We just heard more details and got a peek at the menus for the all-new La Hacienda de San Angel and the adjacent La Cantina de San Angel. La Cantina gets a facelift and stays!

The new 250-seat La Hacienda will only be open for dinner and expands the South-of-the Border offerings. The La Cantina opens daily at 11 a.m. with 150 outdoor seats.

The new La Cantina menu will initially offer chicken and beef tacos on fresh handmade corn tortillas, nachos, a cheese empanada, guacamole and chips and churros.

La Hacienda will open daily at 4 p.m. and the initial menu will feature starters like queso fundido (warm cheese with poblano pepper and chorizo); a taco trio with rib eye, roasted chicken and pork; and traditional black bean soup. Entrées include a mixed grill for two with flank steak, chicken, chorizo and vegetables (a seafood version features grouper, shrimp and scallops); roasted shrimp in pepper garlic broth; flank steak with spring onions, refried beans and cactus leaves; and grilled red snapper with roasted corn and cactus leaves. Dessert? Chocolate churros, sweet tamales and fruit empanadas.

Mmmmm sounds like a good menu for both places! I wonder if they will take the DP. If they participate in the CP dining package, I might opt for that over Le Cellier as I think it will be more popular with the non-steak eaters in my group.

And, it might be easier to get an ADR there;)

As long as there is somewhere for nachos and tacos I am happy. :) Now please, please let them be able to do me a vegetarian taco .....

Thanks for posting this! I posted a "confused about Mexico restaurants" thread this morning! This answers all my questions EXCEPT when it will open...I guess time will tell. :hourglass

Supposed to open sometime in September but there is no official opening date yet.

You're welcome (and I hope you get to stay onsite:)).

Thanks for posting! I just added La Hacienda de San Angel to our upcoming December trip.

Do I understand right that these restaurants / counter service will be there in addition to San Angel Inn? Just made an ADR for San Angel Inn.

I'm wondering this, too. I'm trying to plan our ADR's for our December trip.
Yes, this location is in addition to the existing San Angel Inn.

For reference, the Hacienda/Cantina is located where the Cantina used to be, across the "Street" from the main building in Mexico. This/These (I guess we'll figure out if we should refer to it as one or two sometime soon :p) should have no effect on the existing San Angel Inn.

That seems like a bit of overkill doesn't it? 3 dining establishments at the Mexico Pavillion?

I was hoping this would replace San Angel Inn. I have always found the food there to be subpar. The only reason we every dine there is for the ambience.

My guess would be that eventually one of them has to go away. I can't imagine there is that much demand.

I was wondering about this also, and especially if that one will still be open for lunch. There are few enough TS resturaunts available for lunch.

Thanks for the info, looks very promising! It was time for a change.

France and Japan each have 2 TS restaurants. Both also have a CS. Britain has 3 dining establishments if you count the pub. Italy will soon have two TS restaurants also. China has 2 dining establishments and a drink/snack kiosk. With the current popularity of Disney restaurants, especially in the World Showcase, I don't think it's out of line for a pavilion to have three dining establishments.

Mexico will actually have four - San Angel Inn, Hacienda, Cantina, and La Cava del Tequila (which serves food)

No plans to close San Angel Inn have been referred to at all by Disney. Hacienda will not be open for lunch, so I don't see it replacing SAI.

If Hacienda has good Illuminations views it will be more difficult to get a reservation there after 7 PM than it will be to get Le Cellier.

And at France, if you count Boulangerie Pastrie (you can get sandwiches and quich there) there are a total of 3 dining places.

So Is Hacenda not going to be a CS place for lunch?
