00 is too much? May I suggest that if you do magic your way, you do it for 1 less day, then on that day have to MNSSHP? chill at the resort until you can go in at 4pm

DD and I went to our first one last year, so earlier that day chilled at the pool took a nap-we flew in early and then we went.

I love WDW and it's always magical. But I went on Oct 29 and it didn't feel crowded. we didn't do the character greetings, but trick or treating , 5 mnute wait on rides, parade, fireworks. and it was something "electric" in the air it seemed, seeing other people dressed up in costumes.

If you *love* Halloween, it's so worth it. Just the getting ready, into costumes, after a great relaxing resort day. My kids were so excited to go trick-or-treating in Disney World. The parade is awesome.
The real bummer though, is this year, toontown is gone. :(
It was so great to see all the Halloween decorations and every kid in a costume running from house to house. It was such a magical Halloween feeling.
Still...totally worth it. :thumbsup2

We have gone twice. I guarantee, when we go back for our big 5 year trip in 2013 - we'll go again.

Once in 2003:

We loved it the first time, and loved it even more the second time. The parade is fantastic and the fireworks are amazing. If you've never been, I highly recommend going.

We will be going for our first time in September of this year. I love Halloween so I wanted to try it out. I have heard great things about it and told that just try it once :)
If you can do it this year, do it. I would at least do the party once in my life.

I love MNSSHP! We don't normally get park hoppers, so we go to another park throughout the morning, like AK, then go over to MK for the party...my entire famliy LOVES the Boo to You parade! We have the music from the party and listen to it all year round.

It sounds like your mind is already made up. For us it's a must do, but I can see how it is not for everyone.

We went back in 2009. LOVED IT!! Planning another trip in 2012 that is top on our list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We spent the afternoon at the hotel and then headed in around 4.My girls were Minny and Dash(My youngest loves him)and they danced w/ chip and dale and ALice had my girls pass messages to Cinderella. The parade was so much fun.We got to hit ALOT of rides that were usually packed! My youngest loved the Haunted Mansion. She went on about 5 times that night (Oldest wouldn't so husband I took turns)

We went in early Oct. My cousin went Halloween night and hated it because of how crowded it was.

We did it fall of 2009! It was fun, the lines were ok (we thought there would be less people) and we didn't get NEAR the candy everyone on here raved about. In fact, the CM's were giving out one piece to everyone at each stop.
We did love the parade (it's a must-see), the dancing:lovestruc, and everyone dressing up:lovestruc, and all the characters. And riding the rides. We even dressed up.
My take on it? It is very expensive if you're watching your budget. It's great to do it at least once. It is Disney at it's best. However (y'all knew that one was coming), after going in 2009, if we were going back this October, we'd skip it and maybe stay another night. Or go in December and do MVMCP! I think it's really everyone's personal choice. We loved all the excitement, the music, the ghoulish cm's, and going to it at least once. But we can never do it all at Disney even though we want to.
This year? We'll be skipping MNSSHP...but our budget is going to our first ever Disney Magic Cruise in October.

Whatever you decide...everyone needs to do it at least once, but it's your vacation, so decide on where you want to splurge and GO FOR IT!:goodvibes

This is the first year I will be doing MNSSHP:cool1: My friends and I are doing as you suggested. This way, we don't feel like we are actually paying an extra $60 for the party.

My husband and I were there in late October for our Honeymoon in 2003. I regret not going to the party. You should go. I was 23 when I got married too. Have fun!

I thought the same thing, until we went this past year. It is so much fun! The fireworks are different, the parade is different, the character interaction is different. You pay for more, so you get more. I will never forget, as long as I live, the look on my 3 years old face as she walked into Woody's Dance Party and got to dance hand in hand with Woody and Jessie and side by side with Bullseye. To me, those moments made it all worth it.

I call this the Disney Magic! :lmao:

I took my kids on their first trip to DW last September and we took in the first MNSSHP of last year and we had an awesome time. We saw characters that we normally don't see. The parade was great and having my kids in costumes along side disney charcters was priceless. My daughter was so excited just to show off her little bo peep costume to Mickey Mouse, and the time Mickey and Minnie took to look at her costume and take wonderful pictures with her was worth every penny I spent on tickets. We got tons of candy and we didn't even trick or treat much at all.

We are going back this year and purposely planned our trip so that we could take in the first MNSSHP party of this year too.

We actually planned our trip this fall around being able to experience the MNSSHP. Our girls will be 10 and 8 and we really wanted to take them at least once in the Fall to experience this. My best friend was at Disney last year over Halloween and decided to not to do the MNSSHP because she felt $300 was too much to spend on their family of 5. However, she said that DTD trick-or-treating (which they did instead) was absolutely insane, the crowds were unbelievable and that they only stood in about 4 lines for candy because they were so long. She said that what she didn't consider was that lots of locals from the area would go to DTD to trick-or-treat--not that she has a problem with locals, but that it just made the crowds enormous. I think if she were to go back again in the Fall she would definitely spring for the party tickets.

BTW--we are planning to attend MNSSHP one of the nights in late September. How far in advance should we buy our tickets? My only concern with buying too early is if the weather is torrential downpours, then we wouldn't be too psyched about going to the party, and I'm assuming tickets are non-refundable.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are non-refundable. We went Oct 8-15 and bought our tickets way ahead of time. And it wasn't even close to being sold out. That being said, after I realized the chance of rain would have 'dampened' our night, I wouldn't pre-buy again unless it was closer to Halloween. I would think any day in Sept you would be fine buying the tickets there. Anyone else bought tickets in Sept and has it been sold out? I know on Fridays and Saturdays it can get busier, but I really think if you're going in Sept, you could buy them when you arrive!!!:goodvibes

We're going the last week of September and plan on buying tickets for MNSSHP. We can't wait! I hadn't even considered the idea it could rain... :headache: I hope September isn't a rainy month!:cool2:

Our vacation was late Sept. last year and we didn't have a single day of rain. Going the same time this year, so I've got my fingers crossed right along with you. :thumbsup2

I have some questions for you MNSSHP experts as I've not been before:

  • How are the crowds on the Friday evening parties in late September? (It's only on Tuesday and Friday evenings, right?)
  • Adults can or cannot dress up?

I'm torn whether to do the Halloween party or take the kiddo to Cirque du Soleil. I'm sure she'd enjoy both and we've got a TPV room so it makes it doubly undecided. She'll be 4.5 years old when we go. Y'all people talking about all the fabulous things you've done at the party aren't helping either -- or rather are, in terms of wanting to go to MNSSHP MORE than before!
