I'd like to make a Mickey Head Birthday Cake in a few weeks. I have round cake pans and I'd like to make two layers.

Has anyone done this? Looking for advice - I'd like to make sure I have all the ingredients ahead of time.

Thanks!

So easy it's not even funny! You just bake 2 round cakes. I use 2 different size pans. Cut the smaller cake in 1/2 and trim it to fit for the ears. Kinda like a moon shape. Frosting is great for hiding a multitude of sins to make the ears fit just right.

You'll need a good sturdy cake board. You can get a cheap piece of plywood at home depot. Cover it with foil and waxed paper. Use a dab of frosting to hold the waxed paper in place.

A different approach is to get a Mickey shaped cake pan. I have a Mickey and a Minne that I bought on eBay. It's really easy to decorate and it'll look really impressive. My mom was a cake decorator for years and I picked up some techniques from her. The Wilton website gives some basic directions for decorating techniques.
