I am taking my 6 yr old granddaughter to this on Sat Oct 11. Is this a costume thing? What should I expect? What to do to make this special for her? all help appreciated!!!!

Costumes are optional...but many children (and adults) do wear their costumes!

For a 6yo, I would DEFINITELY recommend a costume. My experience from the past two years is that most kids in this age group have costumes. Not sure if she already has her Halloween costume made/bought - but a couple of suggestions:

1) Rest/nap in the afternoon - you'll want to stay til midnight if she is able.

2) It will probably be pleasant temperature this Saturday - so nothing too hot and constricting.

3) COMFORTABLE shoes! (so many girls this age wear princess costumes, and most of those come with hard plastic, heeled shoes - not a good idea for walking around the park.)

4) Make sure she sees the Headless Horseman right before the parade starts - it's my DD5 favorite part of the whole night. It happens very fast, so make sure she is looking in the correct direction just after the announcement ("...the Headless Horseman has been spotted...")

Whoops! wrong date it is Friday Oct 10th just ckd my stuff. Thanks for the help anything is appreciated. Even though I have been to WDW over 100 times I have never gone to this as our children were older and we rarely got to Fla. in the fall. I can come up with a costume for my GrDaughter - but ME? Do I need to wear one too?? I am 64 yrs old (overweight) . Not that I would be embarrassed, just don't know what to do. Is the 'headless' horseman thing a costumed person on a horse riding down main street? if so, it would be quite brief I would imagine.

My 7 year old DD and I will be going to our first MNSSHP on Friday the 10th and we will both be in costume. You might want to check the date on your tickets, as I didn't see a MNSSHP scheduled for Sat the 11th. Wouldn't want you to miss the fun!:earseek:

We went to the Halloween Party on October 3!

We had a great time and all 3 of us had on costumes: me, my husband and my 2yo son.

There were many people in costumes and the CMs seemed to take extra notice of those in costumes.

I made my son a Peter Pan costume and many of them said that he was the cutest little Peter that they had ever seen!

I think that dressing up adds to the fun of the party, but I would suggest that whatever costumes you choose that you make sure that you can still comfortably go on rides and wear comfortable shoes too.

You might want to check out Deb Will's site www.wdwig.com She has a great description of the party and events. I wear an XXL t-shirt from Old Navy--I have one that says "spooky," and another that's a spider web. Of course, MK also sells Halloween Party tees the nights of the parties.
