I seen mention of a Halloween party at MGM on a couple of different boards. Any truth to it.

IIRC, this rumor first surfaced in '05. Supposedly Disney is/was considering a more adult oriented Halloween event for MGM.:confused3

I don't know that it was as much "adult" as "tween"-oriented; geared toward adolescents who find Mickey's N.S.S.H. Party too babyish, but are too young for the gore and booze of Universal's Halloween Horror Nights.

Almost all of the information about this event came from an online survey early in 2006--a survey that apparently was commissioned by Universal, given that 90% of it dealt with possible HHN themes. (They were probably trying to gauge how much business a new MGM event would take away from them.) A few inside sources confirmed that it was discussed, and if I recall correctly, someone reliable here at the DIS said it was scrapped in favor of a "Mardi Gras"-type event instead--what became the current Pirates & Princesses Party.

Universal seemed to think that the party would feature the Disney villians and characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't recall hearing one way or the other if there would have been traditional walk-through "haunted houses," but it seems likely they would have had at least one or two. For the full description of the event from the survey (it's only a paragraph), check the MGM archives at screamscape.com.

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, given the overwhelmingly positive response on the boards, I think this would be a real money-maker--WDW is crazy if they don't try it.

My DS11 would love an MGM Halloween party. He is at the age that he doesn't want to admit how great MNSSHP is. He thinks its a little kid event. He wants to go to HHN, and thinks he can handle it. I think he would be okay at HHN but I wouldn't be okay as it is really scarey. We would love an MGM party.

I guess MGM is out of the question for this year.

I wouldn't go that far--anything is possible this far out. If P&P is a success--and it's getting good word of mouth--Disney might be anxious to hold as many after-hours events as they can. I wouldn't expect to hear anything official before this Summer, tho.

Do you think if it is a go,it'll be announced with MNSSHP dates?

We first heard of this back in the summer of 2005. A CM told us they were considering it and asked if we thought there would be a lot of interest in a NBC themed after hours party in October. We told them we personally knew of at least 20 friends/families that would be interested in going. I also said that if you counted our internet friends, the number would be much, much higher.

I heard this mentioned again late last year. I will try to get some kind of update at the Pirates event in May.

There are a couple facts working against it. Disney spent a lot of money on making a 3-D version of Nightmare Before Christmas - and it was a complete dud at the box office. It didn't recove its marketing costs. Second is that sales of NBC merchandise have been falling for that last few years now (even the Hot Topics stores are getting bored with it). These two items combined with the shrinking crowds at Disneyland's NBC overlay of 'The Haunted Mansion' have probably doomed that show here. And since WDW can't even be bothered anymore with the Bear Band Holiday Show, I don't see how they'll foot the even bigger bill for the NBC overlay in Florida.

I'm really confused:confused3

What does NBC have to do with MGM. I thought NBC is with Universal, not Disney.

On the MGM party, lets not forget about Pixar. I'm sure they could come up with some Halloween ideas.

I don't think they're talking about doing an overlay. They would probably do something on the cheap - like NBC costumed characters and the like. What I heard was that they wanted to do an after hours party, not something that is available with regular park admission.

Remember, they don't do an overlay for Mickey's Halloween parties in MK so I'm thinking they would try to do something similar at the Studios. They're just trying to find some way to attract some of the people who are deserting Disney for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights.

I saw a mention of this in the 2007 Unofficial Guide. I can't imagine they would bother writing about it unless it seemed pretty likely to happen.

Oh,the've been wrong!lol
They claimed that the Haunted Mansion would get NBCmessed for the Hoilday season in the 2006 edition.
But....they metioned the tidbit about the MGM party three whole times in the 2007!
Which makes me optimistic.

Well -- kinda, but not quite. WDW has conducted research on guest feedback on MNSSHP for the last 3 years. As I understand it, those who wanted a difference experience - said so. A Halloween event has been under development for MGM for a couple years. The concept work has yet to 'gel', although I expect it will pull together this year or next and become a reality over the next 2-3 years. :)

It doesnt have to be just NBC or even have NBC included at all. There are many other villians with HUGE popularity ....not to mention they could do some scarier pirates stuff......and Star Wars ..ect....

Any word yet on if this is a go? Wouldn't they have announced it by now if it was? I really want this to happen since we will be there in October.

I don't think they'd announce it til closer to May,when the MNSSHP tickets go on sale....

I'm hoping that MGM does this. I will be there in October.

I'm on a surrey panel for Universal. I know that Universal is going to revamp their Christmas plans this year by adding attractions and themes to the Holiday party. Maybe Disney will do the same by adding the MGM Halloween.
