Michelle Duggar miscarries

Even though I don't agree it what they do, this is a tragic thing for anyone to go through. I really feel for her.

Maybe her bodyjust isn't up to it anymore.(And I am in NO WAY blamming her for a miscarriage)

Sorry, I find her behavior (in getting pregnant to begin with) to be reckless. She's ignored direct medical advice to stop having children, and indirect physical advice (the very premature delivery of her last baby) that her body is just not up to the task any more. So, while she may not have directly caused the miscarriage, she certainly deserves some blame in my book for created a dangerous and unsustainable situation to begin with.

I remember hearing/reading when I was in my babymaking days that there should be a year between pregnancies to get one's body back to a healthy point. Obviously, there are always examples of women, like Michelle Duggar, that it didn't matter, just like it's not healthy to smoke but you'll find smokers who live to a ripe old age. But there are any number of reasons why she may have miscarried, and most are unknown. I miscarried twice, no real explanation. I'd be concerned about her emotional state, from this point forward (if they don't have anymore kids) since so much of her identity seems to be about having babies.

Wow, a miscarriage is a death. :( I'm sorry she's had that. But she can look at her beautiful 19 kids and say they're healthy, especially Josie. Her body is probably done birthing kids.

I agree...but I don't think this a great thread to be bashing her on. A miscarriage is a horrible thing no matter who you are or why it has happened.

I wonder if she will stop trying to get pregnant? She really does seem addicted to being pregnant, obsessed with it actually, and it's so stressful on her body.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and especially that poor little soul that never got a chance.

How horrible for her. She was already in her 2nd trimester. I think the next few years may be very difficult for her if she remains fertile because of their feelings about birth control.

The Duggars certainly aren't the only people in the world who don't use birth control. It's just unusual to obtain/sustain so many pregnancies.

I think they actively TRY to get pregnant.

There are people who don't believe in "medical" birth control, but are pretty successful with "natural" birth control methods.

Well it makes me wonder if she paid attention to biology class? To have 19 kids in a row essentially and not have a miscarriage is pretty remarkable really. The odds are stacked against you when you conceive. This last kid could have had who knows what -- chromosomal disorder, ect...

Its time for them to move on, enjoy their kids and grandkids. There will always be a baby around in that family so she shouldnt worry...

My heart goes out to them on the miscarriage. However, I saw a show recently where a team of doctors talked about various medical issues. One of the doctors was asked about the Duggars. The doctor, who was an obstetrician, said that Michele Duggar came very close to dying during her last pregnancy and that getting pregnant again was extremely risky to both her and the baby.

I understand that they don't believe in birth control, but there comes a time when one needs to make a decision. Should she continue to risk her life having additional children, or stop before her current children lose their mother. Tough call.

MTE. I am truly sorry for their loss. I've known many women who miscarry & it's heartbreaking.

However, I do agree that she seems to identify herself solely as a baby maker.

Michelle and Jim Bob have always said that they believe the first miscarriage they had was God's message to them to stop using birth control and let him make the decision about how many children they have. Now they are saying that this miscarriage is because God decides how long people live before he takes them to be with him. Clearly the message had to change this time as she hasn't used birth control in years.

I feel sorry for them, I do. This will be hard for the kids, too, because they had already started planning for this baby and making it part of the family. However, she is 45 years old and had incredible problems with #19... if it hadn't been for the doctors and the advanced state of neonatal medicine, that child wouldn't have survived. The medical evidence is stacked against her. Perhaps this is God's message that enough is enough? I hope they can find peace in their hearts over this loss.

While I was less than thrilled to hear that the Duggars were expecting baby #20 last month, I have to say that this is terrible news. Even though I thought that they were pushing it with this pregnancy, I never wished any ill will on them.

I hope that they can be content with an odd number of kids rather than the even number they always desired.

Oh dear, that is heartbreaking! My heart goes out to them. I may not agree with having a litter full of children, but a miscarriage is a sad, sad thing. I wonder if they'll turn it into an episode? I hope not, it seems too personal and tragic.

I too wonder what they'll interpret this as. Like someone already mentioned, they took their first miscarriage as God being displeased with them for being on birth control. I truly hope that they see with Michelle's advanced age and the trouble they had with poor Josie, it's time to stop and enjoy the 19 they have plus the grandbabies as well.

The message didn't change. :confused3 They believe God is the one in charge of how many children they have, how long life lasts - all of it. I think it's kind of a "throw back" to Bible times before we started using birth control options to control the size of our families.

I don't believe they are necessarily "actively trying" to have babies as someone stated earlier. I believe they have sex, which can certainly lead to babies. IMO, actively trying and not working to prevent are two different things. My impression of their beliefs is that they want God to be 100% in charge of their fertility so they just go about their lives and what happens naturally happens.

I'll repeat what I said before. If she continues her current "no birth control" beliefs (medical or otherwise) she is in for a hard couple of years if her body is still fertile, yet she is unable to sustain a pregnancy. It would not be a choice I would make.

I'm sorry she lost her precious baby. she has been incredibly fortunate to have had only 2 miscarriages in however many pregnancies, however! I have had four pregnancies and 1 miscarriage. she has defied the odds in every sense and I hope she can be happy with the children she does have.
