Michelle Duggar miscarries

I think its a sad state of affairs in the USA, that every time these people reproduce, it is considerd news:sad2:

Geena Davis, Holly Hunter, Jane Seymour, Kelly Preston, Nancy Grace, and Beverly d'Angelo have all given birth at Michelle's age or older, most with the mulitiples due to artificial assistance. In fact, many have openly discussed passed miscarriages. None were told it was a sign to stop trying.

I can't find any sources that say past pregnancies make it more significantly dangerous. In fact, everything I can find says each pregnancy lowers the risk of mutiple forms of cancer with breastfeeding having even more benefits.

People say it is a sign for Michelle to stop trying because she herself (and Jim Bob) has said the earlier miscarriage was a sign from God to stop using BC. Following her line of thinking this miscarriage would obviously be a sign of something too, as would Josie's birth.

If they don't want people to judge them for the way they live stop filming a reality show and stop announcing every move your family makes on a national TV show. JMO.

Babies spaced closer together than 18 months are at greater risk for premature birth and other complications. Source (I know I have read several) Michelle Duggar has 18+ months between births 4 times over the course of her 18 pregnancies. If you count from Josie's original due date, her closest gap between births has been 13 months (twice).

I am sorry she has suffered the loss of her baby. I really don't care how many babies they have. I just think my opinions and feelings about it don't really matter. I hope God comforts them at this time of great loss. I am sure losing a baby or a child period is one of the absolute most horrible things that a parent can face--whether you have no children
or 19.

This is terribly sad but completely not a surprise, by any stretch. I will pray for them, for peace, solace and for them to finally realize enough is enough.

There is no evidence she is at any more of an increased risk than any other pregnant woman her age. Why is she getting more criticism than the many Hollywood celebs who give birth into their 50s?

Also, going on the pill at her age would put her at an increased risk of a heart attack or blood clot.

Because these people are not having their 20th child.
This woman's uterus is floppy at best. She is at high risk for bleeding and every other complication you can even think of with her future pregnancies.
She could easily die because of a repeat pregnancy - due to her age and due to what she went through with the last baby. Further, by the time you hit your 20th...
Did I mention that she usually insists on VBAC even though she has had several, several c-sections? That's a high risk for placental abruption right there - where both mom and baby can die VERY quickly. If she continues this path, it is just a matter of time before either she, her baby, or both die. That's my opinion. :(
That being said - I'm sorry for their loss.

I don't think this will make Michelle stop trying to conceive. Just a guess, but I think they'd say when God wants them to stop having children, she won't be able to conceive anymore. I think they believe there's a divine reason for miscarriages (and for everything), that the first one was punishment for using birth control and this one because He decided this baby had lived long enough for His purposes, hence Michelle saying God decides how long people live.

I feel sad for them, though, because they might be suffering with wondering if they had displeased God somehow, so she miscarried.

I wonder what they thought of Anna's mis. Was it just that God decided the baby had lived long enough, that it was a punishment for something or that it was just purely medical reasons that God allowed like people getting cancer or whatever.

Any Quiverful faithful here? If so, I hope you'll explain this. I for one promise not to flame you. (You can change your name to answer this if you'd be more comfortable ;)).

They have 19 children. Her doctors have advised her that another pregnancy could be fatal to her or her child or both. I'm sorry for her loss.

I am most sorry that her 19 children aren't enough for common sense to step in. There has to be a message these children are getting loud and clear.:sad2:

Obviously, you of the mindset that Michelle should not be criticized. No evidence anyone presents would make you think otherwise.

QUOTE]

I'm of the mindset that she should not be criticized using medical inaccuracies. There is no evidence this miscarriage or Josie's premature birth are due to the amount of children she has had. The fact is that most miscarriages in older women are the result of poor egg quality.

If you want to criticize her for having more children than you deem acceptable, go right ahead, just don't use fallacy arguments to do it. Personally, as long as the children aren't being abused or a dependent primarily on the state, I won't judge. In fact, I think the world use more Duggars based on the way they conduct themselves.

I'm sure it is. They have obviously taught their children that God is in control of everything. A pretty good lesson, in my opinion.

I honestly don't care how many kids they have as long as I'm not paying for it. It's not really my business.

I'm absolutely appalled by the posts suggesting that she is at least somewhat responsible.

While I understand the "Quiverful Philosophy", I don't necessarily agree with it. I'd explain, but that would get into a religious discussion and interpretation of Scripture. I will say that my convictions are not someone else's. It doesn't make one right or wrong.

My prayers go out to her family. Miscarriages are devastating.

There are. I believe with Josie, she had to have a cerclage and that obviously didn't work, since Josie was still born so prematurely.
I didn't know that! I think that make her even more insane in my mind. She had her cervix sewed shut so it wouldn't spontaneously open and dump the baby out, that baby was born prematurely at just 25 weeks nonetheless and she went ahead and got pregnant again. She is simply bat guano crazy :scared1:.

Breastfeeding also decreases the risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Michelle Duggar doesn't appear to breastfeed for very long because she would not get pregnant again so quickly if she did (it is different for every woman and for every baby, but typically breastfeeding regularly halts ovulation) . On one episode she talked about breastfeeding for 9 months.

She has said that she can get pregnant while breastfeeding, and 9 months is an eternity compared to most mothers in this country.

They stopped using birth control because they were told by a doctor that it caused them to miscarry.

But not an eternity if you practice natural family planning. Babies should be breastfed for at least 12 months, and if she's stopping early so she can get pregnant again, that's not exactly letting God decide.

Why could she have had a ruptured uterus if she was farther along?

Dr. John B. Coppes of the Austin Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Austin, Minn. "However, I hope they are aware of the risks for Down syndrome, uterine rupture, future C-sections, pre-eclampsia."

Dr. Katharine Wenstrom, director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., rattled off a list of complications, including life-threatening bleeding during birth, risk of heart attack or stroke -- all exacerbated by multiple pregnancies.

"She has an increased risk of uterine atony, or failure, of the uterus to contract after delivery, which can cause life-threatening blood loss and may require hysterectomy," said Wenstrom, who added that women who have multiple pregnancies are at risk for a condition called placenta previa. In such cases, she said, "the placenta implants over the cervix -- also associated with life threatening bleeding."

They don't practice NFP. The AAP may recommend that babies be breastfed for 12 months. That doesn't mean it's realistic for most women or required by any specific religion. Ultimately, switching to formula isn't going to force God to do anything.

Neither of my kids were breast fed, and they were and are, as adults, perfectly healthy.

I'm going to second that (well, maybe not the adult part, yet :goodvibes ).

I couldn't nurse, and yet I had several people (including a woman who is currently pregnant with #8) tell me that I just wasn't trying hard enough. I don't know how much harder I needed to try. I wasn't making anything, and he was screaming from hunger.

I was formula fed, as well. I turned out alright other than this unhealthy need to travel to a warm climate to see a place dedicated to an overgrown rodent. ;)
