We have promised our DD that she could buy a Mickey Balloon this trip. :cool1:

The problem is that we will be staying at AKL which does not allow them in the hotel. We did not know about this when we made our reservations.:headache:

We will be staying a couple of days off site before we check into AKL. We would like to buy her one (pop it before AKL and keep it in the car) so she can enjoy it before we go to AKL. Does anywhere else (like DTD) sell these?

I do not recall seeing them being sold at DTD.

You could always buy one that was not filled and then take it to a party store and have it filled when you return home.

I've never seen the balloons on sale at DTD unfortunately. I've only ever seen them sold in Magic Kingdom and DHS :confused3

So you cannot keep a balloon in a hotel room at AKL? I understand outside, but how odd you cannot keep them in doors! Last time I checked the animals didn't come inside :rotfl2:

Yes, you are correct. But the guests do go out on the balcony, so the balloon might, too. They are dangerous to animals.

OP, why not explain why no balloons are allowed at the AK and AKL/AKV and see what else your daughter might like instead?

go to guest services at MK and ask to have one that has not been inflated to take home.. then get it filled at home. Hope she enjoys her balloon

Thanks everyone for your ideas and help....

The last two trips DD asked for a balloon on the last day and we told her no because of the plane ride home.

We promised her a balloon this trip. She was happy with staying at AKL but was a little sad with the No Balloon Rule.

We've stayed at AKV several times, but we have never bought a balloon. However, I could swear that I heard that Bell Services will keep a balloon for you. I'm not 100% sure, so ask them before buying one.

Maybe someone else on the boards has done this and can confirm?

Will the balloon be a mylar? If so, please don't pop it. Instead, insert a straw in far enough to get past the self-sealing valve, & squeeze the helium out. That way she can enjoy it for a few days before going to AKL. Once the balloon is flat, it can be packed in your suitcase, and you can have it refilled once you're home.

I have heard this here on the boards as well, but have no personal experience.

Or you could explain how helium is a depleted resource that is not renewable and probably won't even exist in about 25 years and opt for some balloon cutouts or buy an empty one and actually use air to blow it up when you get home. I think considering while at AKL you'll be doing the whole conservation thing it really helps to let kids know what going on in the world. I'm still surprised Disney sells helium balloons since it is a fact that the worlds helium supplies are almost gone.

Just because they sell it doesn't mean we should buy it. Great lesson to teach little ones while there little.

I'm going to get 3.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Good idea.

At the Animal Kingdom (and I think at Epcot) they sell pens, paper, etc that are made out of recycled materials - paper, plastic, old tires, etc. Maybe your daughter would like something like that? And at AK, they offer you the opportunity to donate to the Animal Conservation Fund and they give you a big button when you do.

When we checked in at AKL we were told that if we bought a balloon they would keep it in a room by the front desk until we checked out. I did see a couple of balloons there with name tags on them.

We bought a double balloon with Mickey inside the clear balloon in May 2010 on first day of a 5 night trip. We stayed at AKL, had the room cleaned everyday, and no one every said anything to us about it. We even had bell hops transport it to our car and help us load it and all our stuff in. By the way that balloon lived for at least a month-no joke!!:goodvibes
Never heard this rule and it was clearly not enforced.

Seriously, I'd explain the situation to her. She's eight, right? Tell her how it is, and let her decide.
