Michigan to Disney World I-75 or I-77?

We are driving this June. I have been planning on taking I-75 down. But recently I have been hearing that it will easily add 2-3 hours to your trip taking I-75, as opposed to taking I-77.

I always thought it would be slower going through the mountains. :confused3

I like driving thru the mountains. If it is quicker, then even better. But I am not so sure it is quicker.

Anyone have any advice for me?

I really hate the I-77 mountains. Loose time going up them darn things and with the fog we usually encounter makes me nervous. Last drive trip we took from north eastern Ohio we drove to Cincinnati and took I-75 south just to skip the mountains. Flatter road, 3 lanes, was a better trip all around. Time wise..................Didn't really care, can't stand those mountains.

Not to mention you'll get better mileage on flatter I-75. For scenery, I-77 would probably be better than I-75, but for time and mileage I'd choose I-75.

Keep in mind, though, that I-75 isn't 3 lanes all the way down. In my home state of KY, it's 3-lane for much of it, but still 2 lanes in the more rural areas in the extreme southern part of the state (we're working on it!). TN is still mostly 2-lane, unless they've completed some of their construction in Chattanooga and Knoxville. GA is mostly 3-lane, except for a stretch down near the FL border, but that's extremely rural anyway.

From your city to WDW, the fastest route is via I-75. 19 hours, 51 minutes.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am sticking with I-75. Maybe we can try I-77 on the way home for the scenic view!!

A friend and I took I-77 home many years ago and it is scenic. But driving up I-95 to get to I-77 is a trip! Heavy traffic on I-77 in Columbia SC and parts of NC also. I do like the drive in WV. It was nice , but I think from MI I-75 is a straighter shot than I-77.

Have driven I77 from NE Ohio and I75 from the Lexington, KY area. 77 is more scenic and less traffic--I75 is much quicker as long as you miss the Atlanta rush hour. From Michigan-I would not even consider 77 as an option.

thanks everyone ,,just came upon this thread to get directions as i am way up in upper michigan by the bridge,,,we are going nov 17-26 taking 2 days driving each way and it looks like a straight shot on 1 75 is the best way,,any spots i should be careful of,,,thankyou

As someone else mentioned, driving through Atlanta can be frustrating at times. Be careful. We've gone the bypass and directly through downtown, and have found that neither way is faster than the other, depending on the time of day and/or the flow of traffic or accidents when you're heading through.

(Just thought I would mention that I *love* the U.P.! We're heading up there in June!)

Another vote here for I-75. Just be careful when you hit the Atlanta area.

We will be travelling through Atlanta on a Sunday afternoon. So I think we will be o.k. :thumbsup2

Sunday will be fine and i wouldn't bother with the by-pass. Susan

If you're taking 75 Dave Hunters Along I75 is a must! I buy an updated version every year we drive down. We leave June 18 :cool1:

Just looking at air fares today (WOW HIGH $$$), we are considering driving. As a kid, my family also took I-75 and Atlanta is bad either going through it or around it. What matters is WHAT time of day you drive through it.

I'm from Northern Michigan (lower Pen.) on Lake Huron in Alpena!

:car:

i am in upper michigan by the bridge,,can you tell me the rush hour traffic times,,,i would like to plan my time to miss them,,,,thankyou
