MGM Character Meal Update Thread

2/27/06: Two new restaurants are coming to Walt Disney World! An Asian restaurant will debut in the Village of Anandapur in Animal Kingdom's Asia in Summer 2007. It will offer both table and counter service dining options, as well as house retail space with Asian-inspired merchandise, such as sushi plates and fine teapots.

In early 2008, Downtown Disney will sport a new themed dining experience -- T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, A Place to Eat, Shop, Explore and Discover®. The restaurant will be home to life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, a dig site and much more. The table service restaurant will feature waterfalls and geysers, and, as the name indicates, there will also be a retail shop.

The opening dates of both new restaurants, which will be operated by the Rainforest Cafe's Landry's Restaurants, are subject to change.

Thank you. I did read about this earlier in the week. I thought the Lillygator's post meant two character meals.

sorry - I meant the two new ones to DTD and AK, that was all the CM had info on.

The CM I talked to had a really bad cold, and seemed pretty annoyed..............but maybe it was the cold.

She asked me to repeat myself three times, then said: We don't have any character breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, we've only ever had lunch and dinner.

When I asked if she'd heard of anything about it, she just said: Thank you for calling Disney Dining.................which is their "goodbye".

so she cut you off and didn't answer the question? That's not nice...at least my CM was very talkative and we even talked about the unoffical boards!

Thank you to all those that have called each day to inquire about this meal. I've checked this thread first each day and was really hoping to see "book now!" today. Hopefully we'll be hearing some good news soon.

Thanks again!

Yep, but again, she had a pretty bad cold. Maybe she didn't hear it? :confused3 I always like to give the benefit of the doubt!

True story: Had another teacher come up to me and say, "What did you tell (we'll call her Emma)?" I asked her what she was talking about, and she said she had a call from Emma's mom, who was furious that I told the kid to go home, that after-school activities were cancelled, and Emma had walked home alone. I told her I hadn't even seen Emma today, and I wouldn't say the activities were cancelled as I was, at that moment, tutoring through the program. I had an emotionally disturbed kid having a meltdown, and was watching him bang his head on a door, keeping him from leaving while we got the director, when Emma's grandmother came in to the school, with Emma, screaming her head off about me telling Emma to walk home alone........now, she was saying that Emma TOLD me she couldn't walk home alone, and I sent her anyway! (This was really ironic, as there'd been a thread about this very subject just a couple days before here on the DIS boards, when I'd mentioned I wouldn't SEND a kid that young walking, but if they say they are supposed to, we don't stop them). She wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise, other than "I haven't even seen Emma today, let alone talked to her"................then she started saying, pointing at the kid "She doesn't lie!" Now, what are you going to say to that? I hadn't told the kid anything, but am I going to call her a liar? No. Anyway, principal was called, and the child was finally asked (after accusations of me never liking the kid and not opening doors for her when her hands were full :confused3 ), and she said she asked me 3 times if we were having after school programs, and I never answered. Well, of course, I never knew she was asking. This is a quiet kid anyway, and I had been really busy that afternoon speaking with a couple of parents of some of my more challenging students. So, when it was pointed out that I probably didn't hear her, grandmother thanked the principal for her time, never even looked at me, and left.

Anyway, I guess I feel like telling stories today! That's why I want to say maybe this CM didn't hear me..........especially with that cold, her sinuses are probably plugged up.

Thank you DisneyFanatik for calling everyday & keeping us all updated! :grouphug:

Checking this thread is the 1st thing I do every morning after I get back home from taking DD to school. And I thought for sure today would be the day! DH even suggested that I call Disney Dining before we left this morning, just in case!

I did call Disney Dining earlier this morning to change a couple of times on two other ADR's I already had. When I was done making the changes, the very pleasant CM asked if she could do anything else for me, and I answered, "Not unless you can schedule an ADR for me at the new Toy Story character meal!" :teeth:

And she replied that she hadn't heard ANYTHING about this meal at all, but that she'd gotten several phone calls about it this morning. She also laughed & said that guests normally knew about things long before the CM's did anyway. I told her about the DIS & that someone had reported reading on Disney's casting page about an open call for the "Sarge" character for a new meal & we've heard all sorts of rumors and how we'd all been hoping & praying & had thought that maybe today would be the day. She said, "Really? I haven't heard anything or read anything, but I guess that would explain all the calls I've received today." I said that, w/ all the princess meals, we were all really hoping for a new meal for boys. And, she said that she always tells people about Donald's Breakfastasauras & Chef Mickey's for boys. And I replied, "Well, yes, but a 'hero' meal w/ the Toy Story and/or Incredibles characters would be absolutely wonderful!" And she agreed and told me to just keep checking! And I'm like - That's what we've been doing! :teeth:

I was a little bit surprised that she hadn't heard about the Toy Story meal. I know some of the CM's who answer the phones at Disney Dining aren't familiar w/ Disney World, but she was - She even told me, when she found out we were staying at FW, that we would have to drive from one end of WDW to the other to get to Donald's Breakfastasauras & to allow plenty of time to do so.

Anyway, I so hope that this meal becomes a reality and not just rumor in time for our trip in June! pixiedust:

Subscribing!
I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one...I think Disney could definitely use more boy oriented character dinners.

(My son would completely flip over a Power Rangers meal) :)

A Power Rangers meal would be GREAT!!!! Even Bear in the Big Blue house would be cute, since they have the Breakfast w/ Bear show on now I'm surprised they haven't thought of this. But we'd be happy with the rumored Buzz meal too, anything boys will make him happy.

Okay, maybe I'm a little behind here, but what is the other new character meal besides the MGM/Toy Story/Hero meal?

I posted earlier on this page - but she was talking about the two new restaurants...the one in AK and DTD opening up.

I think that is a great idea! Maybe they are just worried that the demand won't be there for a boys meal.

WITH ALL THE PHONE CALLS ABOUT IT. I THINK THEY KNOW BY NOW THAT IT IS A LONG AWAITED THING!

The CM I talked to this morning said that she hadn't heard anything about a character meal at MGM, and that I was the 2nd one to ask this morning. She then said she often hears about things from guests before she hears it from Disney.

Funny how some CMs seem to know and others don't. SIGH
