And if the community is giving such a big party, I sure hope Vick decides to attend this time and not blow you off like he did last time.

He had a chance to teach the children in this area at the local Boys and Girls Club...but he wanted to do a commerical for PETA instead.

and Allen Iverson isn't exactly someone I'd be proud of being friends with either.

I didn't want to personally attack you on the board itself...as you did to others as that is against board rules (as is posting the contents of PM's...thus, the name PRIVATE messages.) But after what you did to PD, I had every right to tell you through PM what I thought of you.

Ok, I didnt say I was born and raised here. I have lived here for many years. I don't frequent downton Newport News, dont' have a reason too.
I wrote that Vick said he saw that behavoir as a child and the police didn't do anytning about it, which was true because they are too busy with drugs and murder down there.
I did mention that he and Marcus would bring presents to the kids in their hayday which was good, but if you are going to act like a fool the rest of the time and not do anything else for the community you grew up in, then what is the point.
As for the celebration, it was on the news that he didnt show up, and later it was said he was doing something with PETA. Once again, it was all for publicity to put him in a good light.
He did start working for the Boys and Girls club he was given an opportunity to make a difference with the youth, a huge difference dont you think? Boys and Girls club were getting more kids because their parents wanted them to see Vick and maybe learn something. That didnt happen now did it?

Just because you see something going on like drugs, dog fighting, does not mean you have to do it. You can make the choice or not.
I do care about animals, but like I said, if someone has animals fight that doesn't make them tough, it makes them a B.
Vick said he wanted to make a change, then he will be on 60 minutes talking about how football isn't that important after the reporter asks a question, ok, then why go back to football and be a slave to the money? What change can he make now? Did he pour money into the communities of downtown when he was on top? NOPE.

BTW,if you are a sports writer, you really should learn how to spell, especially your former alma mater, Bethel High School. And did you know the Bethel is in Hampton and not Newport News?

I never said BETHEL was in New Port New. However, a lot of kids from New Port go there.

Anyway, that issue with the Boys and Girls club has nothing to do with the present. We are not talking about the past. The problem that exist is dog fighting. How does that help with the issue? It doesn't. But if you want to bring that up in an attempt to prove your point, be my guess. Its very weak though.

BTW...I'm an Agent. Not a sports writer. I hate sports writers.

I also don't see anyone that is so appauled by Vick that they are saying this is what they intend to do with all the hatred they have for dog fighting. They are still just attacking Vick. Well put your money where your mouth is and go to where dog fighting is rampant and fight those people as well. I don't think they will so I don't think anyone has any room to complain about what Vick did if you aren't going to be part of a solution to a problem like this. I think he does have a better chance at reaching people that are still involved in dog fighting than your average person so give him a chance he may suprise you.

What you seem to be missing is this: He's a felon convicted of a horrific crime, whom plenty of people - including other dog fighters - looked up to. And now, he 'served his time' and get's to step right back into his 'normal' life. Do you not think THAT speaks volumes to these people you think are somehow going to change their mind set on their disgusting hobby, because NOW he says how wrong he was??? Please....

Everyone who thinks the NFL should not reinstate him or are mad at the Eagles for signing him are saying this.

His job is football player in the NFL. If no one will give him the job of being a football player that is like not letting him work. He should not have to change careers any more than a salesman who did the same thing should be told you will never sell anything again.

His job WAS football player. If no one will give him a job playing football, it is NOT like not letting him work. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there in the real world who've had to look to other, less glamorous jobs because of the economy and through no fault of their own. And a salesman who made big news for TORTURING animals would have a hell of a time getting someone to hire him to go out and try to sell to a public rightly outraged by his actions.

How do either you or agame2323 know that we AREN'T doing everything we can to stop dog-fighting? I don't feel the need to list my resume of social and charitable activities that I do for your (or anyone else's) benefit.

And there are thousands and thousands of causes out there...just because one has an opinion about a particular situation, doesn't mean they have to take action on that particular situation or shut up. (Have I mentioned this is a discussion board? ) There are many many wonderful charities out there...I tend to support the ones that have affected me in some way...The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, etc...because of how it has impacted my family. I can't support everything. It doesn't mean I don't admire the work of other organizations, or that I won't, or have no right to, sing their praises in the hope that OTHER people can and will support them. By the same token, I can't take action on everything in life that I find despicable (but still hoping to see a list of sponsors), but I can talk about. And maybe, just by talking about it, it will get others to act, or those that make hiring decisions might think twice about making a bad move such as this.
